Depew Appliance Sales & Service
6717 Burnet Rd Ste B, Austin, TX 78757
If I could do less than one star, I would - they're scammers. They convinced us it would be cheaper and easier for us to bring our appliance to their store to fix instead of a house call, but it ended up costing the exact same (first it was $150 for a house call, then it was suddenly only $99 (after we paid $97 to drop it off to them). On our receipt (inc tax), it says they charged us $80 for us to drop it in, but my statement says $97, which is totally illegal. They held it for a month, leaving us without, after promising it back a few days later than when we brought it in. They never returned our calls as they were always "away on a call" fixing other people's appliances. When we finally got it back, it was scratched, dented and nothing had changed at all - it was still broken! But we paid them $300. When I tried to get them to fix it (as they are supposed to have a 30 day warranty) they outright refused.
I don't recommend this group. I had a technician come out. We paid our fee to have the issue addressed and of course they took our money. Told us what the issue was and that they could do this, but would need to take it in for the repairs. Was told they would call me to book it the next morning. Instead I get a call saying 'oh no, we never fix that particular issue'. Didn't even apologize for his serviceman flat out lying to me that yes addressing this would not be a problem! At least the first guy we had come out had the decency to say "I can't do this" and told us there would be no charge. Won't call this group for anything again!
If I could give them a zero star rating I would. THEY'RE HORRIBLE...STAY AWAY, VERY FAR AWAY! My mother purchased a wall unit air conditioner from them back in May. The listing on their site said it was for either window or wall mount, so she called them to order it and they told her that they had that model in stock and would deliver and install it on Wednesday of that week (this was on Monday). They told her the price, added taxes and said that delivery, installation and hauling the old one off was an additional $159. She agreed to all, and when Wednesday came and went, no word from Depew, no new AC, she called them to ask what was going on. She was told by an extremely rude man on the phone that the AC was in fact a special order and would cost $76 more than she'd been told. She asked him why, if it was a special order, they said they had it in stock. He stammered around and finally agreed that it wasn't, but told her they didn't actually have it in stock so it would be a bit longer before it could be delivered. Another couple weeks pass, she has to call several times to check the status because they could never be bothered to contact her you see. Finally, it comes in and they schedule delivery. When the delivery people show up to install it they inform her that it will be an additional $300 over the $159 they'd quoted her to install it because the unit was a window unit, not a wall unit. She showed them the printout wherein the description showed it to be both window and wall. They argued some, but still charged her an additional $200 for some tiny bits of lumber that they went to the nearby Home Depot to buy so they could install it properly. It's not her fault that the description of the unit was incorrect. That falls squarely on the monsters at Depew. So, the unit, taxes, delivery, install and haul away for a small wall unit AC have now totaled nearly $750. She personally went to see Mr. Depew at his store and all he kept saying to her as she told him her side of things was "I disagree" and "You're wrong". He was rude, dismissive and arrogant. His staff lied repeatedly and they cheated a senior citizen on a fixed income by charging her double what they told her initially that the delivery, install and haul off was going to cost. She told them that she was going to report them to the BBB, write a bad Yelp review, etc. and Mr. Depew's response to her was, "Do your worst.". She was trying to "keep it local" by doing business with this company since they're a locally owned and operated store. After having read through the majority of the reviews here it would seem, sadly, that her experience was the norm for this company. We will tell everyone who will listen, and certainly anyone who's talking about buying new appliances, to stay as far away from this horrible company and its rude, arrogant, dismissive, cheating staff as is humanly possible. Depew Appliances, you should be ashamed of yourselves for cheating a senior citizen on a fixed income the way you did, but I'm pretty certain you're not.
Admittedly, I'm a slow learner. Depew has now successfully charged us hundreds and hundreds of dollars in service calls. They refused to honor written quotes and I kept playing, like Vegas, thinking eventually the crappy over-priced Electrolux dishwasher they sold us might actually work. No. I've paid the last dime I will ever pay these crooks just to get out of my life. Good luck to new purchasers ans BEWARE -- these people make their money off service calls, like a scam.

4/23/12: UPDATE: Well, Mike Depew went to the mat for us. I'm floored. Electrolux is replacing the lemon that's cost us $800 since we first bought it.
Depew renewed our faith in them in a way I never, ever expected. They were the reason we've done business with them for years -- and they will continue to be. I lost faith, I admit it. I was wrong.
Depew lets their sales people sell you on this brand or that brand with all kinds of folksy ""This is the real deal"" promises. They sold us a ridiculously expensive dishwasher claiming it would be the last dishwasher we'd ever want. Well, that's true. We bought the high-end Electrolux dishwasher they raved about. This lemon has gone out on us 2-3 times a year and Depew has charged us over $600 to keep the thing running. It was good money after bad. We paid $400 in January 2012 for another ""fix"" and it broke again after less than 90 days.

I used their appliance repair service to fix a dryer that was not heating. They came out when scheduled and completed the job as scheduled. The dryer worked but did not seem to function the same way that it had in the past. The dryer heated but it would ignite the gas with a loud rush periodically. It worked for about six months and then stopped heating again. I called them to see if they could fix the problem. They told me that the repair man that they sent out no longer worked for them and it would cost for them to come out again. I thought fine I will just buy another dryer rather than pay for another costly repair service that might or might not work. I bought a new dryer and had it installed;. When the other dryer was removed the cord to the old dryer had melted to the back of the dryer. WARNING! We were lucky that it did not cause a fire. The dryer was repaired poorly and this company is not willing to stand behind their repairs.

