I went online to see who was your headliner for the July 5th because I had friends and family in from out of town. While I was online I began to read all the horrible reviews UCC was receiving regarding their customer service, quality of food and drinks, and the two item minimum misunderstandings. Since reading all these terrible reviews and having about 10 people going with me, I wanted to call ahead and make sure things had changed and that there would not be any misunderstands. I informed the young lady who answered that I was wanting to purchase tickets for full price as not to have my guests harassed or forced to purchase a 2 items, as customers with FREE tickets. She first said that if I purchase tickets then I would not have a 2 item minimum. I asked her the total cost of tickets and what would be included. She said it only covered the entrance into the club, and I said that would be fine. I just don't want my guests hassled over purchases if I pay for us to get in. She then said they would have to buy 2 items. I asked again to clarify. I said I would be paying full price for 10 people, which is $25 to $35 per person, and you think you still forcing us to buy drinks just like others who got in on FREE tickets? She said yes and I said I might as well get the free tickets then, then she started to get rude and sarcastic, saying you can try and that she don't believe UCC getting bad reviews. I told her she needs to go online cause there were many, and that I can get free tickets from Creative Loafing or the radio station and I knew a couple of comedians who performed there and has free tickets. She said I know an awful lot not to work at the club. At that point I reliezed that if the phone service was that bad then the customer service inside the club would probably be just as bad or worst. Too bad your venue has to miss out on upfront guaranteed $350 but I work for a AT&T which prides itself on customer service, and I will be damned if I am going to spend that type of money for bad and rude customer service... Why do Black establishments always think it is ok to treat their customers to bad service and think people are going to continue to come back.

My husband and I went to UCC for the first time on a Wednesday night. We received free ticketes from FSO. The ticket says to arrive 30 min prior to the show starting. We arrived about 15 min prior and we were still able to find good parking right behind the valet lot. There was a line, but it moved pretty fast and we were told to pick a seat in the VIP area. There were plenty of tables to pick from. The host Lavar Walker and the main act Red Grant were hillarious. I laughed more than I expected to. The only thing I didn't like was that they want you to buy 2 things from the menu. I would've been okay with that had I known before hand, but there was nothing menitoned about it on my ticket. I really thought I was getting free tickets and that I had an option to buy food/drinks if I wanted. I do realize though that they have to make their money somehow so I wasn't too upset about it. Next time I go though I will be prepared for that. Overall, I had so much fun that I wasn't even worried about having to buy food. I will go back when I get some more ""free tickets""

Here is a summary of issues we have had since being signed up with the services from City Search.
Dishonest about how services are billed.
-I was given a different impression of how the site operates after talking to the citysearch employee for over 2 hours. I was given the impression that the site made income from adds placed by larger companies in the form of banner adds or featured sections. I have been involved with several different sites and they offer free advertisements and paid advertisements if you want a banner or bigger adds.
-Their was about 1-2 hours of conversation before the signup agreement where there was no mention of the service costing anything. Then during the signup process I was abruptly asked for my credit card information and was told the service would be $10/month, which is no problem, ""with an investment of $1000/month."" That's when I immediately stated that I can't afford this. Instead of looking out for the interest of me the customer, she was more intent on making a sale. She then replied that it is only a limit. She stated that ""it is $1000 at a dollar a click, but if 1000 people contact you then it's worth every dollar."" This statement would further imply that $1=1 contact. I at this point was under the understanding that the ""Click"" that was discussed earlier was in reference to clicking the link for contact information.. With this in conjunction of the possible number of people in Portland looking for a makeup artist for a wedding, I was under the impression I would be looking at $20-$50 a month. In actuality the service entails $1 per profile view not a dollar per click. If this was described and explained correctly I would have under no circumstances signed up for City Search. Not only is the explanation blatantly confusing but also borders dishonest. I would like to add that after finding out how services were billed I immediately attempted to terminate the service. Given the circumstances an exception could have been made for an early termination of services.
The profile itself was incomplete and poorly constructed.
-The profile was put together with very little care being a victim of numerous grammatical errors and obvious misspellings. Not only is this unacceptable especially for an add company but makes my business look careless and incompetent.
-Second I was also listed more than once, one of which was under the wrong category. there was one profile listed under Cosmetics which was correct, but another profile listed under Hair Salons. I am not a salon and have nothing to do with hair which should have been pretty apparent during the 2 hour phone conversation with the person signing me up. I signed up for one listing under Cosmetics. This looks like nothing more than a tactic to rack up profile views at a dollar a click especially when comparing the number of people looking for a makeup artist for their wedding with the number of people looking for a place to get their hair cut.
Out of the $1600.00+ that was charged to our business card for the over 1900 clicks we had in that 3 month period we were contacted by a total of 2 people. There is no way that many actual people clicked on that page.
Simply on an added note, In an attempt to sort all of this out, I had my significant other and partner in the business Jonathan call and try to work everything out. The gentlemen that he spoke to in customer service was not only uncompassionate of our situation but also very unprofessional. Very few questions were asked pertaining to how he could help and upon seeing that things were far from getting resolved he asked to speak to a supervisor. He was flat out told no. He than had to pry to find out who he could talk to for help. He then had to ask there isn't any one else to talk to? No supervisor or manager? at that point he was then told after a long pause simply they're in a meeting.

