One star because it cannot go lower. They use predatory pricing to gouge after bidding low.

The initial bid for setting up a dedicated circuit for my microwave was $5-600 with 4 hours of work.

The job completed in 2.5 hours. Nearly half the time they estimated. Yet the bill came in over $800.

When i asked for an explanation, they claimed that electricians are billing at $150/hour. Be aware that the average for an electrician's hourly is $45/hour and that SURGEONS make $180/hour.

When i called them to escalate the issue they continually feigned that i was being loud (i was not) and hung up on me.

I then stated i would see them in small claims and they said OK.

you WILL be over billed.

First time customer, asked Mike's to look at the electric wall heater at my mothers condo and give me advice on how to improve the heat by upgrading to a larger unit or fixing the one that is there. They discovered that the unit had a lower wattage element and upgraded it to a higher wattage element. They took care to look at what was there and recommend the right solution not the most expensive. Thanks for a job well done.

I purchased a house and as par...

I purchased a house and as part of the purchase agreement I asked for an electrical problem to be fixed. The garage was on the same circuit as the main living area and when something was plugged into the garage the circuit would trip. The seller contracted Mike's Electric to do the work. Mike's came to the house and did some work and said the problem was resolved. I moved into the house and plugged something into the garage. The circuit did not immediately trip, however a couple days later the kids turned on the lights on the main floor while something was plugged into the garage and the circuit tripped knocking out power to the main level of our house.

I called Mike's Electric and they were very nice and indicated that the wording on the original repair request said that the circuit in garage should be fixed to prevent the circuit from being tripped. The person on the phone said that he thought them coming back to fix it correctly should be free of charge to us since it was not fixed correctly the first time. I scheduled the appointment and had someone from Mike's come out.

The gentleman that came to our house and did the repairs was very nice and appears to have done a good job. He leaves without ever mentioning that the work would not be covered by the original request. We were happy and thought everything was fine for about a week and a half.

Then we receive the bill for $241 with a comment that says "Note: Due to similar nature of this call to the previous one we are not charging travel time on this invoice". I called the company to discuss why we received a bill when it was indicated before that we would not be getting one and no one mentioned that the work was not being covered by the previous work order. The person on the phone said we were responsible, because "they fixed what they thought the problem was the first time". This was the exact opposite of what the person on the phone said the first time that I called. He was not willing to discuss the fact that they did not fix it right to begin with and said we were responsible. His attitude was not friendly like the other people I talked to and he was not willing to consider that they did not do a good job the first time.

I personally will never use this company again and I suggest that no one else does. They did not fix things right the first time. They contradict each other on what will be covered. They do not communicate how much something will cost or whether you will be billed at all. Never once was I given a quote on the cost of the repairs. Had I known that they were not going to fix their mistake without charging us I would have chose a different electrician to fix it right and actually tell me how much it would be before performing the work.

Update 9/18/13: After much back and forth and a report to the BBB we have come to a satisfactory agreement with Mike's Electric.

We always appreciate customers taking time to review our performance, even when their comments are critical of our work. In this case, the original request came from the realtor handling the sale of the home. We were asked to investigate and repair issues with outlets in the garage. On our first visit we found and repaired several items that would have created the problems the realtor told us were occurring. We tested our work before leaving and all items worked as they should. However, since the house was vacant at the time we were unable to confirm how the circuit would perform under the new homeowner’s planned use of the outlets. It is important to note that the reviewer was not invoiced for this initial service call. We were unaware of any problems until 3 weeks passed when the new owner called and reported that a circuit breaker had tripped. During that conversation we told the owner that if our work, or material, had failed any repair work would be covered as warranty. However, when we made our second service call we found no problem with our original work and that the new owner had overloaded the circuit (something we could not have anticipated during our first call). Corrections were made to eliminate the problem and we absorbed the portion of labor that was related to having to return a second time, treating both visits as if they were a single trip. We believe that our invoicing was fair and proper in both cases but regret that we were unable to come to a satisfactory resolution with the reviewer.

