After eating there once, I had a dream about the food because it was sooo good. I love getting to try so many things. I love that you can bring your own wine and not pay a corking fee. The food is excellent! Mama and Marcelo (owners) make the restaurant such a warm and pleasant place to enjoy the best Italian food in Atlanta. You would never believe how reasonable it it too!!!

?When You Come Here, You Come Home?
April 22, 2009?.ATLANTA?Nestled next to Party City and Blockbuster video sits a little slice of Italy. Enter this Italian Market by day and Restaurant by night and immediately feel as if you have been whisked away from the craziness of Buckhead.
Terracotta archways with hanging vines, bistro tables, and large glass refrigerator cases welcome you to this foreign land of gastronomical delights. Freshly-prepared items for take out, lunch and dinner daily will keep you well within your budget. However, the best dinner deal around town is to bring your own wine (no corkage fee), order your food and find a table under the Romanesque arches.
A petite Italian woman looks up and says ?Boungiorno?; a tall handsome man waves his hand and yells ?Ciao?. Mama Henrietta, who arrived in Atlanta 22-years-ago from Palermo says ?We cook here the same way we cook at home.? Her son, Marcello, who owns and operate the market says, ?When you come here, you come home.?
Specialties here are not seen anywhere else in the city: hot and mild Italian sausage flown in weekly from Brooklyn; buttery crostini -- the perfect accompaniment to their creamy hummus; pork cured with rosemary -- a must on the fresh ciabatta rolls! plus taboulli, caprese and caponnata salads. Nothing is mass produced: choose from home-made cabbage and bell peppers stuffed with recipes passed down through the ages; luscious chicken, Florentine, Bolognese, seafood or sausage lasagna; large stuffed jumbo ravioli (lobster, beef or portabella); cannelloni filled with the perfect combination of veal and beef; plus pastas dishes of every desire?may we suggest fettuccini b?chamel. Oh?and don?t forget the gelato, cookies, sorbet and famous cannoli!
While you wait for Marcello to warm and plate your choices, savor the grilled ciabatta bread with herb dipping oil while Mama Henrietta uncorks and pours your wine. As Marcello likes to say, ?You bring the wine and we?ll take care of the rest.?
Come ?home? to Buckhead Italian Market and enjoy cooking at its best during lunch or dinner at affordable prices.

I have always loved Italian food, but after we came back from 10 days in Florence, my wife and I had developed a serious addiction to Italian food. Upon landing my wife said ""I am really craving a good Canoli."" We searched for the best canoli in Atlanta, and Buckhead Italian Market and Bakery popped up.
I stopped by and met the owner, who was charming, and had a wonderful selection of Prosciutto, Soppressetta, aged provelone and fresh mozzarella, and of course, the best canoli we have had since our return. They have large deli cases of lasagna, (4 choices!) other pasta, salads and an entire case of fresh baked goods. (The venetian cookies are delicious.) I took dinner home, and a love affair was born.
Marchello and Nonna are wonderful gracious hosts, and this has become one of our favorite places to eat, even tho it is a haul from Decatur. They do not sell wine, but have glasses on hand if you want to bring your own, which we do. ( You can save a lot of money going to Greens to get a good bottle, and drinking it there.)
The food is exactly what we had become accustomed to in Italy, simple, but perfectly prepared. The deli meats are the best qulaity we have found in Atlanta, and the only stuff that tastes like what we were used to eating in Florence. This is the place to go for fantastic food in a casual atmosphere. None of the national chains can hold a candle to this place, and even the other local spots have a hard time measuring up.
The prices are really good for the quality; you could spend twice as much and not have a better meal. If you love Italian food, you owe it to yourself to visit.

What an amazing find!!! I can't believe I passed by there all these years (going to Party City) and never stopped in. But better late than never, right? I must say that I love Italian cuisine, and the food at Marcello's restaurant and deli is the best I've ever eaten. I live in mid-town and work downtown, and love it so much I drive to the market at least 2-3 times a week, either for lunch to take back to the office or to get get dinner to heat up that evening for the family. Whether it's the lasagne, penne and sausage, beans and beef lunch special, or cannolis, you can't go wrong. When I'm thinking about work and coming through the door and Marcello tells me to ""smile"" or I'll get frown lines, or when ""Mama"" says ""hello"" and takes a moment to tell me what she's cooked special for the day, or what ingredients give her beans and beef dish that extra ""something special,"" it brings a smile to my face and a respite from the crazy work day. I love their Italian cookies and specialty salami for sale in the market deli. What a wonderful place to dine in or out for lunch or dinner. It's well worth the drive from downtown.

When I first walked into the Italian Market and Bakery, I thought I'd chosen badly. I was looking for a restaurant, and this place has a definite take-out deli feel. When the food arrived, I learned what must have happened; this place may have started out as a market, but the food is so great you don't want to wait to take it home; you have to at least taste it NOW!
Lasagne, rigatoni, and other home-cooked pastas were done to perfection. The sausage and meatballs weren't my grandmother's, but they were better than in certain restaurants I could name. And the Greek and Middle Eastern dishes were just as well done -- the hummos and dolmathes were excellent.
The owners are on-site and definitely Italian; and when I asked our hostess what title of respect she would like, her answer ""Call me Mama"" ensured that I'll be back.
Buckhead is further from midtown than I usually wander, but I'll definitely be back. If I lived in the area, I'd come by once every few weeks to stock up.

Buckhead Italian Market houses the most relaxing dining environment that I have experienced in Atlanta. It is a quite sit down dinner but with the feel of a small neighborhood market (they also package and make a perfect carry-out dinner for the family and are open for lunch for a quick bite). All the food is pre-made fresh each morning and displayed in deli cases which allows you to see and choose exactly what you are in the mood for....lasagne, veggie lasagne, stuffed green peppers and cabbage rolls, penne and sausage, sausage and peppers, stuffed chicken, fantastic anti-pasta dishs with fresh deli meat like hot cappacola, salami, prosciutto accompanies with tomato and basil, taboli, grape leaves, salads...the list goes on. Top your relaxing experience down with a fantastic canoli or gelato and the meal is complete. BTW, they let you bring in your own bottle of wine, Marcello with cork it for you and serve it for no additional fee! I fell like I have my own neighborhood spot for any dining occasion. We walked out of there full of dinner & desert for under $45!!!

This is a great discovery for anyone looking for wonderful food, personal service, and a pleasant evening (or lunch!) Bring your own wine for an even more exquisite experience, but be prepared for a delectable meal. The tortellini is so good, I wiped up the sauce with bread, and wanted to lick the dish!
