If you don't get a warranty of some kind and diligently check your cords and battery and continually check your hard drive for faulty issues, you could be getting someone's reject -- which is the nature of buying something used.
Do NOT throw away any receipts and make sure when you have your PC repaired, you get it back with all the drives it originally came in, mainly for PC swaps.
The manager here is actually a very nice person, and you can avoid a LOT of inconvenience by going straight to him.
I can tell you one thing.... People DO read these reviews... I found out the hard way.
It's just better to get something new or get everything in writing first.
I was looking for a specific usb cable for my digital camera, so I phoned and gave all details. "Sure we have it ", was the response. So there I go across town to the store, only to have the fellow there tell me they don't have any cable that would work for my camera. After the back and forth, he said that when anyone asks for a usb cable on the phone, since they carry several, the standard answer is to say that they had whatever the customer was asking for. More back and forth and he said, "Well what do you want me to do?" How snarky and arrogant!!! He should know very well what to do. He certainly wasn't concerned about my wasted time and effort. Off my list forever.

Laptop was running slow, like it had a virus. Brought it to Anderson Rd location - tech worked on it for 1.5 hours at no charge. No virus, but disabled Office Plug-Ins in Norton/Options/AntiVirus/Miscellaneous, repaired Microsoft Office, and increased the processor speed. Will return to Discount Electronics with my business the next time the hard drive expires.

Went to Round Rock store for memory. Bought an upgrade. Take it home and it doesn't work. Go back. I wanted matched speed and type. They said it makes no difference. Home again and system crashes with new memory. Back again and they laughed it off. Made them test it and sure enough it is bad. No refunds at this place. Had to demand they test and give me matching memory. Works now but never go back because of attitude of people there.

I went to Discount Electronics on Anderson Lane two weeks ago to buy some speakers. Wow! The customer service was great! Michelle was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. She helped me pick out the right speakers for my computer. I often shop at the big name corporate stores and pay way too much and get lousy customer service. Your employee made me a Discount Electronics customer for life. No more Big Box stores for me.
I even went back the next day and bought a laptop mouse and I got the same great service that I experienced the day before. Please thank Michelle for me. She is awesome!

I have been buying parts to build, repair or upgrade my computers, at discount electronics for years. I have been told that problems with ram are common, but I had never had a problem till the other day. I brought one stick back to them and they said if the replacement one gave me problems just bring my computer up there. Sure enough the next ram stick didn't work in my computer. When I brought the computer up they had to try so many to find one that my computer would except. The guy that was working on it (Conor) was running back and forth between work he was taking care of in the back and my computer in the front. He never missed a beat. While he was doing this he also held a friendly conversation that led to me asking about an issue I was having with my childrens computer. Conor told me if I grabbed it from my house he would stay late and take a look at it while he was working on my ram. He made sure all my ram sticks worked together (including the one I bought on the spot knowing he was there to check its compatability) and helped me with the childrens computer. When I asked what I owed for all his time he made it clear that he was just happy that they could find the ram that worked for me and assist with the kids computer. He even helped me carry everything out to the car. Conor ROCKS and so does discount electronics! I will be a customer for life!!!!!
I had 2 laptops in which I thought the DC jack(i think that's what it's called) might be loose, because I had just gotten new chargers and then they died so I brought them in. The lady at the front was friendly, but said that to fix the problem is $100 or so and to check it is $50 down. I signed something which I just glanced over and didn't see the non-refundable part of it. Then I came back a couple days later and they said that the DC jack was not the problem and I just needed a new charger.
There was a different lady, Michelle who just double checked with a new charger and I asked if I could get a refund. At first the answer was no, because the paper said non-refundable. She later personally called me to let me know she had talked to her manager Matt to let me get a refund. When I went back they explained that it was just a mis-communication and it should have been an easy fix.
I'm happy with how Michelle personally called me. That's customer service, but it always helps to research your problem and read all the paperwork. lol

I discovered these particular store through the internet. I heard people in my community talking about the store which is a lot more NEGATIVE than a POSITIVE one. But I decided to go anyway with my HP laptop with a common problem,(hinges, that attached the cover to the base). I know my son ca fixed the problem but I realized he's so busy between his work and family so I decided to take it over to Discount Electronics. I came and explain to a repair technician what the problem is;showed to him in a separate containers the rest of the parts, like screws, broken hinges, which my son
already started to work on. Make a DEPOSIT charged to my credit card in the amount of $53.04. Between 12-16-2010 and 01-11-2011 nothing was done to my laptop. They only call you once; and if you missed that call you're stuck. The first call, they said ;they need my approval to order parts and they always mentioned the $99.00 something that they are going to charge excluding the price of whatever parts they need to order.A woman, who's on the other line seems not really interested on explaining things to a customer.Whatever the Tech told her between parts to order and charges, period and hung-up the phone. The whole situations came back to me about what people were talking about these stores, they give you a run around, in other words, these people build their business without knowing the business at all. Just to inform these people from this particular store, my son 's an ELECTRONIC WIZARD ! I will never recommend anybody to go to this store,NEVER !!!!!!!
Had a good experience shopping there 2 weeks back, went in looking for a replacement ink cartridge for a printer I bought there in January but they didn't carry any.
But the sales guy.. I can't remember his name but he looked very military, any case he was helpful... and was able to find me a place not too far that did ink refills. I didn't know I could do that.. and for half the price.. after-wards I asked some questions which I'm sure I sounded stupid, but he didn't make me feel like that.. and because of that, I ended up buying a new tower to replace my old Packard bell.
I love the artwork in this store as well... but the customer service was in my book excellent.
I was looking for a system for my daughter but most of the computers there were not the Newer Intel processors I wanted. But my salesperson EJ was very helpful, was able to find me a newer system in the back and even tho I was only going to get the box, he convinced me to get a Dell package with a flat panel monitor and now my wife is happy cause she gets a new screen out of it.
Great prices on some other stuff like photo paper and some speakers.. overall I had a good time shopping there.

Why would a sales person every need to talk down to you? This is the question I asked myself as I left Mr. notebook. The answer is insecurity of course. They are not sure about their products or knowledge. I'm knowlegable enough about computers to get my jobs done. So when Dude kept trying to slip terms like dropping names, I began to get suspisious and quite. He took it as if he won my respect with his word usage and contunued to dig his hole. He didn't stop untill he tried to feed me some flat out BS about Apple computers and I said. ""Dude, what are you really tring to do right now?"" He knew he was caught. Agressive mud slinging is no way to sell anything, much less computers. Folks are wary enough about purchasing the mystical, magic box that has become so important to our sucsess. This is why I was so happy to find Discount electronics. Matt Gustafsm didn't try to make me believe he was all knowing and all powerful. He was just a normal dude trying his best to make sure I was matched with the right laptop for the right price. He didn't try to make me feel insecure- just the oppisite in fact. He took his time and showed me the differences plainly on the computers in question. At one time durring this experience I was leaning towards the more expensive computer. He was not worried about his commision. He was worried about my needs. This makes me pledge my alliegence to his store. This was not the first time I had a pleasent experience at Discount Electronics, so it makes me think the management or the owners' heart is in the right place. Dudes are cool. I am powerfully, thankful for them and will only shop there for all my electronic needs from now on. G~d Bless DE!
