Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
While at UAB, Dr. Summerford received several awards including The International Congress of Oral Implantologists Pre-doctoral Achievement Award, Excellence in Prosthodontics Award, and American Academy of Orofacial Pain Award. He also participated in the work study program in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UAB where he received extra training in oral surgery.
Maxillofacial Surgery
Tooth Extractions
If you are experiencing problems with your wisdom teeth, it may be a good idea to have them extracted. Prior to your wisdom tooth extraction, a local anesthetic will be applied. Depending on your preferences, we also have sedation dentistry available which can provide a more relaxed experience. During your wisdom teeth extraction, we may have to cut your gums or bone to remove the entire tooth properly. Once completed, the area may be stitched closed to ensure quick healing. After a few days, your stitches should fully dissolve. For more complex wisdom teeth cases, we may refer you to an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon for treatment.
