Cell phone stolen from table

I was so excited to try a new restaurant and love Greek food. So many signs pointed to what was to be the worst restaurant experience I've had in Atlanta. The bartender was gratuitously rude as we waited to be seated. We asked to see a drink list and he turned his back. Asked a couple minutes later assuming he didn't hear and his response: you'll get a menu when you get a menu.

We ordered the family style meal and it was not nearly enough food for 7 people. Definitely overpriced for the quality too. Three bites of hummus, 2 meat skewers, 2 bites of dessert for $25??

I left my iPhone on the table when leaving the restaurant (that was MY mistake). But I'm positive someone from the restaurant took it. We went back, asked around...nothing. I was able to track the phone and found it at an apartment complex near the restaurant and went to the manager with this information, who wasn't at all helpful. I've worked in customer service and dined at a range of places and never been treated this way.

The belly dancers and Greek vibes/dancing are fun and a bit touristy, but spend your money elsewhere. Atlanta & surrounding areas have too many good restaurants.

Service was TERRIBLE!!!!!!

We anticipated a great food experience. The only thing enjoyable was the atmostphere and entertainment.
We ordered the Chef's meal which was extremely over priced for the amount of food you get. It's a sampler type meal served family style, and a good variety of dishes, but there were four and us and MAYBE enough for to serve two. The rice might have been ONE serving. If we go back, we will definitely order singles meals off the menu. We left feeling like we had been taken for a ride.
As far as the service, it was absolutely TERRIBLE!!! The table next to us was seated after us, but two groups of customers had come and gone from that table before we even got our desert. We had to keep asking the other waiter to find ours and send him to us, and had to ask for everything to be brought. If we ever go back and we get the same waiter, we will asked to be moved to a different table/server.
If you're not in a hurry and not very hungry, and want to pay more than the meal is worth, give it a try. Otherwise, save your money.

Not the same as it used to be.

In reading the 2009 review a light bulb went off. Change of ownership!! Ah Hah! Finally an explanation. While the menu is the same, the portions and quality are not. As only one example, the gyro platter used to be HUGE, thick juicy portions of meat. Now they are small thin and dry. The steak is overcooked and oversalted. On three recent occasions, we actually had to request the hummus. This used to come to the table as soon as you were seated. Service is sketchy at best. I have been so disappointed the last three times. Now I know why -- new owners. Looks like the May reviewer had a good experience but our July and August visit with out of town guests was not good. They liked the entertainment but not the food. We might give it one more try -- but just one more.

Great food- awesome entertainment- date night!!

SO...Surprised someone hasn't posted a review for Taverna Plaka in awhile...this place is awesome- took a date here and it was really good food (you make the hummus at the table!) and the belly dancing was sweet (good distraction/fun for a 1st date) although it was KINDA loud- suggest maybe sitting on the patio for any intense conversations.

Overall, great experience wanted to share since it didn't look like anyone had posted a review in awhile. WIll definitely be back!

Best Greek in Atlanta

I went there on march 12 with my girlfriend at about 7 for dinner.

The food was very good and memorable. I had the lamb chops and my

girlfriend had the chicken kabobs both tasty. The belly dancer entertaining and the line dance very cool. The server was very energetic and positive

Not sure if we'll go back

After reading, from another reviewer, that this restaurant has recently become newly owned/operated, it may explain the poor experience we had last time we dined at Taverna Plaka. We are always on the search for new, authentic Greek food and have usually been pleased with Taverna Plaka for the past several years. We always take friends/family there, and typically stick to the meze. The service has always been slighty below average, but we overlooked it because of the food quality and fun atmosphere. However, on our last visit in Jan 09, the service and poor quality/value of food served was hard to overlook. Plaka is a great place for large parties on Friday and Saturday nights. Unfortunately, they don't value the patronage of tables under five, and it can turn into a long, frustrating and dissatisfying dining experience. The last time we went the meze portions were minuscule, cold and flavorless. We had to ask several times for the complimentary hummus and bread that is customarily given as soon as your are seated. Drinks were never refilled. Some of the meze we ordered never even came out. Overall, it was a complete let down after years of good food and fun times at Plaka. I realize businesses are hurting from the current economic climate and recession, but this one obvsiously was not. It's extremely poor business to compromise quality and portions, but still charge customers the same amount. If we do decide to go back, it will be a very long time.....

Great Food and Festive Entertainment!!!!

I arranged a surprise party for a group of 30 people and this restaurant was the best choice for the mix of people that attended! They provided great service, with a friendly waitress that was very accomodating to each individuals needs. Not one person at my table had any complaints or mischarges on thier bills. The atmosphere was great for all ages and personalities. The employees and entertainment was very festive and lively. The belly dancers were a great added source of entertainment and were very friendly as well. The food was amazing!!!! Everything was tender and tasteful with ALOT of flavor. We opted for the chef's menu which was fairly priced for the large portions of food that they served us. The drinks were average prices for Atlanta too! Great recommendation for parties or a group of friends that want to have a great time and enjoy some entertainment and delicious food!!!

