Went here for dinner last night after purchasing a Groupon a few months ago. Have to say the food was excellent (I got the shrimp and scallop polenta and my bf had the seafood stew). Portions were generous. Wine list was a bit pricey. Our waitress was friendly, but food service was a bit slow. It took nearly 20mins for appetizers to come out (but they were delicious, so it was forgiven). Only major complaint I can have is that at first glance the place seems glamorous, but once you look into the details it definitely needs an update. The back of my chair was a bit beat up, both my wine glass and one of the appetizer plates had a chip on the edge, the outdoor bar/lounge area has some sort of serving station that seems to be made of whitewashed particle board. If the food hadn't been so good, I probably would have cut my rating in half. Also, fyi, we went on a Thursday night and the place was basically empty. Some of the other reviews on here complain about it being packed, but last night it was the exact opposite.
Like most Italians I do not frequent Italian restaurants because they never make food as good as mom and grandma. My friends would describe the process of getting to come to Sabatinos as similar to having teeth pulled. But I finally relented and visited Sabatinos with them. I still remember how fantastic the food was. I am no push over and am very judgmental about Italian food. My experience was so good that I have invited other Italian friends from New York and Philly who like me would never eat out at Italians restaurants. They also have fallen in love with this Beautiful place. I truly believe that there is not better judge. So if you want to try the Best Italian Restaurant in Maryland go to Little Italy in Baltimore and enjoy. If you are ever in Annapolis try Mangia at the Harbor. Thank you.
From the title of my review, I'm sure you can guess what I'm going to say. After all the changes that Little Italy has made over the years, La Scala has stayed the same. I have been coming back year after year, just to be greeted by Chef Nino and all of his wonderful staff. I am never disappointed and I always enjoy a wonderful meal From their famous GRILLED CAESAR SALAD, that no one can duplicate to their daily specials, everyone will get a taste of something new and exciting that will be sure to warm you to the core. I always make sure to save room for one of mamas homemade cannolis and cream. Most nights, there are an array of flavors to choose from. From the service to their one of a kind famous Espresso Martini (with a secret receipe of course) everything is a perfect 10.
I love the atmosphere, the contemporary Italian food (not American Italian - no spaghetti and meatballs here) and the friendly service. The venue is gorgeous, a turn of the century townhome in the cultural district of downtown Baltimore helps fuel the dining experience. The restaurant has been around 13 years, which says a lot. Like I said earlier, the food is contemporary Italian, working with seasonal, local ingredients and adapting them the Italian mantra of cooking simply with great ingredients. Midweek specials abound. Tuesday night they have a women, Daniela (from Sardinia) that does traditional home style cooking - 4 courses for just $35.00 and Wednesday Night they offer the chefs tasting menu 3 courses for $30.00.
When my husband had a conference to attend in Baltimore we asked about a good Italian reataurant, since we were so close to Little Italy. The hotel sent us to Amicci's. What a treat! Funky atmosphere that reminded me of old (1940's) style decor; fast, friendly service in a causal atmosphere; fantastic food. It all tasted like something you would eat in an Italian home. We enjoyed it so much we went again with another couple who felt the same as we had. I just wish we had an Amicci's in our home in the Pacific Northwest. If we ever get back to Baltimore Amicci's will be our first restaurant choice!
This is a restaurant was exceptional, has great service, and great atmosphere. I would recommend everyone to bring their families, it is a semi-formal environment. The staff was very welcoming and are concerned with everything from the food to having your coat serviced at the front door. This is an authentic italian restaurant from the food to the wine. The wait staff knows excatly what kind of wine to drink that complainments the food. Everyone is friendly and it leaves you with wanting more. My family and I come here at least once a month.
I never thought this kind of restaurant would be in Baltimore. I reminded of something out of LA or Miami not Baltimore. But the food was great and the service was dead on. Only thing I could say is that it was a bit of a wait but it was worth the wait considering it had to be one of the best bars I ever sat in!!! But over all I really liked the place and I will return!
Excellent food and drinks. Good service. There is no comparison between the Olive Garden and Carrabbas. I will NEVER go the OG again! Carrabbas has the best authentic Italian food (I'm not Italian). I only wish they were open for lunch during the week.
It has been around for years and years. For a nice quiet evening of italian food this is one place you would want to visit. They tend to be very busy on the weekends. Their menu has something for everyone on it. The salad is the best in the area.
When anyone asks the locals for their favorite place in Little italy, Amicci's is always in the majority. Completely unpretentious. Their unadvertised appetizer is amazing, garlic shrimp in a bread bowl, be sure to ask for it.
