On my first visit to First Chinese Barbecue the food and conversation was overshadowed by an aggressive waitstaff. With our menus still open and a friend and I clearly still reviewing the selection, someone was constantly asking if we were ready to order. Between the overly frequent trips, someone always stood too close to the table, waiting, watching, lurking, seemingly rushing people out the door. The food was reasonable, though the portions, wasteful. This will be my only visit.

Been twice now - each time its been a food celebration. The crispy shrimp without shells has me dreaming about the next time I get to go.
Plus my family loved it - the portions are huge, the rice is nice and sticky and BBQ pork is yummy.

We went in as a party of 8 and put our name on a waiting list only to be pasted up several times until they forgot about our party. Their hostee, if they knew what one was, was also waiting tables and busing tables. Last Chinese Barbecue is so unorganized at seating customers properly that the cashier had to ask a busboy for help only to have him seat the party behind us. After complaining to the manager, the only thing she could say and probably knows was ""table soon"".
NOTE TO LAST CHINESE BARBECUE: HIRE A HOSTEE TO HOST AND SEAT CUSTOMERS AS THEY COME IN OR AT LEASE TRY TOO AND GET RID OF THAT STUPID SIGN UP LIST.

I first headed over here because of a review on Austin360 (Austin American Statesman page), and I was not dissappointed. The duck really was wonderful, and they have a lot of hard to find dishes. I was pleasantly surprised when I asked the waitress if she knew what Singapore Noodles were. And the plate she brought out was just what I had remembered from my trips to Chinatown. The most amazing noodles ever! They serve huge family style portions too. Two main dishes came with white rice, and the leftovers lasted us two more (yummy) meals.
Go for lunch, and try to be early because they get packed. Last time I was there I noticed that over half the clientelle were of Asian descent. A good sign. Prices are affordable and waitstaff is very friendly and helpful. The prices were great, and I really can't think of any complaints other than perhaps the overly generic decor. At least since the building is new it is pretty clean.
In closing, First Chinese BBQ is a highly recommended traditional Chinatown Chinese restaurant.
