Although Michael Angelo's officially got it's start in Southern California in 1982, the original recipes for the authentic Italian entrees date back to the late 1880's in Southern Italy where they were handed down through generations. Buoyed by the success, they introduced their products to larger supermarkets. Before long, demand for Michael Angelo's grew to the point where the operation was shifted to a larger facility in nearby Carlsbad. The fledgling company's products were then introduced into the warehouse clubs, including Price Club and Costco. The black packaging soon followed and Michael Angelo's Gourmet Foods was well on its way to becoming a major factor in the Italian food business. The company then moved to a new 50,000-square-foot facility in Vista, California, and in early 1994, began production at a new state-of-the-art 132,000-square-foot facility centrally located in Austin, Texas. The product line has been expanded to include a variety of Italian entrees, calzones and stuffed pastas.
