General Info
Max Lager's was one of the first restaurants to bring the fresh and natural wood-fired menu concept to Atlanta. The art of cooking with wood enhances the Max Lager's experience with bold flavors simply not found with alternative cooking methods. We feel that the investment made in the wood-fired grill pays great dividends to our guests. All Max Lager's menu items are prepared daily from scratch. Wood-fired steaks, burgers, seafood, ribs, and pizza are Max Lager's signature items. An inspired selection of entree salads and pastas add variety to the American menu. Max Lager's is the oldest brewpub in Georgia, opening in March 1998. Many of Max Lager's house brewed beers have won major awards including two awards at the Great American Beer Festival in Colorado. Max Lager's offers a full bar, wines, local and national craft beers, with a 32 tap draft system in our upstairs bar highlighting a selection of the best craft beers. If you are looking flavorful food and drinks in a warm and inviting atmosphere - Max Lager's is the place to be! Cheers.

Amazing dinner and service!

I had the pleasure of eating at Max Lager's for the last 2 nights while in Atlanta for a conference. I want to commend the staff who served us tonight, particularly your hostess and our server Jeffery. Both provided incredible service to our party of 7. Jeffery encouraged us to try your ribs, pork chop, fried chicken, BBQ plate and the fantastic fried cheesecake and carmel pecan brownie. He paired our meal perfectly with wine and as Californians we were all impressed. My friends and I remarked that we had the meal of our lives last night. Thank you for the incredible food and service.

Great overall experience!

The whole evening was great. The restaruant was easy to find and had parking in the back. Our group was seated upstairs and had excellent staff waiting on us. Our food arrived quickly and exceeded my expectation. There was a constant aroma of a fireplace in the room. I am writing this review for one reason. I was driving that night and did not have any of their beers. (Although everyone else did in our group.) I ordered a Root Beer with no ice. It arrived in a frosted mug and I was surprised. I was told that they brew their own in house and that it was rather good! Good doesn't come close to describing the taste. It was by far the best I had ever tasted. I am at a loss of words when it comes to describing it. Everyone at my table ended up ordering at least one. Some even ordered Root Beer floats for desert! I wish I had the words to describe it to you. If this Root Beer was a ten on a scale from one to ten... The next best Root Beer I have ever had only rates a five. It is remarkable. I will drive from Ohio to Atlanta to get more, you can be sure. Thanks!

not bad...

I'm usually skeptical of restaurants/bars attached to hotels for whatever reason, but this a decent spot. The homebrews picked up the slack where my meal was just eh. The Hopsplosion was pretty tasty. Wish they weren't out of a few of their other beers though. Apparently that happens a lot. Sad, given how good I think the empty kegs might taste.

Good Beer, Bad Service

I took one my buddies here for his birthday upon the recommendation of others. I had heard a lot of good things about it, but from my experience I couldn't recommend this place to anybody.

The beer was quite tasty. However the service was so poor that it simply does not make up for it. The bartender insulted our group and was not very timely at all. To top it all off, after he didn't receive the tip he thought he ""deserved"" he came after our group a 1/4 of a mile down the street.....

There are a lot of options to stop in for good beer in the downtown area. This should not be one of them.

Great group dinner experience

The staff and service were exceptional. Our group event was wonderful at Max Lager's. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The food and local-brewed beer was excelent. A great place to go with a group or just with a few friends.

Awsome Dining Experience!

My family and I had such an enjoyable evening at this resturant. The atmosphere is a mix of a laid back and casual coupled with fine dining; beautiful lighting in the evening. The food is fresh and perfectly seasoned. The wait time was perfect in between courses. The staff was friendly and seemed to enjoy their work. It has been so long since my family and I had a dining experience like this one. If you are going out to eat, you have to go here. The food was so good, I cannot describe it, you have to go for yourself. Next time I'm in Atlanta, I will be dining at Max Lagers. I recommend trying the fried cheesecake.

Beer Pairings offer unique experience

With all of the dining options available to visitors of Atlanta, Downtown is often overlooked. However, if you want to drink some quality microbrews and dine on continental offerings with a Southern flare, Max Lager’s is the place. You can park across the street at a discounted rate (Inquire with staff). The décor is industrial and cheery. I enjoyed a meal at the bar. The bartender was courteous and knowledgeable. It was a chilly December afternoon, so I started with a cup of Gumbo and a Gold Lager. The Gumbo warmed me with its flavors and healthy chunks of chicken & sausage. The lager balanced with it well. The bartender informed me of the days lunch special and did little else to influence my decision. The Beef Brisket Tacos sounded too good to pass up. Ronnie, the bartender, suggested a Brown Ale to go with the tacos. Again, another good call. The tacos were served with a side of corn salsa and green chili sauce. For dessert, I enjoyed a Max Abbey. It was flavorful and delicious with a hint of sweetness at the finish. Insofar as exceeding my expectations, I would have to give this experience “Two Thumbs Up!”

Fish taco and more!!!

I frequent the downtown restaurants as I work and live in the area. Max Lagers always provides a solid answer to my hunger. Yesterday I was in for the first time since the holidays and they had an awesome fish soft taco made with mahi mahi. I couldn't finish it all, it was massive and was really, really good. It was a special and I am writing this review to let them know to put it on the menu permanently!!! thanks guys for doing a great job. See you very soon!

