Yost Automotive #1
Yost Autmotive I
Yost Austomotive IT IS! Please read an honest review. I am a difficult customer to please and I was blown away with their service. If you are like me, I had all the worries most customers have. The doubts, fears, anxiety, you name it. The moment I walked through their doors, it felt real. The front office is set up in a welcoming setting. The front office girl was professional but a little smile can add that feeling of the icing on the cake about the entire experience. The guys sitting behind her jumped into the conversation and made sure that I was getting all my questions properly answered. They made sure to call me with a status before proceeding with any work. I thought my car needed a minor fix, but it was not. I normally tend to ask a thousand questions and want proof, but it all made sense and they never gave me the feeling that I was getting ripped off. They had everything done within a day. Not only my car was running like new, but the did such a beautiful detail job cleaning my car. Something complementary and beautifully done. They gained a loyal customer for life. I am taking my shuttle bus to them too!

It seems absurd to put a headline like this on a review for an auto mechanic, but the tone of the negative reviews on here lead me to believe that epistemic closure has come to citysearch. I doubt that many, if any of them has even done business with Yost Automotive, or if some semblance of what they describe actually happened, talked directly with Michael to try and resolve the situation.
Michael's been the #1 mechanic for me and my family for years. He even worked on our broken-down old Fords for us before we took his advice and bought cars that need much less service. He's an honest man and mechanic, and hires good, honest mechanics to work for him.
Michael's not bashful about his political leanings, and the last time I was in his shop there were a few stickers on the wall that might have put off a neo-con or teabagger. You'll often hear KUT playing when you visit his shop. This alone sets him apart from 99% of the others who force you to listen to hate talk while you're waiting to get your car serviced.
I'm absolutely certain that Michael is just as fair to anybody that might not agree with him politically. I'm not so sure that the negative reviewers on here could say the same.

Mike Youst is the honest Automotive business in Austin. These people that are putting the hammer on him did not give him a chance to correct the problems they think they still have. Ive been doing business with Mike for about 4 yrs. now and will certainly go back.
If Youst Automotive does work on your car and you are not happy get with Mike and let him know your concerns.
He will make it right.
But then there are always those that just want to complain because their life sucks and they dont ever want to be happy.
Youst Automotive isnt perfect but they are pretty close.
Find me a auto service business that is perfect and their shop rate will be 150.00/hr.

I honestly have no idea what a lot of the people on here are talking about, and not just because they have terrible grammar. These guys are great and have always done nothing but quality, affordable work for me. I know a decent bit about cars, but every time I can't figure something out or don't have the time to fix it myself, I always take my car to Yost. I've been taking my cars to him and the guys for years and have never once had a bad experience which says A LOT for a mechanic shop! I read most of the reviews on here just for fun and it seems like most of these people know absolutely nothing about automotive repair. The 'sell your info' guy is just plum crazy, and I'm pretty sure one of those is a guy that works next store to Yost, at Groovy. The only downside to this shop is the parking is sometimes not so good because they have so much business! Those poor guys next store at groovy seem to have no business at all, but I guess reputation precedes them both!
I don't really care what the other reviews on here say, I will definitely continue to take my car to these guys for as long as I can!
I heard good things about this place so I dropped my car off. Later in the week, after their ""repair"", the car wouldn't even start! They ended up charging ME to repair the stuff they broke the first time! Sure enough, after picking up the car the SECOND time, I can tell it's got new problems. The stick shift is shaking now and making noise, and the idle is messed up.
I can see how this is going to go. Every time I take the car in I can expect new and interesting problems.
No thanks. I'll find a competent shop.
I wish I could give this awful place zero stars but Web 2.0 won't let me.
Wow, let me catch my breath here because I just got totally screwed by this hellhole.
I took the car in for brakes, pads, and A/C. The A/C blew hot air, so it was either a hose, freon, etc. The next day I pick it up, and later that evening I notice the battery light on and the E-Brake light faintly on. Odd, and it HAD to have been because of them. I had never had a problem with my battery or alternator, and this happens the very day that they worked on my car?!
I take the car back when I have a chance and immediately they're defensive about it and feeding me all kinds of BS lines. It's obvious they've made these kinds of mistakes before. No matter what I say or do, I'm screwed. They bilk me for another $500 to replace the battery and alternator that they broke when troubleshooting my A/C, the last $500 to my name.
I took my car in for a few simple repairs and ended up really paying the price for it.
The shop looks like garbage and that's how you'll be treated. If you're gonna go there, make sure to take some lube with you because you're gonna get reamed.

