Established in 1937, the Georgia Department of Public Safety manages the day-to-day operations of Georgia State Patrol and other divisions. The department s motor carrier compliance division offers inspection services for commercial motor vehicles at roadsides, inspection stations and carriers' terminals, as well as assesses vehicles transporting hazardous materials. Its capitol police division investigates criminal incidents and traffic crashes, as well as conducts security assessment and surveillance detection operations. The Georgia Department of Public Safety also offers assistance with issues related to business and professional licensing. The department s officers conduct interstate and intrastate compliance reviews. It conducts safety inspection for more than 17,000 public school buses.
