My husband and I adopted Cupcake 4 years ago from a local rescue. About a month after we got her, she had a knot show up on her chest. We made the appointment and upon showing up the staff was so nice and friendly. We were welcomed with open arms and they already knew her because the rescue takes their animals here too. The staff was helpful, nice, educated on processes and breeds. Cupcake, who has been stand offish and timid with strangers, was Soooo excited to be at the Vet. That was a change ha ha. The doctor came in, talked us through what they were doing, took the sample and told us it needed to be taken off. We told them we could not pay for the surgery and the staff called the rescue and they volunteered to pay for the surgery so all we had to pay for was the visit, the test and the pathology which was much less than the surgery. This Vet office truly cares about not just your pet but your pocketbook. They are absolutely amazing. We will be moving out of the area soon and will be over an hour away, but we will make the drive for the quality of care. Keep up the great work and I don't know how anyone would take their pet anywhere else!!!!!

Best, Most Reasonably priced vet in the area

I brought my dog Buster, who had been throwing up for days, to The Pet Hospital in Bessemer City because they were recommended to me by a friend. She said they were really good and much cheaper than vet offices in Charlotte - which is where my long term vet office is located. Dr. John LaStella said he had an obstruction in his abdomen that would require surgery to remove since he hadn't been able to pass it yet. I told him that I didn't have much money right from the start and he totally worked with me on it. It was Friday when I brought him in and he kept the dog all weekend. By Monday morning, Buster was back to his old self. Dr. John asked me to bring him back in for a re-check and didn't even charge me for it. I won't be taking my animals anywhere else again.

Reviewer Tammy Stephens has hit every major review site with her lousy review and has referred to my personal review in her comments. I admit that I am purposely trying to undo her bad press.

Tammy, I've read your diatribe and it looks like your biggest problem is you. My dog didn't require round the clock care which is why it stayed all weekend. You let 7 puppies die before taking the last one in? You obviously can read, so did you not notice the hours of operation posted on the door? And do you honestly expect a veterinarion to stay in business by doing work for free? From what I see in your review, the doctor checked your animal like you asked (office visit charge at least), and prepped your animal so that you could take it to emergency - which you most assuredly have never been to before because there is no way you would have gotten off as cheap as $95.

Time to take responsibility, chic. You killed your puppy by waiting and thinking that prayer would save it. You blame the doctor for its demise and you probably should not have any more pets. You wouldn't have allowed a child to wait so long before seeking medical treatment.

I have never written a review ...

I have never written a review for services, I just don't go back. However, after reading some of the comments about The Pet Hospital, PA, I feel I have to put in my experiences. I have 5 dogs, 2 cats, and watch other foster for the HS in Charlotte...they see me a lot! I live in Ballantyne and have always paid top dollar for my pet care. My dental hygienist recommended the Pet Hospital because the price was less than half in some cases. I agree, the receptionist is functional and not there to make me feel good. The lobby is always full and often chaotic, but they have taken good care of my animals. So, either change your priorities, or pay more for less.
Great job Pet Hospital, so glad you are there for me and my loved ones.

I have been taking my boxers to Dr. John for over almost 17 yrs now. When I first started with him he said he had never seen boxers as old as mine were. But he found out they were very much loved at home.He is now seeing my 2 and 1/2 yr old rescue Meeko that cameto me with PTSD,bad Anxiety. But she does so good in the office with him it's unbelievable.Men is what she is scared of most. But she is calm with him.The staff there are great friendly people and the prices you can't beat anywhere. And boxers have a lot of health problems.I would tell anyone to take their dog or cat to him. This is Meeko 5 yrs, then Bailey 13,Ginger Bell 14 at the Rainbow Bridge.

Cheap Vet/ Cheap service!!

If you care about your pets rethink the office. It is very unorganized and the front desk staff is rude. I had all three of my pets there but after the last incident we are done!!!!
Gaston Vet is a little more but your pets are in good hands!

We got there early to drop off our puppy to get fixed. We watched as the employees entered the building and not one seemed like they even wanted to be there! We get in to check him in and not once paid him any attention. They seemed very disorganized! They told us they would give us a call when he was in recovery and that would be around 3 to 4. We never got a call. It got to be 430 and I called and they said he was ready ! We get there and he is whining not one gave him attention once in recovery! We never met the dr or talked to anyone about his surgery! The experience i received as a first time customer was short from friendly and welcoming! This was the first and last time I take him their ...if you want people to come. Back then treat the animals and their owners with care! Not one was smiling or happy they we're their! When you call the receptionist is far from thrilled to be at her job. You can tell it's a burden to answer the phone but then again the whole staff was that way... I will be going somewhere pets aren't another Customer but part of their family ... I am very dissatisfied with this place and was very very upset!

The Pet Hospital of Bessemer City is, by far, the best vet office I have ever been to. The prices are excellent, the care is excellent, and the staff take the time to make sure that you are well-informed and that you have all the options and information available for your pet's care. The waiting room is nearly always crowded and it can take a while to get a standard appointment, but you never feel rushed or like you are a number. I have recommended this place to several friends, and they too have been thrilled! Dr. John LaStella and his staff are godsends, no other way to put it!