Amazing Staff

I go to Max Lager's every time I am in town for the mart .
I love the Texan steak and the Max Black Beer.
I happen to have been there on Sunday night and I can say that it was extremely busy.
I have met the manager Bill several times and he has always made time time to spend a moment talking to me.He and his staff do a wonderful job everytime I am In the restaurant.
Rena, does a great job at the bar and I always feel welcome, No matter who is working.
I am always asked when I turn in my reciepts why I go to the same place everynight to eat?
They have great food, good beer and Great people.
Everyone and place has a bad day, it seems folks always take time to write the bad review, yet have little time to give a good one.
I myself have been to the restaurant more than once and rarely do I see them fail.
Thank you and keep up the good work.

I'm STILL hungry

UNBELIEVABLE! How can a restaurant run out of 75% of its menu items??!!! No pizza, no pasta, no fish, no ribs. NO PIZZA! Granted, it was 9pm on a Sunday night (we waited for an hour and a half even though we called ahead; and during that time, no one mentioned that the kitchen had been all but wiped out), but you're in the downtown area of a major convention city... You have to be prepared for big crowds, right? Guess not. Most of the servers did their best under the circumstances, but the manager - when we complained about the situation - was kind of rude: ""What do you want me to do about it?"" Oh, and one person at our table ordered the Bison Burger & another ordered a regular hamburger... they said they tasted exactly the same. And yes, the beers were flat.

Nothing available on the menu.

I went to there with 10 work colleagues from both New York and Chicago. We waited 90 minutes, although we had reservations and drank the beer that was agreed by all to be flat. This place was out everything - pizza dough, so no pizza, no pasta primavera, no salmon, no ribs, no guacamole for quesadillas, no sirloin steak, and I'm sure there were others. What a disappointment because we went there for the wood fired pizza touted by their logo and slogan. I would NEVER go back there again, sorry.

Not Bad, But Not Impressed

I had a steak dinner, and a friend had salmon in early January, 2009 while in Atlanta for training. The atmosphere was okay, but the meal was unimpressive. The food reminded me of a small eatery in any small town you might run across: it was palatable. However, given the many great choices in downtown Atlanta, I can't recommend this one.

So much fun!

My husband and I love this place. It is one of Atlanta's best kept secrets! If you are looking for a fun time at dinner or a great movie watching experience this place has it all.

Great Place to meet Friends

I have been coming to Max intermittently for many years and I would probably best categorize it as ""upscale comfort food."" The decor and frankly, most of the menu, are pretty forgettable, but for me, it's all about the service.

Every time we come here it feels like going to visit a friend. All the wait staff knows us and they are always accommodating - not JUST to us, but I see it with everyone they serve.

Great place to meet friends, but I wouldn't really recommend it for a date restaurant because, well - REALLY, it's a neighborhood joint. If my date was that cheap, then there 'aint gonna BE a second date, y'know what I'm sayin'?

Oh yeah, and I'm also rating this place high for the fact that every time I eat here I get so incredibly stuffed I feel like a cow when leaving, yet miraculously wake up the next morning feeling as skinny as a supermodel. Coincidence? I think not.

Don't knock it till you try it.

Look, I go to Max Lagers at least once a week because I work downtown and would consider it one of my favorite places to go around Downtown Atlanta. Maybe this guy's server was just having a bad day, but as often as I go, the service has been consistently good and the food is very good. I usually sit up at the bar for lunch, but my coworkers and I have gone to Max Lagers for happy hour too because they have great beers and the food is good. I hate bad service just as much as anyone else, and wouldn't go to Max Lager's as often as I do if the service wasn't consistently good. Judge it for yourself, but coming from a regular, I love this place.

Worst service

This has to have been the worst service i have had in a very long time.I was in town for work and stayed at the hyatt and saw this place and thought to check it out,BIG MISTAKE.I first order a drink called a max margarita it was an average drink tasted like a margarita. Then i waitied for my server who kept walking by but did'nt ask if i was ready to order,I finally got her to come take my order 10 wings as a starter and the ribs as my entree, also asked for some bread with my meal because i saw other tables with some on there tables.I never got the bread, wings came with my meal about 35-40 minutes later the server never said sorry or try to make things better.she acted like she just wanted to get me out of there.ALL in all my food got cold the wings were under cooked still a little pink in the middle. The staff did'nt seem friendly and the decor is like eating in a very old warehouse. If your every in atlanta aviod this place,I asked i local if he every goes to max lagers,he said that he and friends had a bad time there about 6months ago and would not return.

Perfect Place for Rehearsal Dinner

Thank you Max Lager's for being so accommodating for our rehearsal dinner on June 20th! We had more people show up than expected and the staff did the most wonderful job taking care of us and were so pleasant throughout the entire night (even when we were being difficult). Every single guest loved Max Lager's from the food to atmosphere. It was truly perfect for Brad and me.
We'll definitely be back and want to let everyone know what a great experience we had.

Great food & Service

I was in Atlanta for business recently. I was staying at the Hyatt near Max Lagers and saw their ad in the Delta inflight magazine. Myself and my coworker ate there three nights in a row. I am a very picky restaurant goer and was very impressed with the quality of food and the level of service that we received from your servers, especially Lisa. I will be sure to visit Max Lagers next time I'm in Atlanta. I have friends in the ATL metro area and will be sure to tell them about Max Lager's. Keep up the good work.