Best Greek in Atlanta

Love this place! Great for dates or large groups! Food is tasty. Only complaint is you have to valet & it can get really busy so may limit the service

Fantasic Night for a Large Group!

I recently organized a party for forty people in the private room. The manager could not have been more accomodating and helpful. The servers and bartenders were an absolute joy, and the food was delicious. Many guests were unfamiliar with Greek food and had fun mashing their own hummus. The belly dancer also added to the excitement of the night. Many in our group were new to our company, but the family-style service and the overall atmosphere really helped with the bonding experience. Opa!

Won't Go Back

While the food was decent and the restaurant was a fun experience, we nor our friends or family will ever come back. The manager was the most unprofessional mgr at a restaurant that I've ever seen. She tried to start a fight with us because she was stressed out. She has no customer service skills and just a plain ugly attitude. Glass in your food is a problem that needs to be taken care of I'd say. Also, the parking lot is a disaster. I'd say bring your business someplace better like Kyma down the road or Avra.

Great food and service!

Great food and atmosphere!!! It is a lot of fun. Be prepared to dance on the tables. We stayed all night and the music changes and the atmosphere.

Love Plaka!

I went to Plaka for the first time with a group of about six friends. We must have gotten there before peak hours because there was no one else in our seating area but the night crowd started to arrive as we were leaving. Our waiter was very friendly and energetic and all the food was fresh and delicious. Great ambience, fun atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone.

Good food and fun, casual atmosphere. Friendly waitstaff. They have small plates for sharing and large entrees, too. Great for groups, but you may want a reservation on busy nights.

worst experience ever

Food is good, but the service was horrible!! It's a fun place, but the managers were extremely rude! Our waiter was missing for 30 minutes, orders were wrong and we had to pay full gruitity. I will never go back again!!!

Mediocre food and not great service

Very very bad food, everything tasted overcooked or old, the complimentary hummus was ok, but I feel sick nothing was worth comming back from, find another place to eat Greek food. The service was ok. There was a very average belly dancer (my partner used to work for a morrocan restaurant were they really had some amazing belly dancers) but she never came to our table, maybe we didn't look like big tippers!.

Disappointed Before Leaving the House!

Our bad experience happened before we even got to the restaurant. I made reservations this past week at 7:00 as recommended by the lady on the phone. We had 8 people who were going to be there. Right before I left tonight, I called the restaurant to see if they could seat 10 people at our table since another couple decided to join us. They informed me that the reservation was for 9:45, not 7:00. The nighttime manager got on the phone to tell me there was nothing she could do for me...we were out of luck even tho it was their fault. She was not apologetic and was rude. recommendation IF you decide to go there is to call every night to make sure they don't switch YOUR time! I don't think it is worth the drive to get there...we found a much nicer restaurant that was very accomodating and polite!!!

Awful Service

From the beginning of entering the restaurant, my friends and i were greated rudely. The restaurant manager specifically was completely unprofessional and rude. When we were finally seated, the service was awful even though the restaurant was not even that busy. The food was good but it was not worth the awful service or the high prices. I would not recommend this restuarant to anyone. Awful place!!

Varying Experiences

I have been to Taverna Plaka a total of 4 times and have had widely different experiences each time. The first two times I went the experience was great. The food was excellent and so was the service. The third time I went was with a large group for a friend's birthday. My experience that time was absolutely terrible. The waitress was rude and most of the dishes she brought out were incorrect. She gave us two plates of one item when we had only ordered one. She then tried to charge us for the 2nd plate. After much arguing (the waitress actually yelled at us and stormed off), we had a manager come over who wasn't any nicer. That's when the waitress suddenly had an epiphany and remembered that we had not ordered the 2nd plate. She apologized and bought us all drinks as a way of saying ""I'm sorry"" but it was too little too late and we had already turned sour to Taverna Plaka. I went again a few months ago with some friends. The food was excellent as always but once again the service was poor. Our server was moonlighting as a bartender at the same time so he was hardly ever at our table.

I rate this place as average since I've had two good experiences mixed in with two bad experiences.

Went for a Birthday

I went to TP last night for my friend's bday. I had read the reviews on here before and was afraid our service would be bad. I agree that it was sporadic, but our waitress came around pretty often and seemed like she was having a good time. I probably won't go here again, just b/c I could spend less money and have a quiet dinner at a restaurant whose food I like more; but it was for my friend's bday and whatever made her happy was good with me that night. My boyfriend & I are vegetarian, so there wasn't much on the menu for us, but I would recommend the Greek salad. The other reviewer was right on about the red pepper dip - it tasted just like pimento cheese - so in other words, not very good. If you are dining w/ people who enjoy a loud, fun atmosphere, then go here. But if you think your guests would rather have a quiet meal, this is definitely not the place. Plus the food was not all that great for the price. My current favorite restaurant is Fuego off of Crescent, where you can get a much cheaper meal with much more flavor.
