The Pit in my opinion is the most unethical business establishment in all of Austin TX. Plain and simple fact is that I parked in one of their parking spots to grab a TAKE OUT order of pizza next door. I was in and out in 5 min to have come back to my vehicle that had been booted. The attendant from "Public Parking Enforcement" the company hired by "The Pit" BBQ just waits in her car until you leave your car and immediately boots it. When I came back out to my vehicle with a boot and sticker on it she magically appears from around the corner to demand $150 to unboot car. She asks Cash or Debit, really ? Pretty assumptive. Jessica Hansen. I could see the elderly female owner washing dishes through the side door. After the boot coming off and paying $150 for 5 min of parking I asked the elderly woman if she was the owner. She said yes. I then asked if public parking enforcement was a scam. She said no. I asked if they work for the Pit BBQ. She proceed to lie to my face in obvious attempt to save face and said "No they work around the state monitoring certain businesses." She obviously and blatantly hires this company during peak time to get as much CASH as she can because their restaurant was terrible and had about 2 cars in their parking lot. The rest are open spots just waiting for Pinthouse Pizza patrons that "The Pit" thrives on to extort $150 out of to keep their door opens. The Pit in my opinion has the WORSE business ethics of any company in Austin TX. This restaurant and owners give this thriving area of Austin a bad name !!

My boyfriend and I stopped by ...

My boyfriend and I stopped by this place on a whim one night, and we were really glad we did! It's pretty small so you might miss it from the road, but you can't miss the drool-inducing smell of brisket smoking.

The restaurant is family owned and operated. The grandma, a spunky and sweet woman, took our orders and made some recommendations while her grandsons worked the cash register and sliced our meat. The place just oozes family warmness and hospitality.

The brisket was nice and moist with plenty of self-serve sauce, onions and pickles. We also got an order of ribs. SO good! I mean, I'm a sucker for ribs, but they all had plenty of meat on them and were seasoned just enough to enhance the delicious flavors already present but not mask any of them. I really appreciated that even though we came in pretty close to closing time all of the meat was hot off the smoker.

All of the side dishes came in portions bigger than I could eat (yay leftovers!) and the banana pudding was a perfect ending note to the meal. Oh, and endless Dr Pepper from the fountain was a definite plus.

I wish there had been a couple more options on the menu and that it was open later, but overall I really liked The Pit. Very reasonable prices, sweet family hospitality and freshly made food were well worth the visit!

Awesome BBQ, reminds me of home!

I love BBQ but its really hard to find a good BBQ joint these days. Now days its all fancied up and expensive. The Pit is how BBQ should be served up at the counter in a dimly lit little shack. Now by that I dont mean its a bad thing, its an AUTHENTIC thing! The meat is cooked just right and the prices are great! The chopped beef sandwhiches are the best in Texas and a great deal at 3 for 5 dollars! They remind me of home.

Great Small Barbque Joint

The Pit is a low-ceiling smoky affair. Perfect for authentic barbeque --- excellent brisket and sausage. Great sauce. Good sides ? potato salad and beans. You are offered a choice of white bread or wheat bread. Even if you are a ?granola chomper? (I am), barbeque is best with out-of-the bag white bread. The Pit is one of the few places in town (and you have to be a native Texan to get this one) that has an ice maker that produces shaved ice. It makes those soft drinks oh so perfect. Peach cobbler and banana pudding are above average.
