Beautiful salon with expert stylists in healthy hair. I have longer hair and even though they're known for their short cuts and styles, they've kept my hair growing healthy for 2 years. In and out services with no double booking. Love this place!
Like The River was awesome! Cheryl Sarten was my stylist and she was absolutely wonderful. I love my haircut and style without the use of spritz!!!! I am currently living in Columbus, Ga but will make the trip to Atlanta just for the wonderful service I recieved at Like The River Salon. Fabulous!!!!
I recently moved from Chicago to ATL. A friend referred me to Cheryl. Best referral ever! I have short hair and don't trust anyone to cut my hair but I took a chance with Cheryl. She gave me everything I wanted and the products they use are of very high quality. Every product they use, they sell so that you can maintain your style at home. They are a bit pricey but its worth the money.

I saw some pictures from Like the River Salon on facebook and I decided I would try this salon out as I was in the market for a good hairstylist. I really liked the pictures of Najah's work, but since she didn't have any appointments for months to come, I decided on Shannon as she appeared to have good work as well. Mistake #1, I should have just waited.
I initially went into the salon for a wash and trim; however, I decided at the spur of the moment that my hair really didn't have much of a shape, so I wanted it cut into a bob. What a mistake that was. I take full responsibility for getting my hair cut by a stylist that I wasn't familiar with. I should've waited to assess her work based on my normal hair length.
My service was completed back in June, and I say that to say, that I waited about three months to determine whether I was really pissed off about the hair cut itself or the length that she cut it at. I'm confirmed that I hate both and it was the worst decision I've made this summer.
First of all she never even asked what kind of a bob I wanted. She just assumed that I wanted an elevated bob (short in the back gradually increasing in length on the sides). I didn't! In fact I wanted a blunt cut bob with the same length on all sides. She would've known this had she asked me instead of just chopping into my hair. To put this review in perspective my hair was just below my shoulders in the back. She cut it up to my ear! Who the hell does that without knowing the customer or having had conducted a proper consultation. I think she sensed that I was unhappy, because after it was all said and done she asked me ""Did I cut it to short?"" I'm sure she knew it was too short. It took all I had not to cuss her out or behave ignorantly. But to say I hated her after my hair was done is definitely putting it midly.
Needless to say, I walked out with a horrible old school bob that I hated. I immediately got a sew in since I couldn't stand the sight of it. Nevertheless, I'm stuck with this cut and everytime I look at it, I get pissed off over again. I take the responsibility for deciding on a hair cut with a stylist that I didn't really know, but based on the reviews I thought that this was a professional establishment that conducted real consultations before servicing customers.
I won't be visiting this place EVER again, and furtherrmore, please make sure you are specific with what you want. Don't leave it up to Shannon to be professional.

I have short relaxed hair that gets very very dry and due to a bad relaxer job from a previous stylist my hair was even more dry! Keisha gave me alot of good info on how to moisturize my hair and my hair is sooo soft, she listened to my concerns and she did a very good job on my hair. It looks so healthy and shiny!

A+++ is the Grade we gave “Like the River The Salon”.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this Salon.
I just recently relocate to the Downtown Atlanta Area and was in search of a Hair Salon to call home. I am a business professional who pride myself in giving impeccable customer service to my clients. I was in search of a Salon that would also provide me impeccable hair care service. I found what I have been searching for in a Hair Salon at “Like the River Salon. The Ideal Experience …..If you are well aware in advance of the cost, time you want to spend and the type of surrounding that will be most advantageous for you, you’re on your way to finding the right hair salon. The initial call to the salon to schedule an appointment was very warm and receptive, Maryam Aziz did an exceptional job scheduling myself and my daughter who was home visiting from college. Keisha and Ty (Master Stylists), both were very professional and knowledgeable of what we needed to achieve the ultimate “Healthy Hair” result. Keisha asked questions and gave her expert suggestions; she listened to what I desired. Ty, my daughter is still talking about her hair. We both have received so many compliments. Walking into the Salon just felt right, wonderful ambiance and a relaxing environment with stylists who were dressed stylish and professional. The décor was warm and inviting. Great music..**What was incredible was the fact that my daughter , who had a full perm-touch up and trim and I, whom had a shampoo and style and color enhancement, were BOTH in at 12:30pm and out by 3:00PM , UNBELIEVABLE** We both were SO Satisfied and the look was FABULOUS with HEALTHY LOOKING HAIRSTYLES. AMAZING!!!! The diverse magazines were very informative I especially like the “Piedmont Review”. The fruit punch beverage was delicious.:-)) “All” the Stylists were servicing their prospective clients and that in it’s self was refreshing to observe. The Restroom was clean and spa like, LOVE the CANDLE. The owner Naja Aziz, was very pleasant to talk with and I admire the fact that she is running a “Professional Establishment” and it’s just how Salons should be operating, like a “ Business” servicing the clients need in a positive environment. NOT sitting 5 or more hours after a long work day or busy personal schedule. I visited several other hair salons in the Downtown/Midtown Atlanta area before visiting “Like The River The Salon”. WE really ENJOYED our first experience and will now become regular clients. I called the Salon on a Friday afternoon after viewing their website the night before; I was very impress with the Creativity of the professional website site. The website was easy to navigate around and it was loaded with tons of photos of the Salon clients. I was impressed with the articles of how the salon gave back to not just one community service, but several community organizations geared to women issues. GREAT!!!!!! I look forward to an enjoyable relationship with the Salon and its Staff. Thank you ladies for being on TOP OF YOUR GAME…LOVE IT.
Ms. Sassy B and Daughter.

