It's worth your time to eat here.

When I first moved here, I actually ate here (Westlake location) 5 times in one week. The salsa is very good if you can stand some heat. Everything I have ordered was very good with exception to only a 2 star rating on their fish tacos when I tried them. The prices are quite reasonable for being in a high rent area.

Re: ""Chilli Dog Enchaladas""

Maudie's has never billed itself as a ""Mexican"" restaurant. Look at the titles in this listing. Maudie's has always been a ""Tex-Mex"" restuarant. And the ENCHILADA (from Spanish ""enchilar"" = ""to add chili pepper to"", not ""enchalada"") topped with chili con carne (beef chili) is pretty much the quintessential Tex-Mex dish. In the 1940s and 50s my grandfather used the recipes beloved by his family and friends as the foundation for a small restaurant in south Texas. The most fundamental and favored menu item was the enchilada topped with chili. But when times were very tough and beef was a luxury, such as during World War II, my grandfather might have to forego homemade chili and make do with canned Wolf brand. It wasn't haute cuisine, and was never meant to be. It was affordable, satisfying food beloved by south Texans. Call it poor man's food, call it comfort food, but it is basic Tex-Mex, and Maudie's does it very well.

Really good Tex-Mex, great spot

We do love the setting and porch here even if it is crawling with some people cheesier than the food served! Ha, always a wait usually made 10x better with the fantastic margaritas. Perfect for families, groups or just 2. Maudie's has quite a few great plates on their menu although some duds and inconsistent but with that kind of traffic...well better then most.
Staff works hard to take care of you, they have on more than one occassion changed things up for my picky wife!

Tex Mex a la Westlake

When I dine with locals we usually frequent one of the other locations for consistency and no wait. But when there are out-of-towners involved I usually take them to the ""Milagro"" location in Davenport Ranch in Westlake. Its a little more upscale, a great patio and nice drive in West Lake Hills. Because of the volume, Milagro struggles a little with consistency, but when its bad, its still pretty good. The food is Tex-Mex and I don't believe they have ever claimed to be anything else. The margaritas makes those 45 minute waits go a little faster and the Mexican Special induces coma. My only complaints have been my hot plate has come before my cold plate once and the Diablo Soul Food (a normally heavenly concoction of queso, guacamole, pico and spicy meat) has been watery a time or two. Service is average, but they are always busy. Ask for a patio table on a nice day and don't skip the margaritas and Diablo Soul Food. Yum!

Great patio dining!

Out of all the Maudie's, this one is my favorite solely because of their outdoor balcony/patio to dine at. I've never had anything that just wasn't excellent. Great Tex-Mex!

Worth the Wait

This Maudies is no longer a secret. Great views of the hills off the balcony, and great food make it well worth the wait. Salsa is HOT (but gooood). Happy Hours can be crowded with West Lake neighbors. Occasional celebrity siting including Dennis Quaid. Best thing on the menu I've had is the Carne Guisada Burritos.

mediocre service, bad management

The service is average. But what was really bad on our last visit was the management. Apparently there was an electrical fire elsewhere in the stripmall buildling. They told us we'd have to take the food they just gave us and leave, but asked us to give our credit card so they could charge us. We asked about some compensation since we didn't get to sit and eat our meal. The manager came by eventually and said in an annoyed tone, ""I heard you wanted to talk to me?"" When we politely asked whether there would be any compensation for being rushed out, the manager said ""it's not our fault so we won't give you anything"", and was generally rude. We finally asked her to keep the food and not charge us for it, which she did!. Then it took her another 10 minutes or so to fix up the bill and just charge for the drinks. Either there was a fire, in which case they should have sent us out immediately for no charge, or it was no big deal and they should have let us finish. Instead they told us to leave, made us box up our just served meals and then messed around forever with our bill. I heard several other tables of people on the way out having the same discussions. This place must be popular to be able to treat customers like that. I'll never go back there by my own choice....

Very solid breakfast tacos!

I've been going to Maudie's locations since I moved to Austin in 1999. When Milagro opened, I was skeptical -- upscale Maudie's?!

Fortunately, this location does not disappoint. The menu, food and value of Maudie's Milagro are all very consistent. Atmosphere at this location is much better than the other locations, and includes a nice patio.

The salsa tends to be heavier on the garlic than the other Maudie's, could be a plus or a minus for you.

This Maudie's is way behind the others in their service. Their servers are inattentive and the floor seems generally understaffed. Empty chips and salsa and water may take a long time to get refilled. Staff are definitely less interested in their jobs than I like to see.

If you've never been to a Maudie's, you definitely should go! Their breakfast tacos are terrific, chips and salsa always fresh, and always terrific value.
