When a car is damaged by an accident or weather, what can be repaired and what must be replaced? Or is it time to buy a new car?
No matter whether an accident involved a freshly licensed teen or an experienced driver, knowing what to do (or not do) is essential to bouncing back.
All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
I have taken my cars to Brian for ~15 years.Brian is a certified airplane mechanic and by extension and most likely has forgotten more about cars than most mechanics will ever know.Brian's personal and professional integrity, professional competence and delivery of service is beyond reproach.Brian's expert mechanics, Dan and Rich are incredible in their own rights.Brian, usually at my insistence, checks every little noise or vibration, even outside my cars' regular maintenance schedule to help me "stay ahead of the maintenance and cost curve." As a result, my expenses in maintaining a 1988 Volvo 740 GLE, amortized over the years have been ~$100/month. That translates into ~1/4 of a typical car payment. My vigilance through Brian's care an careful monitoring of my vehicles has saved me the cost of at least two new cars, resulting in my 1988 currently boasting ~445K miles.Brian, realizing that I needed new seats took the time to research a source of nearly new seats to match the interior of my car. He located, acquired, and installed them, obviously saving my back, and ensuring the nearly pristine quality of my trusty steed's cargo bay.I have no idea what I will do if Brian closes his Mt. Washington Autohaus; == Woe unto us. I truly worry about finding as honest, competent, knowledgeable, resourceful, and fairly priced mechanical prize as he with Dan and Rich.
I was recommended this place by a friend who bought a couple of car from Reality Sales and told me they were good. So I called in, spoke to one of the sales guy and I filled out their online application. They took 1 day in getting back to me (I had to call a few times) but they finally called me and asked me to come in. I sat down with one of the bank guys, a bigger guy named Juan, who talked to me about my job, my income, the cars I was interested in and he told me what my options were, because of my credit, which was in the dumps. After 30 minutes or so, he found me a me an approval with a company called ACE Motors. The payments are good, I have GAP Insurance, a 36 month vehicle warranty and the car is running good! No complaints after 8 months.Overall, I had a very good experience. The two ladies they have there were really nice, very friendly and when I wanted my radio fixed (CD player wasn't really working), they helped me find a place to help me do that. In the end, I'm very happy with my car, very happy with how they took care of me. A positive buying experience, after several that have not been so positive.
I definitely have a positive sales experience, I've had some very bad experiences with buying cars (new and used) but Reality was totally different. I did my research and saw the SUV I wanted and Alex handed me the key and let me test drive it. There was no pressure and no haggling over the price which was good. And I was able to look up the AutoCheck report on the truck and everything before making a decision. They never pressured me to get a certain vehicle and I was in control of my decision instead of the other way around. As with the past times that I've bought a car, there is a lot of paper work and it tends to take a few hours to complete the process but that is to be expected Juan was very friendly and touched based on everything in the contract with me. Overall I'm very pleased I went to Reality Auto Sales it is a great place to find a dependable car at a reasonable price.
I took my car into A1 Auto Three Brothers today to get my brakes changed. The owner Paul was very patient with me and explained what exactly i needed done. I have been taking my car here for years and the parts and service he provides is far beyond my expectations and beats the price I pay at the acura dealership.I waited for my car, drank some coffee and was able to get work done on my computer by using there free wifi. It was done before I knew it!The mechanic even found flaws in my wheel locks that the dealer had been stripping for months. This would have been horrible to have been caught on the side of the road with no working wheel locks. I actually took the car back to the dealership to show them this mistake and they providing new wheel locks that three brothers later replaced. Do not waste your time going to any dealer- go to three brothers!
I've been a customer of Mt. Washington Autohaus since 1994 and will be forever. Brian, the owner, and his two assistants are superior. Over the years I've had four different cars worked on there. The don't fix cars just to get it done and collect a bill, Instead, they tell you what's really needed to actually fix the problem. If they don't think they can fix it right, they tell you and suggest another car repair facility. Some people get put off by that, but I'd rather be treated in an honest fashion. Like the professionals they are, I've observed them regularly confer with one another on a job, to be sure they got it right. The prices seem in line with what I hear and see others charge, but I really don't know since it's been so long since I've been elsewhere.
I am so satisfied with my purchase at Reality they were very helpful throughout the whole process, they all work together as a team and that's something you don't see everyday, I was surprised how Jose and Alex worked in sync and then Juan was so friendly along with the Tag lady Yanet she was really nice and funny.... I bought with them about 3 months ago and haven't had not one problem with my car, got a letter in the mail offering me a discount to get my 2 years Tag with Yanet thru their Tag & Title service it was so quick, I recommend going with them!!
When i was looking for a car to buy on Craigslist I had seen several ads by Reality til' i saw the one car that really got my attention and it was with them so i went ahead and called and Alex helped me so thoroughly with showing me the car, my application and i was sold. He took me to see Juan and he got my contract done so quick as fast as these things can go and I drove out on my 06 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a big smile on my face... I recommended this place to my friends and family and already my cousin went and bought a car from them too!!!
Great Price and Fantastic Service Truly no hassle car dealership I still can't believe I was able to buy a car get it financed and be driving away within 2 hours. If it's this simple why does everyone else make it so difficult. Alex helped me fill out the credit application and in about 10 minutes he was letting me know what I was approved for, my monthly payments etc. so I went back with Juan and finished the deal. I thought it was too good to be true but it wasn't. I love my car and have referred 3 of my friends to buy cars from Reality too
This is the second time I took my Honda to Baltimore Collision Center. The first time I ripped a third of my bumper off, and instead of replacing the entire bumper (which I didn't want to do) they did an amazing job reattaching and the cost was shockingly inexpensive. The second time, (yes, I tore it up again!) they fixed it at NO CHARGE!!!!! within 5 minutes. Eventually, i will have to replace the bumper, and they will be the place I take my car to. Can't say enough about how friendly, reasonable, and quality of their service is.
Great Service! They show you exactly whats wrong, explain to you what the repairs are for, etc. Very exceptional customer service. If they make a mistake, rather than telling you your car was broke they will let you know what happened and do everything in their power to make it right. Honest, friendly, and hard working, you don't see these guys sitting around doing nothing on your time! I live about 30 minutes away but still come all the way here for the trustworthy service. Look no further, finally a repair shop you can trust!
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