We had a great time. Can't believe all the trifflin' reviews. I got free tickets. Right on the ticket it said ""two item minimum"" . I have been to comedy clubs in NY and LA and they ALL have a two item minimum. What do you want? To get in free and buy nothing? Broke AZZ go kill yourself. I had a great time and would be happy to buy tickets next time and I am planning to so I can see Paul Mooney. Out of all the comedy clubs I have been to this is the best cause it's OURS. Not some club that just does black acts to get our money. The line is LONGGGG cause it's the place to be. Don't worry Uptown we will all be back just keep the comedy comin'.

the free tickets that were offered is a joke. Once you go in, you have to purchase two items equal to 20 each, Oh and not to mention the automatic 15% gratuity! NO customer service because they get a tip anyway! THe comics were good, but the service was distracting. We left do to poor service BTW, water costs $7! food sucks..It was a horrible experience. I will not be back!

I WENT HERE FOR MY 21ST BDAY back in may 09 and OMG lol I went by myself bc my boyfriend is in KS and I just moved to ATL so I didnt know anyone and I wanted to get out. First off when you walk in the door the security was looking at me like I was retarded. The host TOLD me to go sit in VIP so I did...but I couldnt see so I moved to the middle area and she came over there trying to yell at me like she was my mama saying YOU CANT SIT HERE YOU ONLY HAVE 1 PERSON, its a nicer way to say stuff and she didnt use the nice way but I got up anyway and moved to the tables against the wall in the back but I coiuldnt see anything so I went back to VIP and she gonna stop me and tell me that I cant move nomore I need to make up my mind I almost cursed her out but I didnt. They are very very very very rude there and have no respect. I never felt so uncomfortable in my life. And it took the waitress forever to bring me my drinks and they were not even good. But the show was good but I would not go back customer service ruined everything.

I've been to the comedy club in the past and the experience was not the best but I wanted to give them another chance. In the past they started late, didn't bring your drinks and food out to the show was almost over and the wait staff was never around. I was excited about going to the comedy club for a birthday party this time. We purchased our tickets in advance, thinking we were going to end the night with a good laugh. Well, I must say that I have never been treated so poorly at any establishment. When it comes to hanging out, my friends and I are very calm and down to earth. We are not demanding and we just try to make the best of any situation. When we arrived there was a long line but we soon discovered that the place was empty. The show was to start at 10:30 and we arrived at 10:45 and they still had people standing outside. That should have been our first sign that this was going to be a terrible experience. When we made it into the club, there were several tables available. The so called hostess wanted to sit us in the corner where we could not see the stage. We asked for a table that was more visible to the stage and she stated she had to sit us in order. She continued to roll her head and ""curse"" about us not wanting to sit in the corner. Please keep in mind that they did not have a full house and there were at least 15 empty tables available. As she was sitting another couple I notice they pointed to a different table than she was directing them to and she allowed them to sit. I kindly asked her why she was giving us a problem about were to sit. She then stated, with an attitude that we could sit at a table that we were standing near. By the time we sat down it's now 11:00 and still no show. We were very surprised to find that security was sent to our table. Well, not sure if I should say security guard or just another employee with a bad attitude. He came over and stated that we had to move over to the corner seat or leave and they would give us a refund. We first asked to see the manager and he stated he was the manger (liar on top of everything else). We gladly stated that we would prefer to leave because the experience with the hostess had already turned us off to any entertainment and we did not want to cause any trouble. When we got up front the so called security guy took our receipts and went in the back. When he came back with the “manager"" or so he say. We explained the situation to the manager and he stated he was going to give us a refund. We were relieved and awaiting to soon discover that he was a LIAR as well. The ""manager"" came back out and stated that he would not give us a refund because there were several empty tables in the house. We decided to leave without the refund because it was not worth the hassle and obviously they all were unprofessional. The bottom line is I’ve never had such a terrible experience like this in my life. It's very sad to see that some African American, managed or owned establishments still do not know how to service people. I can honestly speak for myself and friends and say they will NEVER get my business again. I would highly recommend that Uptown hire and train professional staff if they expect to be in business for a long time. With this kind of service they will not survive.

