Saturday March 25 2017 1130 am PST J & L Automotive Repair – “7 STAR HONDA REPAIR SERVICE!” It is an ABSOLUTE PRIVILEDGE & HONOR to write this review. I have NO HESTITATIONS OR DOUBTS with sending consumers, who are in need of vehicle service & repair wor to J & L Automotive Repair. My 2003 (13 yrs 6 mths- 35,000 miles) Honda Civic LX needed LOTS of repairs: Flywheel, Clutch Kit, Front Left Strut Assembly, Battery, Power Steering Reservoir, Line Hose, & Cap, 4 Wheel Alignment, Manual Transmission Fluid, Engine Fluid Check & Refill, & Hood Lift Repair. This service & repair was “LABOR INTENSIVE” – especially the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd procedures. J & L needed close to 16.5 hours of labor to complete the entire requested repairs, service, & maintenance. Was the final bill a lot? Yes, it was. Most importantly, I truly feel, it was money WELL-SPENT @ J & L Automotive Repair. Warranty Statement: Parts & Labor are 12 month or 12,000, or whichever occur first. Communication Log: 1-Wed 3.22.17 302 pm Joe Update: 2- Th 3.23.17 Car Ready for PICK UP. Picked up car on Friday, 3/24/17 @ 10 am. Plus-I came equipped with a LED Flashlight to inspect all of the work completed. I appreciated Joe’s (Owner) attitude regarding my request to be shown all the work completed on R.O.#: 20336. It didn’t phase him -nor did my request upset him. Nice! He maintained a professional, courteous, & welcoming attitude towards me. When J & L’s Owner opened up the hood on my car, I was BLOWN AWAY! The engine looked like the day, I took it out of the showroom. I have never seen the engine look so clean, especially for a car this mature! After I saw all the: professional attention & detail, plus- 7 Star Customer Service,” I had to IMMEDIATELY TRUST THE INTEGRITY of J & L Automotive Repair. I did though continue my inspection of the work completed. Car disabled on 3/15/17, had to move from Honda SF to J&L for "lack of response" to texts & emails. Joe fixed it in 2 1/2 days. Took car in for a SMOG inspection initially three years ago and they were great (quick, honest, hardworking). I have since been back twice. The 2nd time i had an issue with my muffler. He told me up front that it wasn't his specialty, but said he would take a quick look to better understand the issue so he could refer me to the right place. He recommended me to visit a muffler specialist friend of his in Hayes Valley and didn't charge me for the quick evaluation. I was so thankful. The third time I brought my car in for another SMOG test, which he quickly jumped on and was finished within the hour. I told him that I was having an issue with my passenger side automatic window and asked him if he could look at it. Again, he warned me up front that it wasn't his specialty but said he would look at. He examined the problem and then made a few phone calls to other mechanics to see which of them had seen this sort of problem, and who had fixed it before. He found another shop who had experience fixing these sorts of problems and gave me their number and address. Again he never charged me for all of this additional work. Very honest and helpful. I highly recommend that if you have an issue with your car to stop by and talk to Jon before going anywhere else. He will be upfront and honest with you if he can't personally fix your car, but he will help get you to another honest mechanic here in the city...
I was floored by the excellent service that I received here. I've taken my car here for an oil change before, and they checked my tread, fluids and brakes for free, which was great and it's only 4 blocks away from where I work. So when my car started making a terrible clanking noise and stalling out, I went here for help. I knew that my 3rd cylinder was misfiring and the guy at O'Reilly's told me that I just needed to change the spark plug. The guy at the desk, who I'd seen before and was always very friendly, offered to take a closer look as that's not what it sounded like to him. He checked the compression of all 4 cylinders for me, and sure enough, something was seriously wrong with my car, which would require a total engine rebuild at least. Already distraught, I asked him how much that was, and he told me, very honestly that it would cost more than the car was worth (not exactly a Lexus that I drive...) instead of trying to charge me copious amounts of money to repair it. I, being completely at a loss for what to do and on the verge of tears, asked him what my next step should be. He gave me a number of options, and even let me keep the car there overnight, completely free of charge.
This facility gets an A for good old fashion customer service and showing genuine courtesy and kindness to me. I was visiting from Southern Calif on my way up to San Francisco to run a marathon when I got into a car accident. I was broadsided and the explorer I was in was not drivable. Without going into all the details suffice it to say that MBO service and care was outstanding. They stayed open late on a Friday evening to receive my towed explorer (even though the Ford dealer would NOT), they had an employee drive me to the airport during the Friday rush hour, wait for me to get a rental car, transfer all my belongings to the rental car and lead me safely back to where I was staying. They coordinated all the insurance issues, were in regular communication with me and when the car was ready, picked me up from the airport so that I could reclaim my restored car. VERY KIND PEOPLE - ALL OF THEM!
I have been there a couple of time when I needed repair on my car or just regular checkup. They have been very helpful and honest and you can't beat the price. This time we know we needed a major repair which would run about 900 and up. They gave us an option which would be a temporary repair called bypass and that would run around $40. It broke yesterday called them & took it in this morning and now got it back...I though I would be without a car for a while cuz of the expensive repair cost which I def. can't afford , but thanks to them I got it back in no time and be able to save up for the major repair. Another satisfied customer. The staff is honest and reasonable. If you want an honest mechanic come to Midas they have your guy. You'll be in and out in the same day.
I'm totally amazed by the fact that Pat's offers a free car-care class for women. I showed up for the 3-hour session one gray morning after hearing about it being voted "Best Mechanic" in the Bay Guardian's Best of the Bay 2006 poll. Over the spread of hummus and fruit and crackers and juice, I overheard Pat telling another participant (who appeared to be a regular customer) that he'd skipped his yoga class that morning to do the workshop. The other mechanics strolled in and, in a very laid-back, approachable, informative way, took our small group of women around the innards and underbelly of a car to show us everything from how an engine works to where exactly to pour in more windshield-wiper fluid.
I found MyMechanicSF because I drive by it every day and thought it would be great if I could find a reliable mechanic within walking distance to work. And, I did. I dropped the car off and asked them for an oil change and to check a vibration. They test drove the car and figured out what was wrong (a tire) and they also told me of another noise (that I didn't notice) and that I should take it to the dealer as it should be under warranty. Not only did they do a good job and quickly, they didn't try to sell me on any uncessary service. They were affordable and within walking distance to my work so I don't need anyone to drop me off or pick me up. I will be using them again.
I don't know a whole lot about cars, but when my van started dipping forward every time I braked, I figured something was wrong. After sliding into my steering wheel one time too many, I took my van to the 76 Station on 19th Ave. They told me that my shocks had gradually gone bad, and were even starting to mess with my tires. Joe was super professional and able to get me fixed up right away and now my van rides like a dream. Prior to taking a look on Yelp, I hadn't even realized the repair shop was there! I'd recommend them to my friends...but I think I may want to keep these guys to myself :)
I live around the corner from this station. I take all of my cars and my friends cars to this place for all the repairs I can not do (I am taking classes to become a mechanic). The guys here are really nice and take the time to explain what is wrong, what needs to be done, and even show me the problem! They are very honest and patient. I would recommend them to anyone. The prices are very good. My auto teacher said the labor for the jobs was very reasonable. I even learned a few things from the shop guys. I also like that they pump the really cheap gas for me. this place is #1
My car was smashed and it was not my fault. These guys helped me through a very stressful time. They really know their stuff and certainly know the business. My car was returned to me in better shape than it was before it was smashed! I would never known it was in an accident. I highly recommend this shop. It is the best BMW auto paint shop in SF.
