COOL PLACE OFF HIGHLAND

I went to Rojo for the first time a few weeks ago and was pleasantly pleased by the look of the place and its customers. The look was physically small, big patio, and self service oriented. The customers were a mix of young/old professionals and bohemian local type characters with their dogs.
I went there with my girl just wanting a couple of burritos and a couple of beers. Got it- but it cost over $30??? and self serve to top it off.! The least expensive beer was on tap and of all things PABST BLUE RIBBON???? cheap beer for import bottled price? Needless to say the lack of service (self serve), the blan burritto(absolutely nothing special to write about that cost like$6-$8???) and the overpriced beer didnt do anything for me. The best part of Rojos is the people that in these days and times can afford to go there, the atmosphere, view, and laidback attitude. Many of my friends like to go there for those reasons only. Not so much for whats served there. Like Ive always said, ""its not WHERE you go, but WHO you go there with that makes the biggest difference.""
Would I suggest to anyone go there??? Probably not so much. I would tell them about Courtyard 280 oyster bar and grill happy hour, music, way better prices, also nice similar type of people BUT if they didnt want to drive to that side of town I would say YES GO TO ROJO. Stop by Taco Bell first if you want a burritto and save yourself $7 for basically the same thing.Because you will need it to pay for the overpriced beer. Oh yea, and pound a couple of beers at home too. Ridiculous. Ive lived on worldclass resort islands, traveled the world a couple of times but live in Bham. Rojos is one of the best places to chill out under nice trees, good upscale area, and relax with good people around you. That part would maybe impress out of towners as a cool locals hangout but not so much the burritto.I think I know why the prices are so crazy for what you get. My opinion is that it WEEDS OUT THE UNDESIRABLES. I will still go there from time to time but first will follow my own advice.