I visited Uptown for the third time this year, I agree parking is an issue. But there is free parking up the block. The comedians were very funny. All employees were friendly including security. The two item minimum is something different but hey we only paid 20 dollars this time and recieved free tickets both times before that, I realize they have to make money somewhere. I went to Katt Williams at the civic center a couple of months ago paid 80 per ticket and 30 to park. Now that was a rip off. I enjoy comedy. I have tried other venues and quality per dollar uptown is by far the best. My service was excellent no complaints from me or my guest. We will return and recommend it highly to everyone!!!!

Ok after reading everyone's review I had to weigh in on UCC. I have visited at least 10-15 times and have never paid...DON'T PAY...wait to get the free tickets...they give them out very freely.
The two item mininum that's a joke...are they a comedy club or strip club. This past saturday I was there I was told by a waitress they only serve bottled water for $2.75 and use the soda for alcoholic beverages. My friend asked what about people who do not drink alcohol and was told get water. It was the Nestle Pure Life waters...those you can get a pack of for like $3.99. What a ripoff. When I went on wed. my friend let the manager know what happened the previous visit and she gets the waitress whom apologized all the while laughing in our faces saying it was a mistake. Another friend ordered 2 beers and paid almost $20...what's up with that????
As for parking, if you do not mind walking a block then park down the street...it's free. Eat and drink before you go or else they will get you everytime. My experiences have not been all that bad, but they haven't been anything grand either. I will continue to go there and enjoy the shows, but I now bring $5 cash and concsider it to be my cover.
Overall if you don't expect much then you won't be disappointed.

This is my 4th time going and this time it was so bad I had to write a review. 1st warning: if any of you think you have won or received ""free"" tickets-think again. I'm not going to go over what others have said-it's very annoying to have to pay so much money for parking and then pay $3 for a bottle of water and have to do the stupid 2 item minimum. I went 2 Saturday nights ago because I received a call saying I won 20 free tickets and could invite people. I invited 20 and faxed the list in. When my people arrived we were not allowed to sit together even when we were all there. There is NO reserved seating even if you sign up in advance. I spelt one of my friends wrong on the list and even after I tried to explain that to the woman in the booth-she refused to let him in because his name was different on paper vs. his driver's license! A few of us were determined not to waste our money there so we paid the $5 minimum and called it a night. The waitress was rude with us because she wasn't getting a tip and the floor people were rude and yelled at us becaus we had a large group. It may seem like ""oh-it's only 2 items"" but trust me-it adds up. I prefer to just pay the $5 to avoid that. I was planning on having my birthday party here but after this experience I refuse to put my guests thru this again. The show is funny-we all laughed a lot and had fun, but you get treated bad. It's sad how badly black folks treat each other because they know they can get away with it because we don't have other good comedy shows here. Also-beware-the comedians have extreme pottymouths! I will probably go again just to have fun, but will park on the side road (the one before you get to the club) only go on a free Wednesday night or when I get free tickets again, and eat before I get there and pay $5. I consider that to be my cover charge!

