This horrible "shelter" needs an overhaul of management and employees. It is a disgrace to the entire State of Colorado--all the negative comments on this site, plus the worldwide bad publicity in the way Aurora has handled 10 yr old Capone. Very bad image of the Denver area. To update Capone's situation, is he home (where he belonged all along) as of Monday, March 20th or not?

I feel sorry for the animals in this facility. It's no their fault they have to be housed there with a bunch of incompetent idiots. If I ever decide to adopt a pet it certainly won't be from there. Aurora Animal Shelter, Give Capone back to his family you heartless jackasses.

SHOW YOUR HUMANITY Aurora Animal Shelter!!!!!!!? please FREE AN INNOCENT DOG NAMED CAPONE. He has been a fine canine citizen for ten years and because of some arbitrary judgement by an inhumane robot he is possibly condemned to death? REALLY?

Awful, cruel place. They will take your animal and hold them hostage. I have no idea why they take our taxes for this place. They barely care for the animals and the shelter is the worst. Poor animals don't have a chance under their care. They should be shut down!! I only left 1 star because I had to. Beware, if your animal gets out, first and only time by accident, they will kill it before they give you a break. Heartless and rude people there.

You take a 10 year old family dog away from its family. Really, because it is possibly part wolf? Hate to break it to you, but all dogs originally came from wolves. Shame on you for being idiots.

They don't care. For Christma...

They don't care.
For Christmas, I adopted a 5 year old stray cat with a heart murmer, missing teeth and half a tail from the Dumb Friends League. He has a lion-heart and loves my young child. But, he was a stray. I am working hard to teach the cat to stay inside, and teach my child not to let him out, he is microchipped and has tags.

two weeks ago, he went missing. I was frantic. I filed a pet finder report, searched the entire subdivision, made flyers, and started combing shelter posts on the internet.

I found a post at the Aurora Animal Shelter website for a FEMALE GRAY TABBY that kinda looked like him, but it was blurry and you couldn't see his tail. I called. They refused to identify my cat over the phone. I went there. They couldn't care less about me or my cat. They didn't bother to scan his microchip, or even check gender (he wears a pink collar- does that make him a female?). They wouldn't even give me a box to take him home in. The Aurora Animal Shelter is poorly run. I love cats, but I strongly recommend AGAINST supporting them in any way.

On the weekend of September 15...

On the weekend of September 15 I took my Pitbull mix Katie, over to my brothers to be dogsat for the weekend. Sunday I came back to pick her up only to find out that his girlfriend had intentionally let her out, Saturday morning. I was distraught and beside myself with panic. Eventually I calmed down and found a description of her on the website but no picture. It was Sunday when I found out so I went to the pound first thing when they opened at 11am Monday morning. By the goodness of god I found my dog..

Unfortunately I was horrified to see feces and blood all over in her cage. I was immediately alarmed because Katie is very well house trained and could hold it for a whole day and a half probably if she had to. But, I brushed it off and immediately went back to the front to try and take my dog home. I presented all the papers and proof that we lived in Westminister where indeed Pitbulls were legal. Unfortunately I was told I would not be able to take her home, and that I would have to go to court to pay a $700 fine plus the $50 fee plusss another $15 dollars a day. And court wasn't set untill two weeks away!!! I was beside myself and wanted to talk to someone to see if there was any way to get Katie out sooner.

They not only told me "no." , but also that these were my "consequences i deserved for having my dog in aurora." I thought that was innapropriate, considering noone deserves borderline animal cruelty. Not the owner and definitely not the pet!! Next I asked if my dog could go to the bathroom considering she was the only one with feces and such in her cage. The guy I was talking to brought the supervisor in (not the nicest lady), she then informed me that since my dogs breed was a Pitbull mix, "that it was not mandatory to let the dog out in order to go to the bathroom and that it was perfectly fine for her to go in her cage." Both people I talked to were flat out rude, didn't seem to care - meanwhile I am just about in tears the whole time.

I hung around for about 30 mins more and petted my dog from under the cage. I also talked to the staff who walked and fed the dogs, one lady told me she almost couldn't work there anymore somedays because it made her so sad to see the way the Pitbulls were treated. Not to mention they were told not to take the Pitbulls out at all.
Also, they do not allow Pitbull Rescue places to get the dog in the event that you cannot afford the fines your dog is euthanized. Overall it was just not a pleasant place. Those poor animals. Especially the Pittie's no animal deserves to be in such a cruel, cruel place.

Presumptuous governmental agency -- taking family dogs away from owners who have had the animals for 10+ years -- is NOT using common sense.

I only give it 1 star because you have to choose something. These people are IDIOTS. No other way to say it. They take a dog from a family that has had it for 10 YEARS with no issues of aggressive behavior, because their IDIOT employees "THINK" it "LOOKS" like it "MIGHT" be part "WOLF". They really have no business being in this business. I was looking to maybe adopt a dog there, but not now. And that is a shame, because now other dogs that need homes won't get one because the shelter people are IDIOTS!!

This place is filled with sociopaths who live to murder animals. They are evil to the core and enjoy hearing about children crying themselves to sleep at night because their pet was ripped from their arms and murdered. If there is a hell, these people are demons from the deepest darkest depths, not human.
