        About Search Results

YP - The Real Yellow PagesSM - helps you find the right local businesses to meet your specific needs. Search results are sorted by a combination of factors to give you a set of choices in response to your search criteria. These factors are similar to those you might use to determine which business to select from a local Yellow Pages directory, including proximity to where you are searching, expertise in the specific services or products you need, and comprehensive business information to help evaluate a business's suitability for you. “Preferred” listings, or those with featured website buttons, indicate YP advertisers who directly provide information about their businesses to help consumers make more informed buying decisions. YP advertisers receive higher placement in the default ordering of search results and may appear in sponsored listings on the top, side, or bottom of the search results page.

          Tips & Advice

          What is a plant guarantee?

A plant guarantee covers the buyer that if a plant doesn’t survive the guaranteed amount of time (usually one year, but sometimes up to 5), the plant will be replaced. This does not cover annuals, which have a life cycle of only 1 year.

How often should grass lawns be watered?

How often to water a grass lawn depends on the climate, the type of soil that surrounds your property, and how deep the root system of your grass grows. A general rule for watering is: every day during summer in warm climates. This rule can be modified if lawns are older, or the climate cooler. For mature well-rooted lawns, deeper but less-frequent waterings are recommended as being healthier than daily 15-minute rinses.

How often should fruit trees be watered?

Fruit trees should be watered different frequency of times depending when they were planted. Younger trees, up to the second growing season, should be watered twice a week. Make sure to give up to 1 full gallon of water weekly to newly planted trees during their growing season, and more when it’s gaining  eaves. Once the tree reaches mature fruit-bearing stage, waterings can be cut back, as the roots are sunk and can find ground water.

What is the best time of year to plant fruit trees?

The question of when to plant fruit trees really depends on climate. The general rules are: You should not plant fruit trees when the ground is frozen, when the peak daytime temperature is more than 90 degrees Fahrenheit, or when the forecast shows extreme weather (i.e. a tornado warning). Aside from those rules, the suggested planting times are either fall (which most people recommend) or spring (for bare-root trees).

What is the best way to measure soil pH levels?

There are many kits sold on the market that measure soil pH levels. Dyes, test strips, and electronic pH meters are all formulated to assist the home gardener. Many people choose to simply shake up soil and distilled water, and then measure the pH with a hand-held meter However, some people consider this method not very useful, and suggest using a lab for greater accuracy.

How much sun do indoor plants need?

Indoor plants don’t necessarily need any sun. They may prefer it, but grow lights can be used as a substitute. If they want sun, it’s usually partial with plenty of shade. Figuring out the amount of sunlight is often as simple as finding the best location for direct sunlight and placing the plant there, near a window.

          What is a greenhouse?

A greenhouse, which is also known as a hothouse, is a transparent closed-in structure that collects light and converts it to solar energy. Light comes in the windows and roof panes, is captured and converted to energy. Inside the greenhouse is much warmer than outside, and this creates an environment where plants can grow even when the outdoor conditions are not viable. Greenhouses are always warmer inside than outside, whether made of glass or other glass-like material.

Do garden centers provide delivery services?

Yes, most garden centers provide delivery service, although many have a minimum purchase amount for free delivery. Also, you need to check the delivery area to make sure your address is within the accepted range.

          What are annual plants?

Annual plants complete their full life cycle in one year. They flourish in one growing season before death, so replanting is an annual process. Annuals bloom quite a long time, and must then be replanted. Broccoli, beans and zinnia are all annual plants.

          What are perennial plants?

Perennial plants are plants that live for more than two years in their natural habitat. They might take more than two years to achieve maturity. Perennials are a stalwart in gardens because while the above-ground part of the plant may die in the winter, the root system stays alive and the plant is reborn in spring.