Beware of this appliance store. The products are sub-standard and the customer service is lower than poor. I purchased a washer/dryer set and paid top dollar willing to pay more for someone in the neighborhood and support local business in Austin. My dryer (purchased from them about 7 years ago) had caught on fire and I needed help. Naturally, in a desperate situation, I went to Depew - close to my house. I know now I was at their mercy. I was sold a washer and dryer set that is noted on the web as one of the worst products to buy. There are problems with the dryer - burning clothes, the grate being charred and a smoky odor. ( At the time of purchase, I was told that I was purchasing one of the best sets on the market and that were giving an incredible deal.) I called Depew and first was treated as if I was lying. They couldn't even find my records - from only 3 months before. My telephone number had changed and they said it was the only way to look up my account. After the contact at Depew being insulting, I was able to give every phone number I could remember for last few years. A tech came out and stated that the problem with the burned venting grate in the dryer drum was common and nothing to worry about. I wish I could attach a picture. Yesterday when stopping at the store, I wasn't acknowledged though I know that at least two people saw me - right in front of the desk. When I approached the desk, the telephone rang and the owner, I believe, answered the phone without even motioning to me that he was aware of my presence. I left the store. I will never return to Depew and cannot recommend them to anyone. They sell you something and forget they know you. In the meantime, the washer door now leaks and I certainly cannot call them. Beware, beware, beware.

Dont believe these other positive reviews about this company as they are obviously made by their own employees!! Truth is I hired them a year ago and this is my opportunity to give the community an honest feedback.. I like others on this review have never written a completely negative review on any service or company, but, wow...Depew Appliance is the WORST. I bought a refrig there a year and a half ago because I needed a very small, hard to find model to fit my space. I was having a $30k kitchen redo at the time, and I paid 1/2 up front, then never received any bill from Depew. I frankly forgot about the deal and know one at Depew every followed up by phone or mail until Over a YEAR had passed. The salesman Kenneth accused me on the phone of lying and avoiding my bill. Shocked I told him I would check my records and call him back. Within 10 minutes the owner Mike Depew pulled up to my house! Threatening me if I didn't pay him right there and then. It was like something out of a scene from a ""hit man"" type movie where the big guy comes over to a guy's house to ""lean"" on him to pay off his gambling debt! I'm not embellishing any of this! When I pointed out that it's been over a year since I bought the refrig, Mike just said ""yeah yeah yeah...give me my money...you owe us."" STAY AWAY FROM DEPEW APPLIANCE. BBB has already marked them a warning! Austin..Be wary hiring Depew.
Worst Appliance Store in Austin Texas! Depew appliance is not for Austin because they have terrible attitude when it comes to customer service!! They are rude and disrespectful both on the phone and in person in their store in 5933 Burnet Rd. You are better off with Sears and other well-respected and decent Appliance stores here in Austin.. Depew Appliance management is just after your money.. They dont treat you the way an honest and friendly business should.
Think really twice guys before you shell out your hard earn money to this business!
I was in the area so I decided to stop and see if maybe they had a part that my mom needed for her stove. I went in was greated by them there were four people behind the counter all sitting down. A lady asked if she could help so I asked if her if they carried a receptor for a stove. She asked me what part of the stove it was, she didn't understand and I was explaining what part of the stove it was and there are like three people behind the desk trying to figure it out then a big fat guy got an attitude and said is that the receptor? Yes but I guess they didn't hear me when I mentioned that it was the receptor. Bad customer service and that dam hillbilly needs to think about the way he speaks to the customers or they won't buy. One of those fat asses should have gotten out of their chair ( I know its hard) came up to the counter to talk to me and to also show me the part instead of all of them trying to help. I didn't know who I was even talking to. Go to sears instead.
Depew Appliance and Service Inc is the worst company when it comes to customer service and customer relations. And especially Mr. Michael Depew the manager and owner is the rudest and unprofessional person Ive ever met. He discriminates and doesnt care about your satisfaction as customer.. All Mr. Depew thinks is profit profit!! When he talked down to customers he doesnt take second thoughts.. After complaining my dissatisfaction on the service rendered on my washing machine which I believe their technician Steve misdiagnosed it ..Mr. Michael Depew's reponse is "We have done our job, you are on your own now. We dont need your business. Good Bye!!" I was so surprised with his attitude so I asked "Is this how you treat your customers?" he answered me "This is how I treat you".. I felt discriminated and insulted by his unprofessionalism. I couldnt imagine an owner of a business treating a customer like that.. Before I left I told him that I will report him
to Whirpool since they referred Depew to me and I would also report to the Texas Atty General. He just said "Go ahead do what you want to do. We have nothing to do
with you" I couldnt believe we have a business owner like this here in Austin TX.
Would you still support a company like this???
Never!! Be warned Austinites!!

We have bought several appliances from Depew Appliances and our experience with them has been great. They are professional and informative and listened to my needs to help me get exactly what I wanted. Their prices are competitive, AND, they service what they sell, not like Lowe's or Home Depot. I would recommend Depew Appliance to my family as well as my friends.