After visiting this salon, I realized how dysfunctional many hair salons are! It is NOT normal to sit in a salon for upwards of 6 to 8 hours to get your hair done. For many years, I thought that this was the ""norm"" among African American hair salons. Maybe I'm the only one (though I STRONGLY doubt it) that has experienced long waits and less than professional behavior in hair salons. But LIKE THE RIVER has raised the bar for ALL salons everywhere!
The ENVIRONMENT is professional yet warm and inviting; the staff is friendly and knowledgeable; and the receptionist is very nice and accommodating.
The WORK is amazing! I love my hair every single time that I leave. I am very pleased with the results. My stylist is Kiesha and she is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and nice. However, I have yet to see work from any stylist that was less than impressive.
I have a very short cut, but I have seen AMAZING styles leave that salon. Everything from flowing, bouncy long hair, to slick, well manicured locs and twists. They do it ALL!!
I HIGHLY recommend this salon especially if you are looking for a salon with stylists that are versatile, knowledgeable and professional.

I've been patronizing this salon since mid November (2010) and have been both excited and very pleased after each visit. Cheryl usually does my relaxers and color - Fab results! Najah is a stylist worth every rave she receives. Her cutting and styling vision is impeccable. Maryum is a sweetheart and keeps me on schedule by confirming the day before. The salon is clean, professional, tranquil, aesthetically pleasing and welcoming without being stuffy. I've been reluctant to write a review because my stylist is already booked months in advance, but putting selfishness aside :-) I'm sharing for all those who may be searching for a great salon with sound practices and quality results. Also, although I've only booked with Najah I've observed the end results and client interactions of other stylists and feel comfortable recommending Cheryl, Kiesha, and Dedra for those with more immediate needs. I am quite certain that the others are outstanding as well; but as blessed as it is, I'm not left waiting long enough to see the others in action. I hope this helps!

This salon is by far the best in atlanta. They care for the health of your hair not just styling. Its a very clean and productive atmosphere. Most of the atlanta hair dressers pride themselves based on celebrity clientele not skills but this salon does WORK! I recommend booking your appt with Nija. Even if your hair is damaged she will bring you back to life! TRUST ME! Have a blessed day and good luck!

This is by far the best salon that I've ever utilized. Najah's skills and professionalism are unsurpassed. I recently went from slightly below the shoulder length hair to Halle Berry short. Najah consulted with me, looked at pictures that I brought, and came up with the perfect cut. I was slightly nervous about such an extreme change but she exercised the patience of ""Job"" and before I knew it, I was glammed out. She even walked me through the entire maintenance and styling process step by step. While I can't say enough about Najah, I also want to commend the entire salon staff. When you walk in the door, you experience nothing but the best from beginning to end.

Omg, my experience at Like The River Salon, was all that I thought it would be and more. For starters, I was pleasantly greeted by the receptionist who also happened to serve as my human navigator as she gave me perfect directions to the salons convenient midtown location on Highland Ave. I immediately took comfort in the salons serene, tranquil, yet inviting ambiance. Then, after only a few short minutes, I received a warm embrace by non-other than the shops owner, Najah Aziz (who by-the-way, was the stylist that had been recommended to me by Kiara Akita.) She was so friendly and personable, I felt as if we had already met somewhere prior. Well, shortly thereafter, I was offered a variety of breakfast pastries, desserts, and beverages which was great considering I had been rushing out the house that morning for my appointment; thus I didn't quite have the time to stop and grab a bite to eat. This was very thoughtful and well recieved; needless to say, I induldge!!!
Moments later, I began on the first step of my hair process, the relaxer. Cheryl, Najah's assistant, took great care of this step. Our conversation was light, but memorable. Cheryl is a stylist/singer from Chicago who loves experimenting with diffrent hair styles and colors which, in my opinion, she happens to wear very well. Oh and did I mention that I was given a FREE color rinse!!! Yeah, because I didn't come prepared to pay for this addition and it was highly needed, Najah did not hesistate to ""keep it real"" with me. She politley said: ""this one is on the house."" I gasped. She continued: ""I can't have you leaving out of there looking all dusty."" (LOLOLOL) I laughed. Now to some people this may sound offensive, but when you're as real as I am, this was something only a caring friend would say to another caring friend; thus I deeply respected Najah for her blunt honestly and gratefully took her up on her suggestion. Now once at the shampoo bowl, man oh man, did Cheryl do me justice. I nearly fell asleep as she thoroughly massaged my itchy scalp, I didn't want this particular step to end.....
After coming from up under the dryer, it was time for Najah to work her magic! I loved the fact that she and the rest of her collegues don't use your typical marcels when curling your hair. Instead, they all use an assortment of Chi Irons, ranging from cute petite to the well needed large. I, myself, prefer the Chi Irons because from my own personal use of them, I like the fact that the heat is evenly distributed throughout the entire iron; unlike with the marcels which have been known to burn your hair completely out when overheated. Ugh!
Finally, after Najah had educated me on hair care maintenance and encouraged me to step outside of my normal (safe)hairstyle box- she spun me around to see her creation..... I nearly came to tears. My hair was not only jet black, soft and managable, but it was also beautiful and still so ME. I walked away renewed; happy and confident. I didn't even want to go in to work after that kind of treatment! I wanted to just take the rest of the day off to go show off my new fabulous do & continue pampering myself- whynot! My hair experience that day served a purpose of both, outside and inside beauty fulfillment.
So hats off to Najah and her wonderful catering staff, together, their customer service and professional skills flow- ""Like The River."" :o)
Thank You Guys!
Your newest client,

