I mean, I get the whole 1970's Chinese restaurant thing, the Americanized ""Chinese"" dishes like chop suey, with celebrity pictures on the wall, and the nostalgia and so on. I get it and love it. But Shanghai Grill? Yikes.
When you walk into this restaurant, you're greeted with a musty odor like an old carpet. Awful.
My booth seat had a gash in the leather covering. The drinking water which is normally served right from the LA tap was actually filtered, which was a pleasant surprise. . This raised my hopes, later dashed.
Ribs - stale tasting, obviously frozen, chewy, not meaty, moist or succulent. Awful.
Shrimp Ball - Weird crispy/chewy exterior, and stale tasting shrimp. Inedible.
White Rice - Fine
Broccoli Beef - Delicious. Moist meat, traditional sauce, broccoli perfectly sauteed. What you'd expect.
$Two appetizers, two entrees, two iced teas, $50. Gawg! WHHHHAAAATTT? I can go to the corner Chinese food place at get this for half the price. Just creepy and weird.

I've never been to the restaurant, but my husband and I order take-out from this place about 3 times a month. It's the most delicious Chinese I've had on this coast (I'm from NYC), delivery is always fast, the food arrives hot and they always get the order right. Also, the people who answer the phones are easy to talk to and never have a problem taking your order or credit card info correctly. I've never had a bad experience and recommend the sliced beef pepper steak, steamed pork dumplings, and cashew nuts chicken. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.
