I am a 31-year-old father of two who does not often spend nights out on the town (maybe once every two months). I happened to plan to go out tonight (9/23/17) to Sharkey's in Radford, VA. As a responsible adult, I will not drive if I have drank more than one alcoholic beverage and one of my concerns is securing a safe ride home. My children will be sleeping at the time I plan on leaving Sharkey's (they go to sleep at 7:00pm), so having my spouse pick me up is not an option. Therefore, I called Blacksburg Taxi to inquire about scheduling a ride from Sharkey's in Radford to my home in Radford. First, when the guy answered, he did not answer the phone in the welcoming way. When I explained what services I would like and informed him that I realized that it would be a short trip for them and would be willing to pay extra for their trip from Blacksburg, he told me that he would only pickup in Radford if they were transporting outside Radford. When I repeated my offer to pay extra, he became rude and dismissive. He informed me that the reason they would not provide this service is because Radford has a bus system. When I told him that I did not believe that the bus system runs that late, he was not helpful and essentially told me that there were no transportation services available to me. This guy was very rude and unhelpful. I was willing to pay extra for the service and would have tipped the driver well for their trouble. This is a perfect example why people prefer to use services such as Uber and Lyft. The customer service is just much better.
