For my birthday, my wife and kids got me a bike helmet here. Only it didn't fit and wasn't ranked as one of the safer, better ventilated helmets. So I went to return it. When my wife bought it, a rep at the store said if it'd be no problem to return it.

When I got there, neither of the two guys working at the store said knew how to process a return. So they asked me to come back. Roundtrip, it was 30 minutes out of my day to get there, so I asked them to come up with another solution. After some thought, one of them realized he could call another Big Wheel Bike and have a rep there walk him through the process. Great! He did, but still wasn't able to help me as the rep on the other end only knew how to process a store credit--not a refund, which is what I wanted.

So the rep suggested I leave the helmet and receipt there, with my contact info. Once his manager was back, he could process the return without me there and they'd call me.

I waited two days, no call back.

I followed up and was curtly told by the manager that the owner's policy was to only do store credit. I explained it was a gift, didn't fit, and wasn't one of the safer bike helmets out there so I wanted a refund. He refused. Now I guess I have to spend another 30 minutes going down there to get a store credit for a shop that doesn't sell anything I want.

I understand the value of supporting small local businesses. But when they're this much of a hassle, it's just easier to use Amazon or another online retailer (which is what I did).

incompetent customer?

i also ordered a breezer uptown 8 in july from big wheel in bethesda and it came in in 7 day,no hassles, proffesionally assembled, all in all a perfectly easy buy for me.

maybe they just didn't like your pushy attitude or something to the likes of.
