I scheduled reservation; the parking was easy, 68 degrees located next to Deep Eddy Cabaret which I had not been to in years, so it was fun to walk by a familiar Austin establishment as we entered the restaurant. The food was excellent, I had the Grilled Trout, and my date had the chicken parmes…

If you want decent, fresh food served by greasy, long-haired, stretched-lobed individuals with attitude problems, save yourself about 50 percent and head down the street to Thundercloud's. The food here is so-so for the most part, although stay away from the empanadas, they are incredibly dry a…

So, let me just start by saying- I. LOVE. TACOS. And I have pretty high expectations for said tacos. AND I tend to get a craving for them when most places are shutting down. Well, lo and behold to find that Torchy's is open til 10 on weekdays and 11 on weekends! When I got there, Queen was playing. The guy behind the counter asked me about my day like he genuinely cared. There's Maine Root in the soda fountain. And the food is also fantastic! Since this first experience, I've frequented Torchy's Tacos several times a month. I used to always get the Baja Shrimp and the Fried Avocado tacos. Baja Shrimp is generously filled with hand battered and fried (but not greasy) shrimp, pickled vegetables, queso fresco and lime. There is a great balance of spicy, acidic and cool flavors all wrapped up in the tortilla. The Fried Avocado is a hand battered and fried avocado with refried beans, shredded cheese, lettuce and tomato. I love the texture and creamy flavors of this taco! It is so good, and I never order vegetarian items. But in the past couple years I've rotated in other flavors. The Democrat is filled to bursting with barbacoa. I was really impressed with the quality of it considering that Torchy's isn't exactly Mexican food. It is very flavorful and not greasy at all. You gotta get the Trailer Park "trashy"- fried chicken smothered in green chile queso and pico de gallo. Creative and delicious- this one is a guilty pleasure! I actually got to Green Chile Pork by mistake one time. Although it's not what I ordered, it is pretty dang tasty. The pulled pork is juicy and flavorful and the green chiles- of which I'm not a huge fan- do not overpower anything. But, the customer service at Torchy's is outstanding. I called to let them know my order got mixed up- just to make sure someone else didn't get the taco I ordered and they put me down for a free taco. I really appreciated their customer care! There is a different taco of the month each month that coordinates with holidays or weather, and they are generally pretty great. And lastly, I always ALWAYS get extra Chipotle Sauce and Poblano Sauce no matter which tacos I order. I could drink that stuff!
My boyfriend and I stopped by this place on a whim one night, and we were really glad we did! It's pretty small so you might miss it from the road, but you can't miss the drool-inducing smell of brisket smoking. The restaurant is family owned and operated. The grandma, a spunky and sweet woman, took our orders and made some recommendations while her grandsons worked the cash register and sliced our meat. The place just oozes family warmness and hospitality. The brisket was nice and moist with plenty of self-serve sauce, onions and pickles. We also got an order of ribs. SO good! I mean, I'm a sucker for ribs, but they all had plenty of meat on them and were seasoned just enough to enhance the delicious flavors already present but not mask any of them. I really appreciated that even though we came in pretty close to closing time all of the meat was hot off the smoker. All of the side dishes came in portions bigger than I could eat (yay leftovers!) and the banana pudding was a perfect ending note to the meal. Oh, and endless Dr Pepper from the fountain was a definite plus. I wish there had been a couple more options on the menu and that it was open later, but overall I really liked The Pit. Very reasonable prices, sweet family hospitality and freshly made food were well worth the visit!
A great place to go on a Friday or Saturday night. Went with a big group of ppl a cpl of Saturdays ago and was very pleasently suprised. Upscale bbq? Is there really sucha thing ? Well this sure is and its delicious ! My gf had the whole chicken and I had the Ribs...the way the sides are served is a great idea,.they are family size sides and since we were in a group we got to try about 4 or 5 sides...my fav of which was the 3 chz mac and chz soooo good ! We also had the bacon seasoned collared greens which were out of this world as well as the amazing okra. The waiter was very knowledgable and recommended some great things...even the dessert was great. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for something new...if you go be sure to check out the upstairs ! ! I wont give away the suprise !