We took our car to Yost in April to get a new water cooled alternator replaced. In order to replace the alternator in our car you need to also work with the cooling system. We took the car back to Yost 6 times!! When we got it home the first time, the bleeder screw was broken so the shroud was completely loose and bouncing around, the coolant light was on, and it was leaking coolant. Took it back 5 MORE TIMES before we decided this shop is completely and totally incompetent and could NOT resolve the issue. He actually tried to glue the expansion tank to the shroud – o yeah, that worked out really great!! We have since learned that the radiator shroud was also cracked in 2 places, so we replaced that ourselves and are still trouble shooting to fix our car. It is now June and our coolant light is still on and the car leaks coolant, so we are taking it back to the dealer. Not only does this shop do below average work but the front desk help leaves much to be desired.

well, my fiance and i share a 1999 Honda Civic. We had the car that we bought from a Toyota dealership used with 150,000 miles on it. we drove it around town for 6 months, we had the fluids checked every couple of weeks. one morning in august 2009 I drove the car up the road. started it cold and got half a mile from our house when the car just shut off. When I tried to turn the engine over, it wanted to, but it just kept whining. So, my fiance had the car towed to ""Yost"" automotive on north Lamar in Austin TX. She told them exactly how I had said it happened. I could not talk to them because I was working. Yost said that we had a blown head gasket and that it would cost $1800.00 to replace the gasket that had blown, and that the chances it would work were 50%. OR they could replace the whole engine for $2400 and preceded to tell her that the car was not worth fixing. They then quickly offered her $200 to take it off her hands. She refused and had it towed back to our apartment. Yost also told her that we had been driving it around for God knows how long, without water or coolant in the radiator. Just a week before the car stopped working I had checked the coolant & water myself & every thing was fine. So long Story a little bit longer, the car sat in our drive way for a year before we could afford to get it fixed according to Yost's estimate. I had AAA tow the car to Dave's ,on S Congress. I wanted to start with a completely new diagnosis. They told us there were no sparks getting to the spark plugs and so they replaced the ignition coil & the igniter. It was still running rough but they told us that was probably because the car had sat for a year. The gave the car a complete tune up, replaced the battery, spark plugs , oil change, coolant. The car runs like butter now. Dave's said we had a nice little car that would surely last us along time. Dave's also said that the coolant and water level in the radiator were a little low so they topped it off for us. I've learned through this whole fiasco, that if we HAD blown a head gasket, there would be water mixed with the oil. When we checked the oil dip stick there were no signs of any such problems. What's more strange is that Yost has a whole fenced in yard with between 20 or 40 Hondas and other various cars of about the same year as ours that are famous for being extremely reliable and relatively cheap and easy to fix if not neglected. So bottom line, it cost us $750 for EVERYTHING. NO BLOWN HEAD GASKET... NO $2400 FOR A NEW ENGINE! DONT GO TO YOST!

I don't typically take the time to write my opinion online but these guys are worth it. I took my Wife's Xterra in to have the timing belt replaced and an engine diagnostic done due to a cylinder misfire. They called me to give me a guote and their diagnosis prior to doing any work and had it fixed the same day. I had done my research prior to taking it in and their diagnosis was dead on and their quote was cheaper than any others I had recieved. After getting home and reading the invoice I noticed they had replaced the water pump and all the belts as preventative care for the originally quoted price after which I popped the hood and confirmed. I'll be taking all of our automotive work to them.

We took our '78 Ford F-250 to them for a new carburetor, they installed in a day and it ran great. Due to problems not caused by Yost's work, the truck stalled out a couple days later, and they sent a mechanic to where we were stuck and he got her running again in 1/2 an hour, no extra charges required.
They work on all types of engines and makes of car, and give honest advice that can save you lots of money in the long haul. When my husband asked if he should also sink a lot more money into several other aspects of the engine, they reassured him it was not necessary and kept our costs low. We'll be going back to them for all our car work.

I heard this was the most honest repair shop in Austin (I did my homework prior to having 2 cars repaired) but my experience was amazing to the point I had to share...I drove up in a car as it was sprinkling with non-working wipers. He told me he wanted to look at it prior to my driving off when I mentioned this. He found a blown fuse on my washer fluid and both wipers, gave me 3 new ones, shook my hand and said ""nice meeting you...that's safer isn't it?"" and that was it...he charged me nothing. Meanwhile, my PT cruiser was being towed in. It wouldn't drive at all. He called me and told me my alarm system had just malfunctioned and it shut off the gas so he reset it but there was nothing wrong with the car....price? Nothing...cause ""there was nothing wrong with the car"". Love that man.

After taking my car to Just Brakes who wanted $1300 to fix my brakes I took it to Yost on the urgings of several people. They fixed my car for $250, including an oil change! They didn't do as many ""things"" to my car, but they explained that I probably didn't need those things and if I did, we'd know soon enough and what they did do would still be needed. So nothing unnecessary was done. I will ALWAYS take my car to them for everything.
They are nice guys, and have a good rep with everyone I've ever spoken to.