ARRIVED ON A WEDSDAY ,EXPECTED BETTER SERVICE DUE TO NOT BEING SO CROWDED,BUT NEVER THE LESS, BEFORE I COULD ENTER ,THE WOMAN AT TICKET COUNTER(INSIDE THE BOOTH) HAD A TERRIBLE ATTITUDE,RUDE ,AND IMPATIENT . WAS TOLD THE 1ST 50 PEOPLE WOULD GET A STEAK DINNER- NO STEAK DINNER WAS SERVED.BOUGHT FOOD AND DRINKS OFF THE MENU AND PAID CASH DUE TO BEING AFRAID TO GIVE MY CREDIT CARD TO ANYONE. UNFORTUNATELY I GAVE THE WAITER CASH . THE WAITER DIDN' T RETURN WITH MY CHANGE, SO WHEN HE FINALLY PASSED BY MY TABLE I ASKED , WHERE IS MY CHANGE? HE REPLIED,YOU ONLY GAVE ME 50 BUCKS. I TOLD HIM I GAVE YOU 60 DOLLARS AND HE DISAGREED. I ASK TO SPEAK WITH THE MANAGER. THE MANAGER SIDED WITH WAITER. NOW, THE BILL AND THE TIP CAME UP TO 45 DOLLARS (THEY AUTOMATICALLY PUT THE TIP IN THE BILL); SO I SHOULD HAVE GOT 15 DOLLARS BACK . THE MANAGER CAME BACK TO TABLE AND SAID, I COULD GIVE YOU 4 DOLLARS BACK. WHILE ALL OF THIS IS GOING ON MY GUESTS AND I MISSED ALOT OF SHOW; ESPECIALLY THE MAIN ACT.

I was ""ify"" about going after reading some of the reviews, but we decided to go anyway and I'm glad we did! This was the best time out I've had in a long time. The price of the food wasn't that bad it was like any restaurant...$3.99-$11.99. The staff was great, friendly, and if you've never been...GO!

Firstly, let me say that I've read the reviews and was very excited about my first Uptown experience, as Benji Brown was the featured comedian for the night! I purchased tickets for me and my beau online just to ensure we would be able to see the show... (my last splurge before friday's check I might add!) My beau picked up something nice for me to wear to the club and I went and got my hair done. Finally, we're on the road! My excitement had reached it's peak when I saw ""Marietta St"", only to come to a screeching hault when we arrived at the club; an OVER-CROWDED venue with a line down the block on BOTH SIDES of the door! We turn into a jam packed parking lot just to find that we have to pay $15 to a RUDE parking attendant, that said our ""general seating"" tickets will not be honored because VIP seating is top priority. When we asked him if we could speak to someone at the club, he said we still had to pay $15 to ask a question! You expect me to wait in a LONG line when its 90 degrees outside, pay for parking that I may not need, and argue about tickets that I've purchased in advance? What's the point of being able to purchase advance tickets online, if when you get there they've sold your seat to someone else?? They're ripping people off! I wouldn't be surprised if they told me I couldn't get my money back! The only way to get in contact with them is by leaving a message on the business phone, so you can kiss your hard earned cash GOOD-BYE! I will not go back to Uptown Comedy Club no matter whose performing. Trust me, I know taste and it is poorly managed, and unorganized.

Some friends and I decided to go to the Comedy Clud to enjoy my birthday. We arrived early so that we could get good seat as suggested by ""Sunshine"" that works at uptown comedy. Once inside of the club, we were headed towards the floor to get a table close up, when a female employee asked me how many was in our party and told us to go to the VIP section. I was beginning to feel ""special"" due to this treatment UNTIL about 35 minutes later and after the show had started. We were asked to move to another location and told that ""a table will be set-up for us"". I explained that there were not anymore seats left and I also told them that we did not want to come to the VIP section; yet, we were TOLD to sit in the area. A male server, claiming to be the manager, then told us that we would need to pay $30.00 to sit at that table. We again told him that we arrived early to get good seats and now, after the show has started, we are told to move. The server/manager then went to get the security guard. The security guard confirmed that they were allowing some people to sit in VIP; however the VIP area is now needed for someone else. This was devastating to us, considereing the fact that we had already paid and had done nothing wrong. WE left the club and will never go back again. How does a radio station such as V-103 support a business such as this that is rude to paying, hard-working, people of color. HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT!!!!!!!!! I hope they get their JUST DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
