General Info
At Cen-Tex Plating we use a triple plating method. This does not mean you will have three coats of chrome on your piece but its a way to describe the method in which we plate all of our products. The first step in the triple chrome method consists of straightening and fixing all blemishes on your piece. We then grind out all imperfections using a three part method; the first part consists of using a belt sander (for heavier steal and classic bumpers) then we use two different grades of emery wheel sanding making the blemishes less and less noticeable till they are gone or almost unnoticeable depending on the condition of the piece that is going to be chromed. We then use a degreasing agent and an acid base to clean your product so no flaws or blemishes show up during or after plating. The next step is the beginning of the actual plating process; we start with a coat of copper plating this fills in most pot marks and scratches and makes a good medium for additional layers of plating. The next step of the plating process is to clean any residue off your bumper or part. We do this after each different plating process (i.e. nickel, chrome). The next step is to place the product into a nickel bath. Nickel is the actual part of the plating process that turns your dull piece into a gleaming star. We rinse the product again then dip it into our chrome bath which adds a protective glossy coat on top of the nickel giving your product a bright shine with a slightly blue hue to it. Finally we rinse your piece one more time then dry and wrap it in a plastic/paper wrapper which will protect your piece or pieces while they wait for you at our shop.

I inherited two 1967 Plymouth GTX’s from my Brother-In-Law and brought them home to Texas from his place in Georgia recently. FYI, the Plymouth GTX was introduced into the Plymouth line in 1967 and this model did not share the styling or design with other MoPar models. Furthermore the body style changed completely in 1968 and thereafter. Why the long winded intro? ….Because none of the aftermarket classic car parts manufacturers produce reproduction parts for the 1967 Plymouth GTX and additionally only 12,010 units were built that year which is very low. This makes used parts scarce.

I’m restoring both of these cars and needed the services of a good chrome plating company. I took the beat up front and rear bumpers from one of the cars to see how they would turn out being re-chromed. The owner David explained that he would send the bumpers to their San Antonio facility where they had patterns of all the bumpers made when the cars rolled off the assembly line and that their craftsmen would bring my bumpers back to match those specifications. Just thinking about that is really something.

When I returned about four weeks later to get them I unwrapped one and was completely blown away. Nice work? No, spectacular work! The quality of the chrome plating was better than any I have ever seen. The bumper was repaired to perfection and the cost was much less than buying an aftermarket bumper which in this case is unavailable.

I asked if he could refinish some of the pot metal, stainless steel and aluminum trim and he told me to bring them to him. I picked up a bunch of trim and molding from him today and was once again impressed beyond words. This company does outstanding work, at reasonable prices and the turnaround time is great. The only problem I have now is that all the other work on the cars has to be done to somehow match the workmanship standard set by Cen-Tex Plating Co Inc., no easy feat!

I work for Child Protective Services and we had a child who lost their mother. A local business donated an Urn that was slightly damaged due to shipping. Cen-Tex, despite their incredibly busy schedule over the holidays, immediately told me to bring it in and they would see what they could do. They graciously donated their time to polish the Urn making it beautiful for our child. Thank you Cen-Tex for your generous support of our children!

These guys were great. I gave them a really odd job and they were great with it. I bought this crappy loving cup from the 1920's for my fantasy football trophy build. I brought it to them in bad shape. The original plating was all tore up. They got right down to work and in a month I went to pick it up. WOW! It looks amazing with that nickel finish. I mounted it on to a custom wooden base and it looks amazing. I can't wait to show the league. David and the guys at CenTex did a fabulous job and I highly recommend them to anybody.

Cen-Tex did a great job on chroming and shining all the parts from my 122s Volvo. When I asked around from various automotive shops who could do the job professionally and meticulously, Cen-Tex came to the top of the list.

I would highly recommend them for any work where perfection is required.

Best in Austin as far as I am concerned.
