I reserved a van 3 months in advance. Upon landing, we proceeded to stand in line for 73 minutes at the Enterprise counter. None of the other rental agents in the airport had more than 2 or 3 in line at a time, I was #22 at Enterprise. Talking to others in the line, everyone had reservations. Once we signed all our paperwork, we were informed that the vehicle was on site but not yet cleaned. We would be called up in the order we arrived to get our keys. After another hour, we were finally on our way. We missed the first function of our vacation due to the 2 1/2 hour ordeal of picking up our reserved vehicle! We witnessed several people in line give up and go to other vendors.
I will say that the young man working the counter on August 24 was doing a fantastic job in a terrible environment. He was keeping his professional disposition while getting ripped apart by repeatedly for cars not being ready.
We've used many rental car companies including some of the "cheaper" known ones, such as Dollar. Enterprise at BZN gave us an "upgrade" from a full size car, only to find out it was a very small SUV that had trouble navigating the mountains. The engine revved loudly every time we had to go up, and the second day of our trip, the check engine light came on. The rental had almost 30,000 miles on it, so they obviously don't always provide the newest models. We were very glad we made it through our trip without a trip to the service station. As far as service, the guy made us walk to very end of the lot to get the car and told us to inspect it closely as we WOULD be charged for any marks on the car upon return. We found a big paint chip, so had to walk all the way back and stand in line again to report it, only to be told, "Oh yeah, we knew that was there." They also warned us that it was hail season and we would be responsible for any hail damage. We were glad it didn't rain!
I can see by reading the other reviews that it's hit and miss at this particular location. It's a smaller airport. I understand that they're not going to schedule legions of employees in case there's a line of customers waiting. In my case, my vehicle was ready, the employee at the counter was very professional and courteous, and I was out the door. There was an error in my favor--no cars available in the class I reserved, so they bumped me up to a better car at the same price. I won't complain about that. Will definitely rent again the next time I'm in Bozeman.
