First of all, I should let you know I come from an extensive fitness realm. I have worked in many environments and have been in worse (a certain high profile university weight room). Trust me, that environment was far worse!! Yuck! Just thinking about it.
When I walk in to ANY 24 Hour FItness, I have no energy donated, in other words, there is nothing about the gym, trainers, or members that give me the excitement to workout, it is alllll me. Which, for me is easy, but for most, I believe is hard. Most people have to talk themselves into getting 4 workouts a week, most people, but I would love to see that these people are so inspired to workout because they KNOW they are in a motivating environment, somthing LANCE did not quite get right.
I will rate your 24 hour gyms:
The north Gym on 183: 3.5
The south Gym on W. Cannon: 2
The NE Gym on 41st: 3.7
The ONLY other 24 hour I experienced, Boulder, CO: 4
Why did I give Co a 4 star? Go there, feel the enery, experience the professional trainers (unlike ANY trainers I have seen in Austin), customer service, a WONDERFUL CLEAN steam room (hot is an understatement), and equipment that actually (HA) works!!!
What do you know, all you need to do as a higher management employee in Austin is to go to Boulder and experience that environment (not perfect, but heads above Austin)
Not critically motivated, just frustrated. =)

The gym is not that crowded. I used to go from 5:30 ‘til 7 or so, in worse hours than many other reviewers stated and I always found equipment available. And their equipment is quite diverse. Yes, many times I found equipment being used but there were always other equipments to use meanwhile and the other gym members were always nice about sharing the equipment. The music is loud and I liked it, but other than that I found no reason to describe the environment as frat-party style. I always found parking available as well.
No, I didn’t see the gym staff cleaning the equipment, a few times the gym members after use. No, the whole place is not very clean. But it’s not such a big deal either. Other much more highly ranked gyms (and far more expensive) like CrossFit have worse facilities, especially their new one in Burnet Rd that rather looks like Mexican car-repair business, and nobody seems to mind at all. This is the main reason why I write this review, to balance the injustice from all former cry babies that have written plain pathetic and disgusting reviews of this gym and its staff.
Finally, the staff does try to sell personal training and can be annoying, but all you have to do is to be a bit firm. Besides, their quite approach to selling PT makes it better for you because you are less likely to buy it. Other gyms have far more efficient ways to vacuum your wallet, again like CF. All in all I felt great by going to this gym after being a CF member. Later on I changed it for Gold’s Gym just because they have facility closer to my home and work, as well as some other advantages. Anyways, I recommend this place.

I am a 50ish black woman who joined the gym in CA and then transferred here to Texas. I am not a cougar and just only like friendly service. The only extra friendly worker is the young Asian. The brothers working there turn their heads to avoid acknowledgement. Come on guys, I do not want you--just a friendly hello is expected.

The only reason I dont rate it a 5 is because nothing is perfect. I joined 2 weeks ago and was very surprised with the customer service. When I first walked in the young lady was very helpful and directed me to a sales representative. The young man gave me a tour and answered my questions. He went through all of the offers and since I was ready to commit to losing weight I wasted no time so I joined. This was my second time joining a gym and I had a previous experience at golds gym and the cancellation process was a nightmare. They kept blaming their outsourcing billing department for billing me after I cancelled. I walked into 24 hourfitness this week with a friend who was going with me and needed to cancel since she's moving to Lubbock. They were just as friendly and cancelled her right away and gave her a piece of paper that stated her last day of access. I was very impressed. Give them a try, the only thing I would change is I wish the payments were made at the register rather than directly by bank but I understand that there are too many members to be able to operate this. I would also adjust the TVs to different channels because some were the same.

I joined the Red River 24 Hour Fitness months after it opened. I have seen members come and go, due to the easy no contract memberships. In my opinion, the people that get on here and complain are people that do make excuses for working out period. It is a gym and gyms will be sweaty and sometimes smell like sweat. I work with a Trainer by the name of Tami and she has changed my life. There is plenty of parking since they have the front side, the entire huge parking lot in the back of the building and for a few steps to the side, there is the parking in front of the Deli. People make excuses for their results and efforts and blame the staff and most imporant Corporations. I have never witness rude staff and have always had people help me if I had questions. For the price, I am happy with coming to the gym twice a day because that is all I can do for now. I disagree with the postings made here and I am willing to bet that none of the people that posted are even working out consistently. They will write the same reviews where ever they go. Give this gym a try, they always let people in for free on their passes and I dont know of many clubs that even do that. How about focusing on your workout, instead of the parking ? In my humble opinion. I am 51 years old and have lost 25 lbs and am very happy. Ask for Tami !