Salon is awesome. great atmosphere and trying a new naturale hair style, the stylist made me feel comfortable and confindence about my decision. The style was only temporary. I wanted to give the naturale look a try. Altho i did not go back to the salon, I would recommend it to others. Finding a new hair stylist can be expensive and damaging for your hair b.c you have a lot of different people in your head. Over all Good salon

I have nothing but positive remarks for my first time experience at Like The River The Salon with Najah. I have visited several salons in GA, CA, MI, and NY. One of my pet peeves is that some salons are not very clean, the receptionist is rude, and the WHITE towels are dingy and raggedy. Not the The River...beautiful modern clean salon, professional receptionist and BLACK clean towels.
Najah, is awesome!!!!! She knows what she is doing and does is good!!!! I left the salon with a haircut that I truly love and compliments from friends and family. A couple of days later Najah followed up with a phone call asking how I was doing and if I still liked my hair. I have never had a hair stylist do a follow up with me.
I highly recommend this salon...you will not only come away with a wonderful hair style, but also a good experience with a professional. My only regret is that I have to go back to California and can't bring Najah with me to maintain my new do!!!!

LTR is a great experience and Najah is an EXCELLENT stylist. Her short cuts are exquisite! Najah is very concerned about your preferences and needs as well as helping you maintain your look in-between appointments. Everyone is pleasant and professional. I'm surprised at the negative comment regarding Terion. He has done my hair a few times and I've been very pleased. I would (and have) recommended LTR highly.
This unfortunate situation (cited in merchant539307's post) is completely related to the philosophy that helped Like The River's acknowledgement as a ""Best of Atlanta"" hair salon for 2009 by the Atlanta Tribune magazine.
We pride ourselves on providing the best service in an efficient manner, eliminating the prospect of overly lengthy time in the salon. That's achieved through not double-booking clients and clients arriving to their appointments on time.
In this case, the client called the salon five minutes AFTER the schedule appointment and was told there was a 15-minute grace period. Ultimately, the client arrived 35 minutes late, which is unacceptable. Servicing a client that late would have been unfair to the next client, who arrived on time for her appointment. It would create a chain reaction of other clients being serviced late because this client was 35-minutes late. Not fair.
We respect client's time by servicing them in a professional and timely fashion. Clients have to respect stylists' time, too, and arrive on time. No one likes to lose a client. But we will not compromise on being fair to ALL our clients for the sake of a client who knew the policy and still arrived 35 minutes late.
-- LIKE THE RIVER THE SALON
This is in response to like the river the salons response to my bad experience. Unfortunately , the first time we went to the salon our stylist was late. We had a 6am appointment in which our stylist was not there at 6am. We were asked by one of the assistants who we were waiting for and then we were told that the stylist should be there shortly. We proceeded to wait about 15 mins and then the stylist showed up. We thought that this was a little inconsiderate considering it was 6am but even though the stylist was late, we decided to stay and not pre-judge the salon.
We are very respectful of our stylists time as well as the time of other clients. We believe that an effort should have been made by our stylist and the salon to service us and not to push us off to another stylist. Our appointment was at 7am and when we called we were told that if we were there by 7:30 , we would be seen.
Like the River is a great salon and we are not taking anything away from that fact. We wish more would have been done by the salon owner to make us feel like we weren't just another ""client "". I am a business owner myself. And in my business , we make sure that all clients have a great experience no matter what. A lot of times in business as a owner you have to step up to the plate even though a client may have fell short.
All in all ,Terion is a great stylist, with a great personality. We are saddened because we really liked the salon and we thought we found a salon that we could call home.