This is the kind of place that I grew up loving as a kid in East Texas. It looks like a hole in the wall on the outside, and then you get inside and realize that it really is! I absolutely love dives! Not places that try to be authentic, but are. You feel like the people at Sam's are there because they really think they make great BBQ. They're not just there to turn a buck. The people who work there are always very lively and friendly. Their BBQ is alright and their desserts taste like someone made them at home and brought them to the store. I love that they're open really late on weekends, like 2am or something. It's fun partying with friends all night and dropping in for something extra to top the evening off.
I have been going to Stylin since i moved to Austin 5 years ago. I am so glad i did. Blanca is my stylist...and sure, she has experience and is AMAZING at her work...but it is more than that. She creates an environment where her understudy's can learn and get great at what they do. She brings passion and finesse to her shops and it is contageous to all who work for her and have been her clients. I am very picky about who touches my hair. And i am so thankful that I found Blanca and her team. They not only make a touchy experience relaxed and comfortable...they take it to a new level by always increasing and adding to your experience. If you havent visited one of Blancas shops, check em out!
Literally as good as it gets. People always used to talk about how tacos were amazing in Texas and I always just thought to myself "how good can a taco get." Torchy's. Blew. My. Mind. It expanded what I thought were the limits of good Mexican food. I got a jerk chicken taco and a Mr. Pink, both of which had such a strong incredible flavor and fresh meats that it knocked my socks off on their dirt patched ground at this food truck stop. We also got some queso to share with the group and that really set me off right as it had some red pepper floating around and had a consistency that wasn't too drippy but also not too thick as to turn to lard when cooled. oh my god. If you get a chance do NOT miss this.
In my opinion, it is hard to have a bad BBQ experience so the "feel" for a good BBQ restaruant usually comes from the atmosphere. That can make or break a BBQ restaurant. The County Line lived up to the hype. A well-worn but expansive dining room full of character with a cozy bar area and a fabulous patio to enjoy the beautiful Texas sunsets. The BBQ passed the test to - well-cooked beef brisket and ribs and admirable pork BBQ (I'm from the South so I just had to test it). go for the marbled 2nd cut brisket - it just about melts in your mouth. Wash it all down with a Shiner and I'm in heaven. The only thing they are missing is mac & cheese. Is that a Southern thing too?
The people here are so FRIENDLY, open-minded, and willing to work with my girlfriend and I, who are deaf. I have to have gluten free foods, but sometimes I forget to carefully look at what I order. I originally ordered Fried Avocado and The Indepedent... not realizing they are fried in battered! When they brought it, I apologized to them for my fault in not asking about the batter. They were just fine with it and went ahead to make it without he batter! And... let me tell you, I'm from CA... it is DELICIOUS! Their chips, corn tortilla, and just the ingredients themselves... mouth-watering. Plus the love from the workers makes this taste even better :) Thank you Torchy Tacos!
I've loved Ruby's BBQ ever since I started going there about 9 years ago. My absolute favorite there is their chopped beef BBQ. It's the best I've ever had. They have minced bits of jalapenos and onions in it that make it kind of spicey and super flavorful. I also love their sides, especially their salad with the balsamic vinaigrette. The only thing I've found lacking so far is that I've had dessert there once and it wasn't too hot. The service is usually very casual but nice and polite. When you ask them for something, they're always friendly. I also love that they're open late for a BBQ joint. I think it's until midnight or something.
I scheduled reservation; the parking was easy, 68 degrees located next to Deep Eddy Cabaret which I had not been to in years, so it was fun to walk by a familiar Austin establishment as we entered the restaurant. The food was excellent, I had the Grilled Trout, and my date had the chicken parmesan. The atmosphere was elegant but relaxed, and it made for a very nice evening. When you have chosen a new place to dine especially in a new relationship it really can make or break the evening what restaurant you choose. I can recommend 68 degrees, and I wanted to take the time to say thanks for a great evening. All the best Eric
