My children attended this daycare center for 2 months before I removed them. This center is unprofessional and secretive. The owner, Valerie Melvin fails to report all of her earned income. In her contract (which I never received a copy of)she does not give parents receipts for paying late fees($10 a day for late tuition and $1 a minute per child). The center does not allow parents to enter the children's classroom due to the fire hazard setup of having to walk through each classroom to get to another. The staff fails to provide parents with daily reports of events taking place all day.My child reported to me multiple times and I have witnessed the director's children that also attend the center hitting other children and playing with toy guns in the center.I do not recommend this center to anyone.
The staff is extremely rude and not helpful at all. I was hung up on when I called to ask about enrolling my child.

This daycare is run by a bunch of young girls. Our child had a very bad experience there and she is only 2 years old. Let me start from the beginning, first off the place is so small but we thought that an intimate environment would mean direct attention by the teachers there , not the case. The young person that attended to my child looked no older then 15 or sixteen years old and barely opened her mouth to speak or give me an update on my child's day , she always looked like she had an attitude .My child looked like she had physically been in a fight everyday I picked her up. One day when I came to pick up my child one of the staff had been sitting at the kids table eating a chicken box and just left it there , what if one of the little kids would have gotten hold of one of those bones and choked. Another day I saw some boxes of cereal sitting on the floor at the front desk. There is also a long steep staircase that goes to the second floor class and media area that the kids are free to run up and down during play time ,very dangerous. The straw that broke the camels back is when my child caught foot and mouth disease and if the other reasons wasn't bad enough this just topped it for us.
My child attended this center and was Kindergarten ready when he left. What I like best about the center is its strong academic program. While most centers allow the children to play most of the day with little structure, this center is the opposite. This center is much more like a school Pre-K program and nothing like a home daycare where you are just paying for babysitting services. There is structured classwork throughout the day as well as opportunities for free play. The center director, Ms. Pearson is undoubtedly one of the most caring, professional, and qualified people I know. She truly loves all of the children so much and that is clear from how she cares for them. The center even goes above and beyond to offer additional enrichment such as Spanish, Gymnastics, Music, Art, and Field Trips just to name a few. If you want your child to be treated well, well-educated, and well-rounded this center is the place to send them.
I enrolled my child at Charles Plaza Child care development when my child was 2 years old, and now she is 3 and a half. The Director, Theresa Pearson, is such a warm, knowledgeable and professional teacher that shows that she only wants the best for your child. I have seen a lot of growth in my child. She loves to read and presents new things she has learned all the time. Because she knows her alphabets, now her teacher is concentrating on phonetic sounds so she will be learning how to read. My daughter is so excited about going to school, she does not want to miss a day. It makes me feel so proud as a parent to see the joy from my child being in such a positive environment. I feel by her being at Charles Plaza Child Care Development Center, it is preparing her for her future.
I had a wonderful experience at Charles Plaza Childcare & Development. Both of my children graduated from that program and are now excellent students in elementary school. My children started their first weekly magazine there. They learned letters and letter sounds there. They were really prepared for kindergarten when they left that excellent program. I found the teachers to be warm, caring, and informed. An attractive clean environmental that the children really enjoyed.
Lovely people, family owned convince store. Excellent variety and clean and well cared foe. Bonus, is a UPS station so you can get your packages delivered there. Excellent hours, 7days and evenings as well. They also take credit cards over 5 dollars which is unusual foe this type of city store. Also safe neighborhood. They are a godsend for seniors and people who need something in an emergency. Love them!
The other day I checked yellowpages.com for hrs of operation for the Balto. City DSS at 5818 Reisterstown Rd.. After getting their hrs, I just so happen to glance at the review blog. After reading ALL of the comments, my first reaction was to seek some protective gear (kevlar) before I entering the B.C. D.S.S. bldg. Without discounting any of the commentors personal experiences, my experience was just the opposite. From the moment my mother and I walked in and interacted with security guards, to going to two offices where the personnel were; personal, professional and delightful. I was somewhat shocked due to the gravity of what was spelled out on the review blog. I was delighted with the service that the City of Balto. provided both my mother and I on that day. I opted to share my experience with two managers, who were easily accessible and equally delightful despite breaking away from their work at hand to speak with us. Service of this caliber is what makes Baltimore City SHINE!