I recently joined this club & had great service when I signed up. The new manager, Jay, personally greeted me at the door & took me through the short sign-up process & I was working out within 30 minutes. He also helped me find the best rate possible & explained every detail in a professional & friendly way. I used the stationery bike, one of the nautilus machines, & various weight machines & everything seemed clean. I did notice the towels to wipe down the machines had run out which is a common happening in most gyms I've been a member of. In all, I would rate this facility a 4 out of 5 stars & encourage anyone who has not been there lately to give it another try. I believe you may find a new & improved facility with the hiring of the new manager, Jay.

This could be a great gym. I joined a month ago. IT is so crowded from 6-10pm Monday - Thursday you can't find parking places, and there are waits on every machine. Look close at pool area and sauna which are both very dirty. I am guessing that 80% of the members do not wipe down machines. In the evening it is mostly college students who treat the gym like a frat house. You can't beat the price and location but if you have any ability to pay more don't go here. I have never seen employees cleaning. It is a gym but more could be done. They cut a lot of corners and you get what you pay for. Negotiate for the best price. Sales people will type in codes and get you a lower rate if you are undecided.

With property taxes sky high in this area you'd think they'd get a WAY better gym to attract Hyde Park loyalty but I don't think that's what they're after. Student's cash sounds more like it.
This place is dirty, overly crowded, has pushy salespeople, & is poorly managed. Trying to get a manager just so I could cancel my membership was near impossible. I should have known it when I went in to sign up there was a woman there who had spoken with a manager who had promised her this deal if she joined that day but she had no proof, only his name. They were SO rude to her and only said the guy she spoke to didn't work there any longer. I should've known then becuase how much was she asking for? Like $15 off. So stupid that they wouldn't give it to her.
Now for the Uber Creepy: Search online at Austinist to see how this particular 24 Hour Fitness dealt with a guy doing something inappropriate (they won't let me write it here so go look it up) at the pool while a girl was alone in their pool swimming. UGH! It speaks volumes about this place. You probably never even heard the story. Seems like they'd warn people or press charges but that's too responsible and they're not; just Nasty. They want your cash.
I don't understand how this place has 2 reviews -a 1 star & a 3 star and it ranks in at 3.5 stars? What? Wouldn't that be more like 2.5 stars? Makes no sense but we'll see what my 1 star rating does to their score. Why there isn't a better gym in this neighborhood is beyond me. This area desperately needs an alternative because there is obviously a market here. Again, just sad (and very creepy).

This place is absolutely disgusting. The person who reviewed before me is really nice. The whole place just smells like a sweat sock. Everything is filthy! The pool has black mold growing around the outside of the entire thing and I found a DISPOSABLE RAZOR in the hot tub last week!! Also, when my bathing suit was ruined by the crazy amounts of chlorine in the hot tub, the manager took forever to call me back. So, I kept calling him. Finally got him on the phone and 'he couldn't do anything about the bikini, but waived my $40 renewal fee for 2010'. (Unfortunately I paid for a 3 year membership).
The worst part is that I live 2 blocks from this place. I literally drive up to the new location on Parmer so I don't have to go here anymore.

Yes Lance Armstrong owns this gym, so you'd think they could afford putting towels and sanitizing spray next to the equipment...think again. A major issue with this place is the lack of cleanliness- for example...the sticky stretching mats that seemed to get cleaned once a week, the greasy equipment that everyone's sweaty dirty hands have been on that likely are never wiped down...
Plus if you want to work out any time between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., forget about finding a parking spot and plan on a crowd in the gym. Not a big variety of exercise classes, (if you like that sort of thing), and the sales people are a bit rude.
On the plus side, they seemed to have made an effort improving the quality of their class instructors and there are a lot of options when it comes to exercise equipment.
