Primary Care
If you have been referred to us by your primary care physician, we send letters to your doctor to let them know what treatments we recommend and what procedures are performed. He or she will receive a copy of your endoscopy results.
Colonoscopy
When having a colonoscopy, it requires that you cleanse your colon in order for the doctor to have a clear view. Typically, this requires a clear liquid diet the day before the exam and a medication to take the evening before your examination. You will receive written instructions for this. If there are any questions, please call our office.
Electrocardiogram
You will have a preparation to take the night before the exam to clean out the small intestines. If you are having any difficulties with this preparation, call our office. On the morning of your test, you will come to our office where we will attach leads (similar to an EKG) onto your abdomen. These leads are then attached to a data recorder that will collect all the images from the pill camera. Once hooked up and ready to go, we have you swallow a pill that will take two pictures a second for about eight hours.

Internal Medicine
Gastroenterology is a subspecialty of internal medicine. Gastroenterologists must first complete seven or more years of medical school and postgraduate training in order to be Board Certified in Internal Medicine. Then, for another two or three years, Gastroenterologists study conditions specific to the GI tract.
Gastroenterology
Gastroenterology is the study of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract of the body. A gastroenterologist diagnoses and treats diseases of the digestive organs, including the stomach, esophagus, intestines, pancreas, liver and gallbladder. This specialist treats conditions such as abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, ulcers, diarrhea, cancer in the GI tract, and jaundice. A gastroenterologist also performs complex diagnostic procedures, including the use of endoscopes to see and treat internal organs.
Colon Cancer
It can detect inflammation of tissue, ulcers, and abormal growths, such as polyps. Colonoscopies are commonly done during routine screening for colon cancer prevention.
Endoscopy
The upper endoscopy is done at the hospital but is an outpatient procedure. You will be given sedation for this exam, so you will need a family member or friend to drive you home.

Ulcer
Once sedated, Dr. Rosenbaum will insert a small camera attached to a thin, flexible tube into the mouth and down the esophagus toward the stomach. This allows him to visualize the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum (first portion of the small intestines). If he sees any abnormalities, such as an ulcer or inflammation, he can take biopsies through the scope with the aid of special instruments.
