After watching my kids attend classes at Quest for 5 years, I decided to give it a try myself. It has been such a life changer for me. I've gained self confidence, self esteem; I've lost weight and gained strength. I am able to do things I never thought possible before walking through the dojo door. Best of all, I've made many new friends through karate - Quest is more than just a karate school, it's family!
I am 66 and started training at Quest 3 1/2 years ago. I had always wished I had tried Karate years ago. I figured that at the age of 62, I was too old to start. Master Nelson told me you are never too old to try something new. And you know, she was right. This has been one of the best experiences of my life. I know I do not have a choice about getting older, but what I don't want is to feel older. I want to stay active and Karate is enabling me to do that. I have gained self confidence, strength and self esteem. The instructors are professional and well trained. The dojo is clean, bright and large. I was worried that I would not fit in at my age. Well I was wrong. The students are all friendly and help each other succeed. Master Nelson should by very proud of the Dojo she has. Not only is she helping to train Black Belt students, but Black Belt Leaders for our community. Great place for young and the not so young.
I have two boys, 7 and 4 that couldn't be more different. My 7 year old started with the enrichment program after school and fell in love with Karate about a year and a half ago. In general he is very polite, and respectful. What we hoped he would get out of joining this school was confidence and to come out of his shell as he was quite shy. Man has he changed! He is becoming a leader rather than a follower, he embodies the principles of a black belt with pride ever day. And as for my youngest, he is the wild child! Crazy and all over the place. On his 4th birthday in speaking with Sensei Linda we wanted to see if he could handle going in to a Lil Dragon class (my work schedule wouldn't allow him to do the lil ninja class which is the 3-5 yr old class) Wanting something to help with structure and focus we were counting the days till he could sit through a class. He has been going for a few weeks now and we can't believe the amount of focus he is showing. Knowing he is younger and requires little reminders to keep on task at times the team of Sensei's do a wonderful job at making sure he and the others give their all for those 30 minute sessions. Two boys with different strengths and weakness' are getting exactly what they need out of this wonderful school. Also on a side note, they do an amazing job at making it feel like a second family. This is a great group of people, helping to produce future great groups of people!
Quest has given both of our girls so much. Our older daughter, now 6, has gained so much self confidence through both the little ninja and little dragon programs. She's not afraid to respectfully stand up for her self, but more importantly she is willing and able to stand up for her friends. She has learned that her words are powerful and when used they can help her handle anything. Our younger daughter, 3, loves going to her classes. She is learning to listen to other adults, since she's home with mommy everyday, and to wait respectfully for her turn. The ninja program for ages 3-5, is the perfect amount of movement and focus. After just a few classes you will see a difference in behavior. The instructor team is top notch and give so much of themselves to their students. We love that our girls have such wonderful role models. We hope to be a part of this amazing school for many years to come!
