Trust is of number one importance when you are taking your finer pieces to a jeweler for repair. I can trust the Lakein family and would never go anywhere else. I've been using Lakein's for 45 years. And while I'm waiting to be served, I can browse and always find some unusual gem, high quality, unique but reasonable price. They have great prices on gold chains. Lakein's is where I go for stocking stuffers, too. I can't even number the watches I have brought in for cleaning, crystal replacement, and new batteries. It was the jewelry store all my in-laws used as well. I can't say enough good things about Lakein's.

Please AVOID this business!

My now-husband got my engagement ring from them and they provided him with a beautiful ring. It was a ring he custom ordered. He had some trouble with them as they are terrible at communication and even though he told them the date they needed to have the ring in by months in advance, he literally got the ring two days before his planned proposal.

Because of this issue with communication and meeting deadlines, we were concerned about ordering my wedding band through them. However, I could not find another jeweler who worked with the designer of my engagement ring and I wanted something to match it perfectly. We went to them MONTHS in advance of our wedding, ordered the matching wedding band and told them the date we needed it by - our wedding day. Lo and behold, the week before my wedding they say that the designer had the wrong date but they got it rush delivered and would make it in by the wedding. They said they paid extra money they were not going to charge us for this rush delivery. However, they couldn't provide us with any tracking information - if you have something rush delivered, especially something as valuable as a wedding ring with diamonds in it, there is a tracking number. That was a red flag to us.

And guess what? The day before my wedding we call them wondering what the status of the ring is and they said, "Oh, it wont be here in time." No apologies, no trying to make it right. Just an "oh well, deal with it" attitude. We still owed money on the ring - we had just put down a deposit and were supposed to pay the rest when the ring came in. My now-husband went into the store and asked for our deposit money back as they didn't deliver and we were going to get married without my wedding ring. We no longer wanted the ring from them whenever it would actually arrive, as they basically ruined a huge, symbolic, and important part of our wedding - the exchanging of rings. They refused and were incredibly rude!

I love supporting small local businesses, but not ones who are bad at what they do and then are rude when people are disappointed in the service.

After our honeymoon we ended up going to the Jared's in White Marsh to get a custom ring and they have been nothing but professional. Something Lakein's (especially the rude and nasty Marcia Lakein) should learn.

Rude and Unprofessional

I had a question about some jewellery and wanted to speak to the Manager of the store. The assistant was extremely rude and unhelpful and tried to prevent me speaking to the Manager. In future I will take my business elsewhere.

Dishonest, unprofressional and unethical

I took two watches in for a simple battery replacement. One was a Movado that had never had the battery replaced and had hardly been worn. Rather than admit they could not do the job properly, they used a tool with teeth to hold the watch and damaged it. They were diffcult and unapologetic about the damage, but told me to get a quote for the repair after my insistance. After taking the time to get the quote they told me that they would not bother responding to me and that they had no intention of rectifying it, telling me, ""These things happen"".
On a side note, the other watch stopped working 2 days after they had replaced the battery.