This summer we purchased a home where a 200 amp breaker box was installed with a 60 amp service meter. I was very pleased by the solution proposed by Mike's and the bid price was reasonable. PP&L is the service provider. Their rep wanted the service meter on the opposite side of the house than Mike's proposed because of tree limbs...no contact with us or Mike's about just removing the limbs. Doing this would have been a wiring nightmare. Doug from Mike's come promptly to help us deal with the difficult PP&L rep...all was resolved as we wanted. Mike's was very timely in completing all steps of the project and worked their schedule around my daughter-in-laws work schedule for access. The final cost came in on target. I love projects where I feel taken care of by the professional.

Made an appointment with Mike's Electric for a Friday afternoon for a breaker issue with our refrigerator. They called back the same day with an opening. They were out that day and solved the issue at a very reasonable cost. Their techs, Brian & Brad, were friendly, knowledgeable and wasted no time. Definitely will call Mike's Electric with any future electrical need

In the 40+ years I've lived in this house, Mike's Electric is the only electrical company I've ever had do any work, and it's been more than a few times. Big jobs and small jobs. They are always prompt and efficient and the fellows are very nice and professional. This time, it was for replacement of a bathroom fan and switches to go with it. Darrell and Lall came and got the job done, while always keeping me informed of what they were doing. I would never hesitate to call them. Thank, guys! All is working great!

My wife wasn't ok with no power in the bathroom so I called Mikes Electric to help me out. They worked with me on the phone a few times trying to get it fixed with out a service call. Eventually after all the trouble shooting Don came out and fixed the problem and did some other spur of the moment wiring.

Great people all around. Don is knows his stuff and does quick and correct work.

Will recommend Mike's without reservation and for sure call them in the future.

Mike's Electric just replaced my old Federal Pacific breaker panel and they did a great job. This was the third or fourth time Mike's has done work for me and the two electricians who did the work were on time, had the power back on in less time than expected and were neat and cleaned up everything before they left. Tom and Lall were enjoyable to have around that day and I felt the utmost confidence in their work. I would recommend Mike's Electric without hesitation and they will be my choice the next time I have any electrical work done. Thanks, guys!

Mike's Electric was recommended by a realtor friend.....I called on the off chance that someone could come by that day and replace a dryer electrical outlet in order for my new washer/dryer to be delivered sooner than later.. I am not sure how I got so lucky but they did make it several hours later, efficiently replaced and moved the outlet, cleaned up after themselves, shook hands, kept it to an hour labor charge and were out the door! They will definitely be my first call if I need an electrician in the future. Thank you!

Don showed up on time and was customer focused, friendly, efficient and creative. Costs were on point and as discussed.

They also vacuumed and cleaned up after themselves as if they were the property owner.

A great experience for us. We will use Mikes as our Electrician of choice and cannot imagine a better choice for anyone needing electrical work.

Again, we found Don exceptional and appreciated his very positive approach to the job.

I called early on a Monday morning because our outlets were not working like they should. Tom and Alex came a few hours later like I was told they would when I called. Tom immediately found our issue and replaced what needed to be done very efficiently. Then I brought up another issue and he found that a previously installed fixture (not by Miles), was not put in correctly and fixed the wiring. Really appreciated the great workmanship and would definitely recommend Mikes to my friends and family, From my first telephone call to the end of our service was a very pleasant experience.

Thanks Mikes Electric for making our first experience with your company a good one:)

Mike's Electric is an excellent company and contractor. We were highly impressed with their friendliness, professionalism, and dedication to satisfying their customers. They have a well earned reputation, and they are committed to maintaining it through their efforts to meeting the needs of the people they serve. We have the highest regard for their owner, Darrel, who is understandably proud of his company and his employees. He is absolutely wonderful to work with, and very personable. I felt as if we earned a new friend as we worked together to address our home improvement needs. He clearly strives to ensure that his customers are happy with the results, and he successfully earned our trust and confidence. What more can you ask of any business or contractor!

