DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT with this builder! They are corrupt to the core! I signed a contract with them which included earnest money three years ago...they now REFUSE to build my house! I am not the only one with this complaint...they have no regard for their customers and no honor in an agreement.
We used the Vice Brothers for two major renovations / additions on our home. Without the use of an architect, the work looked like it was original to the house. Theywere timely, dependable, responsive, tidy, pleasent, and did beautiful work. We love both of our projects, one now at least 9 yrs. o…

Apparently they don't need the business. It takes them too long to return phone calls, doesn't answer the phone in a professional manner and can't find time to follow-up on a lead. Maybe someone else will have better luck.

Cottonwood Custom Homes built our unique 5000 sq ft home in the hill country outside Austin. From the earliest planning stages through the final touches on our project, he consistently went above and beyond anything we could have expected to ensure that our home was not only picture perfect, but was exactly and precisely what we wanted. From choosing the perfect build site on our 7 acres to suggesting a loft area to link the kids' rooms, Cottonwood contributed not only solid practical ability in building and managing our project, but also creative and aesthetic ideas that dramatically improved our house. They patiently worked through each of our exacting requirements, and insisted that every worker on the project get every detail perfect. They even went so far as to take over managing the pool construction (at no extra charge, though it was beyond the scope of his contract) when the poolbuilders proved incompetent, just to be sure we weren't left with an unfinished or substandard outcome. This amount of detail and care for their customers make Cottonwood Custom Homes a premier builder.
Having worked with Cottonwood for the past several years, I have first-hand knowledge of the honesty, integrity and professionalism the company displays with each and every client served. The systems and processes that Cottonwood utilizes make the building experience organized and enjoyable for the client as well as anyone else involved with the project. Every time I work with Cottonwood, I know that the project will be finished on time and to the satisfaction of all parties involved.
Terrible. We just purchased our first home this summer and not knowing the process i felt nervous on picking an inspector who might do things the he has done. Kit left out several major items in our inspection. One of them being we have had to hire an electrician and will have to do repair on drywall and cabinets because he missed a major illegal electrical cord install in a bathroom. After we noticed it the home was already ours and little we could do. So i contacted kit to ask him what we could do. Sent him pictures and had several text and phone conversations. One of them being him offering us our inspection fee we paid him back. That would have been great if he actually did that. That was 5 weeks ago. He has said on 4 different occasions that "he'll get that check sent out to me" After the money we've had to pay after the fact, that could have been taken care of by the previous owners is now our headache if only kit would have just noticed it in the first place. I would rethink your options and pick someone else.
We received an estimate from John Wasley of JW Construction on 8/6/2016. The contract was signed with a work begin date of 8/11/2015. The job was for a bathroom remodel. The first set of sub-contractors he sent out included 5 people, 2 of them were decent workers, while the other 3 didn’t seem to have a clue as to what they were supposed to do. They would disappear for hours at a time, not finish the things they were supposed to be working on, and one of them stole some tools and part of a brand new 180 dollar shower head from us. They discontinued their work and John sent in a second crew of sub-contractors. They did ok work on a very slow scale. They would show up late or not show up at all with no notification. The last no show day we called them to inquire where they were and their response to us was that John from JW Construction owed them over $3,000 for work they did that he had not paid and they were not doing any more work until they got paid from him. We have called SEVERAL times and sent SEVERAL text messages to John with no response. There was a guy there to take measurements for the glass that is supposed to go in our shower around 8/21. The glass was supposed to be delivered and installed 9/1/15. We have not heard anything from anyone and don’t even know if the glass was ordered. At this point a project that John told us that would take about 2 weeks, is almost a month in and the bathroom is still not painted, there is still a hole in a door that the sub-contractor knocked a hole in that was supposed to be fixed, a scrape in our vanity that a sub-contractor did that was supposed to be fixed, all of the trim work has not been done, and they hung the shower unit incorrectly and John said he would have a plumber come and adjust it, which by the way never came. We hire our own plumber and had to pay to have it fixed. No clean-up was done we has to get all of the remaining dust and stuff out of the bathroom ourselves, and there is a big pile of trash on the side of our house that they were supposed to haul off but haven’t.John Wasley of JW Construction is a farce and a fraud who does not do any of the work himself, he does not follow any deadlines, he does not finish the job, and he certainly will not communicate with you at all!
Beware of using this company as he has put many people in the same boat by starting projects and not finishing them, but still taking their money.
In June of 2015 we hired John under contract for a fair price to paint the exterior of our house, add gutters and shutters, as well as fix any repairs needed for the exterior. The first day, the men he hired worked efficiently to power wash the house but then sat around for about 4 hours waiting on materials and instructions from John. Day 2 was very similar. The men worked to make repairs then waited around for about 4 more hours on our front lawn. Day 3 was the first day for painting. I walked out to see the entire house being covered in one color, which was not the agreement. I spoke with the painters and they said that was the instruction given from John. As I spoke with them, they agreed that it didn't look good and the garage doors as well as portions of the trim needed to be another color. The painters were fabulous and listened and made suggestions as to where to put specific colors. They paid extreme attention to detail and we are pleased with the paint job. After the paint was completed, another man hired by John came to put on the shutters and gutters as well as install a band on the base of the house. We had some holes that needed to be filled with expand foam and then covered with the band. As the man was putting up the band my husband walked out and noticed that he did not fill the holes. He said he didn't have any expand foam so we supplied him with 2 cans we had left over. Once the gutters and the shutters went up we thought everything was complete. It looked complete at least. That's when my husband and I did a double check on the gutters and found that every single seam and end cap leaked and the water didn't flow correctly in the back. We called John and the man that installed them came back out. He was there for about an hour then left. We figured he sealed them and corrected the flow. We didn't check them again for a couple days to allow time for drying the seal. Once we got back up there we saw that nothing had been fixed except for the flow on the back gutter. All seems were leaking. We called John back and he said he would send someone back out and that we had a year warranty. No one ever came. We called several times throughout the following three days and didn't receive a phone call back. It has now been over a week without contact and we have little hope that it will get fixed. Though we are happy with the paint job, I cannot recommend this company in good confidence because the job, as stated in the contract, has yet to be completed. We would like to give more stars, but the lack of attention to detail and the incomplete job prevent us from doing so.
Be aware before you buy!I'm located in Austin and have waited for more than 6 months. My wife and I were extremely excited for new house. But Sales associate of Centex in Austin, called us today (he has barely called us even when we ask him about house several times) and said we had to change our closing date again due to stove issue although closing date has been changed three times already and all appliances worked fine during our final walk. I was wondering why the stove had issue and he called us a day before closing date. When I went to our new house to see if it had other issue after phone call, broken glasses were around back yard. There has been broke in and both stove and microwave were stolen. The gate of backyard didn't have lock(the backyard gate and garage had locks on before final walk), so I guess thief came through that. The sales associate lied to us and hide what happened to our house. Also, he said Centex is not responsible for our house and extra moving expense now. We all know buying new house is stressful. So it should finish like great smiles from Centex advertisement to offset hard time at the end. However, is it really only thing we can do now is complaining at final survey about crew of Centex? Is it what Centex wants from customers? I have all pictures, texts, Emails, and documents from day 1. I can share if one of you guys want to see what happen to us. We have had multiple issues other than this theft issue. I hope other people can smile rather than having huge mental stress like us. Thanks for reading

