Dr. Barry Rosenbloom received his Bachelor of Arts, Cum Laude, from the City University of New York, Hunter College, and his Medical Degree, Summa Cum Laude, from State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center. He served his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Harbor General /UCLA Medical Center, where he subsequently completed a fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology. Radiology
Radiological exams are an essential tool for the monitoring of disease status in Gaucher patients, providing insight into the degree of organ and bony involvement. Ideally, radiological exams should be performed at qualified imaging centers that regularly evaluate Gaucher patients and staff radiologists who are familiar with Gaucher disease and its presentation.
X-Rays

Joint Replacement
Bone and joint pain are also common symptoms of Gaucher disease. The pain is often generalized, likely caused by an inflammatory response to the presence of Gaucher cells, but may also be very intense and localized. This severe bone pain – referred to as a “bone crisis” – occurs when the Gaucher cells accumulate to such a degree that normal blood flow is disrupted, thereby cutting off the oxygen supply. (A “heart attack of the bone.”) Long-term restriction of blood flow may result in necrosis (cell death) of the bone, leading to permanent bone damage, immobility, and the need for joint replacement surgery. Treatment with enzyme replacement therapy may help to reduce, or even eliminate, episodes of bone pain and bone crises.

Manifestations of GD including marrow infiltration, osteopenia, avascular necrosis, infarction, lyitic lesions, Erlenmeyer Flask Deformity, new fractures and an overall bone assessment.