We admired the great work ethics of their work crew, Aaron and Lall. They are exceptionally hardworking and impressive individuals who make the most of every minute they are on site. They are very effective and highly efficient in their work, and we appreciated how they took time to explain the quality work they were doing, and helped us to make good decisions. They are very friendly and extremely caring about their work and their customers. They take pride in their job, which was clearly demonstrated through their workmanship and productivity. We would welcome them back anytime!

Finally, we wish to acknowledge Doug, the company representative that we originally spoke to on the phone when we were inquiring about their services. Again, you will not fine a more friendly person. Doug shared quality time with us to help us understand the type of work that they could perform and provided us with accurate information regarding costs and time. He is very patience and willing to educate his customers, which is something I value greatly from a contractor.

We are convinced that Mike's Electric is among the best in the industry. I can best describe them as professional, very responsive, and caring about their work and customer satisfaction. We look forward to working with them again soon, and will recommend them to our friends and others. They are a terrific group of folks!

While the actual electrician did a good job, Mike's Electric came in way over budget from what we were quoted. There was a general lack of communication about the rising costs and what services were covered under the different invoices. We would have liked to have been consulted when the costs exceeded what was quoted to us by Mike's. Also, Mike's was very dismissive when addressing our cost concerns and demanded payment before things were resolved. All-in-all, they are overpriced (ending up being 250% more than the rest of the contractors used on the job) and need to be heavily managed to stay within a budget. I would not use them again.

We regret any miscommunication that causes frustration or dissatisfaction with our work. In this case, we had previously completed the first phase of work for them in December 2010, 18 months previously. During those 18 months, there was no communication about unhappiness or unfair billing. In fact, they called again in April 2012 and asked us to come out and complete additional work for them. Once our electicians arrived, they changed the scope of the work to be more extensive. This was not communicated to us when they placed the call for service. Our electricians advised them that additional costs would be involved, but were told to proceed as requested. We completed the work as requested and sent them our invoice. Only then did they tell us that we had committed to do future work "for free" when we finished the first phase. We do not make open ended committments like that. I personally talked to the wife when she called and she was very vague about where that concept had come from. She said we should talk to her husband and we placed a call to him. However, he never called back. Our invoice was overdue and we sent a letter asking them to either pay, or contact us, since we had never heard from the husband so we could resolve the matter. We did receive payment in full, which we appreciate, but would have very much liked to have resolved this matter in a phone conversation rather than finding out about the dissatisfaction with our work in an on-line review.

Here is what they did: Installed an electric heater in bedroom, and removed microwave outlet installed improperly. They sent in 2 guys, spent 2.25 hours. The labor charge is at $98/hour and the apprentice at $55/hour. So just the labor charge is $344.25.

Would Never Recommend

We hired Doug McCauley to do a time sensitive inspection for a house we were trying to buy. He came out on a Monday, nine days before we had to get all our repairs figured out with the seller. It cost $100 for the inspection, but would be worth it because if we bring them back to do the repairs they would put it toward the cost of the total repairs. Our agent called him on Tuesday and Wednesday to check on the status of the quote with no reply. We called him Wednesday to ask when we could expect it...even after explaining this was very time sensitive and that us purchasing the house was dependant on his quote and findings with the electrical in the house his reply was "There is no way he will get us a quote before the following MONDAY." Seven full days after the inspection? Apparently the $100 for his 20 minutes was what he was after. We don’t have enough time to get another inspector in and a report written up before we have to get our requests to the seller so our requests have to go in incomplete which will cost us money and probably stick us with the costs of the repairs if we buy the house.

I would never recommend this company if this is the way the entire company operates

This customer was under a tight timeline to complete their home purchase and we were initially advised by their real estate agent that we would need to provide our proposal within 9 days of the actual inspection. The customer called 2 days later asking that we expedite the proposal, which we ultimately did. It was an extensive proposal and relying on what we were originally told by their agent, believed we had more than enough time to complete within their original schedule. The final resolution to this situation was that the customer had our proposal 4 days from our initial inspection of their property - well within the timeframe originally provided by their real estate agent. We pride ourselves on the quality of service we provide and regret any inconvenience caused. Those interested in our capabilities should either check our website or go to www.angieslist.com.
