Bethel Apostolic Academy
1418 W Columbus St, Bakersfield, CA 93301
My son went here for high school. His college applications were rejected after he graduated. All colleges rejected his application due to his high school transcripts from this "school" being invalid. Only community college accepted his high school diploma as "home school credits". It was heartbreaking to see his future was put on hold. He took an assessment test at Bakersfield College and scored low despite getting nothing but A's at Bethel, with their "gate level" education. We used to think he was so bright and was doing wonderful there. That was until we learned their level of education was not as good as their sales pitch claims to be. They teach a historic 40+ year old A Beka Book curriculum filled with dated graphics and inaccurate info that hasn't been revised in years. I did research and found out it's used for parents who do home schooling. Therefor can't be true that they have a gate level of education. They claim to be MSA accredited, but they aren't listed on the MSA website as members. MSA/CESS accreditation is worthless anyway. The department of education recognizes hundreds of institutional accrediting agencies, and MSA is not one of them! Regret not sending my son to Garces, Bakersfield Christian, or Stockdale Christian. ALL those schools are accredited and have college prep level classes! Even public school would've been a better option.
Don't be fooled with their "We're the lowest cost" angle. They charge a premium for uniforms, unhealthy lunches, textbooks, supplies, functions, trips, and "lab" fees on top of the tuition cost. It quickly adds up and ends up being the same if not more than the pricier private schools in town. I wouldn't send my youngest child here, now that I'm a wiser parent. Don't send your child here if you want them to succeed in life. You'll be wasting your money on below average education. Lastly, beware of their staff reading a script to brain wash you into signing your child up immediately. They have a very aggressive sales team.
I went to Bethel Apostolic Academy for 5 years. My parents and myself felt that the educational standard set by the school was below average. We looked into changing schools and was put on wait list at Garces and Bakersfield Christian. It was difficult transferring to a public school, and other private schools because Bethel had a sketchy accreditation that other schools would not accept. I ended up going to Bakersfield Adult School to make up for the unaccredited High School units that Bethel claimed were valid, before Garces would accept me. $5k a year put to waste... Do not go here. It also didn't help that the staff acted like crooked politicians when we asked about their sketchy accreditation.
