I love their food. Everything is so delicious! My husband reserved the patio for my birthday for Saturday July 26th. At first the manager said yes but we had to put a $120 deposit to reserve the patio. Then when he went to pay the deposit he was told he didn't have to pay the deposit. This day was supposed to be a digit weather day so the manager called to let him know if he would like to have the event inside in their back banquet room and my husband said yes. We arrived and we were set up outside in the patio and it was obviously hot and humid. I asked to have the misters turned on. We had reservations for a party if 20 and we had one waiter and one busboy helping him. Our waiter was also bar-tending so it took a long time to get our drinks and food. When we all finally got our food (in portions) one of my guest was sitting for without her food for about 10min it took another guest to go remind the waiter/bartender they forgot a plate. Over all we just won't be going back. Food is good but this was not such a good experience. The manager told us he wanted us to have a good experience and we really didn't.
I have passed this place many times over the years and yet did not go in; the windows etc always made it look closed. Was next door for another reason so went in to look around. Was so surprised to see a REAL Mexican restaurant in Bakersfield. Got the fish taco on suggestion of lovely waitress, and it was huge. One was plenty for $4.50. I went back the next night to get the whole fried fish..delicious and so filling. I will go back, as I have a couple of weeks to eat alone, and I love seafood. This is the best; I eyed other people's plates and will go back tomorrow for the bacon/cheese shrimp, which is highly acclaimed by many. Don't pass this place up. The furniture is old, and it is mainly Hispanics there, and the menu is in Spanish but with English translations. You can always tell a great ethnic restaurant by whom eats there. The staff was so friendly. You can spend little or a lot. Believe me, the taco at $4.50 is unlike any other Fish taco you have had.
This resturaunts food is delusions, not to mention they give a generous amount of food for the money, which I can say is always appreciated. I ordered a taco for $1 and was surprised to see that the employee put lots of meat. Most of the tacos I've received from other places are practically just the tortilla. There meat is perfectly seasoned. There food is of great quality, and the restaurant is clean. I do suggest that if your looking forward to eat some very delicious home made style Mexican food, come eat here.
The guacamole was wonderful, I highly reccommend it. The service was slow, it took more than ten minutes to get a refill on our drinks. The restaurant wasn't busy, so there should have been no reason the waitress was slow. The food didn't have a lot of taste to it. Half there employees had an accent so strong I had to ask many times what they were saying. I had the worst stomach ache after eating there. I was burping and farting for at least 4 hours. I felt like I had a bowling ball in my gut.
Ya the person below me has no idea what they are talking. Of coarse they are not mexican. The special burrito is a chili vedre burrito with chili vedre sauce on top and melted cheese. So ya if this person would have asked what was inside of it or what it was probably would have been a good idea. This restaurant has been there for over 40 years and it a great family business. I say that everyone should not judge upon what others say and should at least try it once to see what you all think.
I've been a customer of Don Perico's Resteraunt, since it was called "El Barrellito's" in Rosedale by the K-Mart. Those of you who have lived in Bakersfield a number of years will know how long that is! Sunday brunch is my favorite, all you can eat buffett, for about $10 per person. Monday night Fajitas are the best! Try their Chili Verde. My cousins come here so often they are called "The Sister's" and are always able to find a table.
This restaurant dishes up some of the finest Mexican food in the city. The recipes are handed down by the family and their Chili Rellenos are to die for. The portions are generous and the staff is attentive and friendly. Modestly priced and a very good value. Great Place to entertain family and friends with some banquet facilities at their White Ln.store. I don't think anyone who likes good Mexican food will be disappointed.
But with waiting 10 minutes to get ignored at the bar, beg for a beer, and when I left my BAR SEAT to ask where I could get a fork, was told they could get me one. Did'nt appear till I asked a different girl and nobody greets anyone here. I have spoken to lots of servers here in Bako n they tell me tips are low here. maybe cuz the service industry here is scheisty. more time spent with each other more than there paying customers
I have been going to El Portal for over 10 years now. Everything on the menu is great! When I come in the waitors treat me like family. I have tried dozens of other mexican restraurants and always come back to El Portal. The quality of food and service just can't be beat! I would reccomend ordering the Steak Picado W/ Fajita meat. The Fajita meat is marinated and out of this world!
Maybe the restaurant had a lot of people when you went and it took her a long time to get your order because she was packed. The last time I went there, the service was great and that was the best food I've ever tasted. Probably all you want is for the waiters to go straight to you and forget the rest! I would recoment this food to everyone that likes tasty, authentic Mexican Food.
