Get your favorite americanized chinese classics such as orange chicken, chicken with cashews, and shrimp in Black Bean sauce the way they were meant to be: Freshly prepared, expertly seasoned, and delicious! For nearly 40 years Pearl of the Orient has been churning out some of the best chinese food in Cleveland, and it's longevity is a testament to it's legacy as a community gem. A real Pearl!

Fabulous ingredients and cooking - great presentation. Good value, too - not overpriced. I would renovate their dining room, because it's like stepping back into the 1980's...

My sisters,brother,and I came back to Shaker Heights for a reunion and we wanted Chinese food for a change. We heard the Chinese restaurants in downtown Cleveland were much better than ones in the suburbs but it was too far to drive so we just stayed in Shaker Heights and dined at Pearl Of The Orient in the Van Aken Shopping Center. Our parents used to take us there a lot and I remember we used to have great times there. We were pleasantly surprised that the quality of food and service were as we remembered - great! Even after so many years. The menu changed to reflect more contemporary dishes. We had Chicken with Mango, Ma Po Tofu, Firecracker Beef, Crusted Prok with Hoisin Barbecue Sauce. My vegetarian brother asked if there was anything other than vegetables for vegetarians. The owner herself came over and told us she had in stock some vegetarian chicken for her mother's banquets and she would let us have some. She had the kitchen stir-fried the vegetarian chicken (made from tofu) with green beans in a garlic sauce. The dish was DELICIOUSLY! And it actually tasted like chicken. The portions were hugh and all our dinners were served on beautiful contemporary white platters. On our way out, I noticed they even bottled their own sauces. The packaging was colorful and eye catching. I did not have time to purchase any that evening but I understand they are available at Giant Eagle stores. The only criticism I have is their dessert selections were very limited, at least when we were there that evening. It's heartwarming to see a small business like Pearl still thrive and maintain their high standards after so many years.
