May experience was great. Dr. Albright was excellent and all services were good.However, this review is not about my visit but for a friend to whom I recommended VA and Abright. Twice now the scheduling department has screwed up her appointment. Made over the phone by my friend, giving all info the was requested, after waiting for weeks when the appointment time came. VA didn't show it. My friend made another again, after waiting for weeks, she called the day before and the said it was cancelled. VA never bothered to call or contact her. Highly disappointed in their office staff and communication. They need a new office manager or need to be more organized than a elementary school class. The doctors are great, the scheduling staff leaves a lot to be desired at this point.

Appointment was at 3:30. Was not called back until 4:40. They made sure to collect extra money for a refraction fee, despite the fact that my insurance pays for that. And they let me walk out of there WITHOUT A COPY OF MY EYEGLASS PRESCRIPTION! They don't seem to keep common contact lenses in stock for trial, so I get to make extra trips. What a terrible experience!

DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR!! THEY ARE GREEDY AND/OR UNAWARE OF THE FEDERAL REGULATIONS. I went to Dr. Blackburn for the first time a year ago for a contact lens prescription renewal and glasses. He was so nice and thorough that I took my son to him one month later. My glasses were really pricey but I liked them. We also bought two boxes of contacts for my son and several boxes for me because they were only a bit more expensive than the online retailer and I like to support local businesses when I can. BUT when I called to order more contacts for myself the office manager told me that she could not give me a box of 6 contacts because my prescription was due to expire in 5 weeks!!! I was floored. She explained that she would be supplying me with a 3 month supply of contact lenses for a prescription that would expire in half that time. No other doctor has done this in all my years of buying contacts. By that reasoning, I could get a prescription today, buy enough contacts for the year at the same visit, and my brand new prescription would be worthless because they would not sell me any more contacts. UNBELIEVABLE!!She offered to give me a free pair to hold me until the next available exam four weeks away. I asked her to please send a copy of my prescription which she did. I turned right around and ordered a 9 month supply of contacts online for considerably cheaper and with no hassle.I looked up the FTC and FDA regulations for contact lens prescription renewals and the regulation states:- A contact lens prescription expires two years from the date of the exam. - A doctor can choose to shorten the expiration date to one year, and all in Alabama do (for obvious reasons… $$).- A doctor can shorten the expiration date of a prescription to less than one year, but there must be a medically sound reason for this, and it must be noted in the patient's file and the expiration date printed on the prescription. There was no such medical limitation explained to me by the doctor or noted on my prescription, and the expiration date clearly printed was one year from the exam. I can only assume that the rules of Dr. Blackburn’s office are created by greed or because they are ignorant of the regulations. Either way, I will NEVER GO BACK TO HIS OFFICE. What other regulations are they bending to feed their greed? Moreover, I will post this anywhere I can find and repeat the story to anyone who will listen.

No I do not recommend Target Optical in Trussville. I went there for a contact lens exam and for some new glasses. The first time i went there the service was great. Everyone was so nice and the exam didn't take long. The doctor gave me samples of some contact lens to try and she told me to come back in a week for a followup. I paid for my exam and glasses that day.I went there today and the service was terrible. My appointment was at 11:00am; I arrived at 10:50am. I was on time.I signed in and told the lady at the desk i was there for my 11:00am appointment. A man arrived behind me at 10:55am. His appointment was at 10:30am he arrived late. The doctor came out and put him ahead of me and took him back and did his exam. It was 11:35am when the doctor took me back to do my followup. She dilated my eyes and told me to go back in the waiting room for about 15 mins. I sat there for about 25 minutes. Then she came back out and took me to the exam room and finished my exam. The doctor didn't even give me shades to keep the sunlight from hurting my eyes. I had to come back to the Target optical and ask for them cause the light hurted my eyes so bad. I left at 12:20 pm. From 10:50am to 12:20pm I was waiting the majority of the time cause the doctor kept putting people in front of me. The attitude of the doctor had changed she was not as friendly and nice as she was the first time I went.Also the staff there wasn't as friendly as they were the first time I went. I will not be going there ever again. If someone ask me about Target Optical in Trussville I will tell them to not go there.