Do not buy from Wilshire Homes in New Braunfels. My wife and I recently put down 1K earnest money to secure a lot. We signed our contingency papers and proceeded to the design center to build our home on paper. The base of the home was 245K, what they fail to tell you is that once you get the design center (2 hours spent there), they will charge you for every single detail. Because what comes standard is not worth it. They give you bone stock colors and choices, so It forces you to upgrade to make an eye appealing home. We were staring at near 300k, AFTER THE FIRST MEETING, which there was scheduled to be 2 of them. There were 6 levels of details to choose from. We only picked level 2 items..... We decided to go with chesmar homes because all of the upgrades we chose in Wilshire were standard with Chesmar, plus a fully sodded front and back yard with sprinkler system. Came up to 30k less than Wilshire. We tried to get our 1K back and the project manager said no because they had to pay the design center for us to be there. When we were at the design center we were told that if we went over our time that they had to charge us the STANDARD going rate of $75/hr to be there. How does 2 hours @ $75/hr equate to 1K?! I am stinking mad at the greed of Wilshire homes, my bad word of mouth will cost them a whole lot more than what they could of paid me back in earnest money. I would highly recommend not doing business with them, unless you want to pay out the nose for upgrades. Bad customer service, hard to get a hold of, does not care about your needs unless it fills their pockets!!!! They will be very attentive until you decide not to build with them. Buyer beware.
