In response to Chris B. Your dog was a pto that you had not bothered to get vaccinated. Dr. Knowles did indeed tell you the animal might not survive and recommended (multiple time) that you take the pup to the emergency clinc in Boone for around the clock care. You insisted that Dr. K care for your animal. I was an employee at the time and heard all this for myself. Don't blame your failure to properly care for your animal on someone else.
My dog came down with Parvo. Instead of suggesting to take him to a better facility for treatment. He suggested his treatment. It wasn't till the next day I was told that my dog only had a 50 50 chance of living. If I would have known that I would have taken my dog to someone else who had the capabilities to ensure a 100 percent recovery. He is money hungry. My dog died 12 hours after seeing him. He pretty much put a band aid on a broken bone. Why didn't he tell me that he was not equipped to handle such a case. I kept telling him I needed to take my dog to his primary doctor. But he insisted on his treatment. DO NOT GO TO THIS OFFICE. FOR YOUR DOGS SAKE. IT IS A HOLE IN THE WALL CLINIC. Everytime I mentioned going to another vet he kept saying he could treat my dog. R.I.P. Mitch. Love my dog. Just got through burying him. I would have paid what ever it costs to have had him fixed the right way but I trusted Brad Knowles. Dog Killer If you rea all the reviews they say how easy it was to get an appointment. That is because he has no patients. That is why he insisted on treating my dog. Money hungry.

We have used High Country Animal Clinic in Banner Elk, NC for over 5 years now. They are always kind and timely in making apts. when we need them. They take extra care of the animals they treat from little bunnies to big Great Pyrenees.
When our precious cat ""Stripey"" developed kidney failure they were so kind letting me take time to spend the last moments with her and even be right there with here when she left us. It was a very sad day for our family. That week we received a lovely kitty sympathy card saying How sad they were for us for the loss of our precious cat. It really did mean so much to us!!!
I would highly recommend Hight Country Animal Clinic

I have only been there twice, once with my dog & just recently with my cat. I was very impressed with Dr. Knowles & how he not only treated my pets, but also all the information he gave me on them. On my first visit I received a copy of his ""mission statement"" & had never seen one from a vets office before. I will continue to go to him with all of my pets when needed as I felt very comfortable with him & how the compassion he showed for my pets.

I had a cat choking emergency, and they saw me almost immediately, and checked my cat over for temperature, heartrate, and other vital signs once the choking was over. I thought that the service was very good, and the vet is very strong on suggesting preventative medicine.

Dr. Bradley Knowles my vet, I have had to pretty close to 5 years & I would recommend him to anybody who comes in any emergency, for my animals & he also was getting ready for a trip one time I called him, my dog cut his foot, he waited until I got there. I can't speak about how great they are. You'll never find a better veterinarian , Thank you

We have been taking our pets to High Country and Dr Knowles for 8 years now and could not be more pleased with the service there. Our last dog Jake ended up geting terminal cancer and we greatly appreciated how Dr Knowles cared for him during that time. Both Dr and staff would routinely call for updates or to give recommendations or report blood results - even on a Sunday and once when he was out in Colorado. Sadly, Jake passed away after a few months - but we have several healthy pets including a new puppy who loves to go to the vet! Also, we always get seen on the same day we call if there is a problem so we are grateful to them for taking care of us before things get worse.

We were very pleased with the work done at High Country Animal Clinic. Our dog had been uncomfortable to the point of not wanting to walk much for several months. He had been treated somewhere else with antibiotics for a urinary infection but only got better for a short time. Dr. Knowles found a huge stone in his bladder, and after surgery to remove it, he was like a different dog in a few days. We actually have the stone now to show to our amazed friends! We were also impressed that both the vet and other staff members continued to call and check on us long after he had been treated. And yes - the receptionist there is super-nice, but I disagree with a previous review that said Dr Knowles was uncaring. Completely different experience here.

Our experience - my husband and I - have always had positive experiences there. It is a place where I know Dr. Knowles will do WHATEVER it takes to save an animal - if the animals' owners okay an expense, Dr. Knowles will explore all options available to a family to treat an ailing animal.
Back in 2006, our dog Max had a bad reaction to flea medicine that also started a domino effect to have failing health. The first thing Dr. Knowles did was meet us in the middle of the night to treat our dog. He used all his expertise to care for our beloved ""son"" and kept watch over him all night. He hooked him up to IVs, gave him appropriate medicine, and allowed us follow-up visits for free. I can tell you that not just any vet would go to all those lengths. About a year later, when our dog experienced total organ failure, and there was nothing more we could do, Dr. Knowles lovingly sent us a sympathy card when our dog expired.
We do not live in the Banner Elk area anymore, but I can tell you that every vet we have ever seen since Dr. Knowles pales in comparison to how much he cares for animals - and that's saying something considering we have a large dog and four cats. He also became a family friend after all of our experiences with our own animals. I can assure you that if we lived in the area, we would bring ALL our animals to his clinic. Furthermore, we now live in Madison County and have invited Dr. Knowles to try to start a practice in Madison County.
