No matter whether an accident involved a freshly licensed teen or an experienced driver, knowing what to do (or not do) is essential to bouncing back.
All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
It’s time to bring long sleeves and long pants out of storage, prep your home and car, and contact the cool weather home/yard contractors.
I started going to Larry Johnson's Buckhead Auto Center over a couple of years ago when I was in graduate school and on a tight budget. I needed to find a mechanic who would not overcharge me, so I did my research and read reviews for different mechanics in Atlanta. My most recent experience only affirmed my high opinion of Larry and Buckhead Auto: A tree fell on my car (crazy, I know), and I drove it to the mechanic closest to my house for fear it would not make it any farther. That mechanic gave me a quote that was well outside of my budget. I called Buckhead Auto for advice, and they gave me a much more affordable quote. I got my vehicle to Buckhead Auto, although I got lost along the way as they have moved locations. Hiram stayed on the phone with me to direct me there, and he was kind enough to come stand on Peachtree Road and wave so I would see where the new shop location was. Josh, one of the mechanics, immediately came out to asses my car and speak with me about what had happened. I spoke with Larry on the phone a few days later, and he advised me that because of the high mileage on my car, how old it was, and the damage done by the tree, that I should consider getting a new car. He of course would be happy to fix my car if that is what I wanted, but he told me if I were his niece, he would advise me to get a newer, safer car. He answered my questions, offered advice, and kept my car there for a week and half while I thought out all of my options. He could have made a lot of money off of me by fixing my car, but instead he was honest. I followed his advice, and I traded in what was left of my old for a new car. Despite the time the spent assessing my vehicle and the time he spent advising me, Larry did not charge me for anything. I feel confident and safe in my new vehicle, and I am glad I already know what mechanic I will go to with it! Larry Buckhead Auto Center is not a place where you feel pampered or get to sit in a luxury waiting area, but it is a place where you will get the best rates and will be treated with honesty. If you want an honest mechanic, go here!
We purchased a 2011 Santa Fe from Jim Ellis Hyundai and worked with Arcie Ashley. We actually enjoyed doing business with a car dealership! We found the experience to be a refreshing change from automobile purchases we’ve made in the past. The dealership was remarkably well organized, clean and customer-focused. The pricing provided was very competitive and we received no pressure follow-up to my initial inquiry. They successfully located the vehicle we were looking for and had it brought in for us, honored their "drive out" pricing, and made the entire experience hassle-free. We treated with respect. Arcie gave us a tour of their facility and introduced to some of the Service Department staff while we were there. She provided us with an excellent orientation of the features of our Santa Fe and was very thorough and informative. She went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable with the various features of the vehicle before we ever left the parking lot. Throughout the entire process Arcie represented Jim Ellis Hyundai with the utmost courtesy and professionalism. You can rest assured that we will recommend Jim Ellis Hyundai to our friends, family and co-workers when asked about our purchase experience. Arcie stated that her goal was to exceed our expectations. As far as my wife and I are concerned, that goal was met!
I have had numerous services done at this Pep Boys location and have had nothing but an amazing experience. Although I often visit Pep Boys for routine oil changes, I've also taken both a Toyota Carolla and Infiniti there for some major service work. My Carolla was leaking oil pretty badly and both the manager, Jose, and Paul, explained (in detail) what was causing the leak. I also had my Infiniti towed there after it had overheated. The next day I got a phone call about what was wrong; essentially I needed a new radiator coil. When I went in to pick up the car, they showed me the defective coil and explained why it needed to be repaired. I got a brief auto lesson and had every question thoroughly answered. Because the repair was pretty costly, they gave me a 10% off coupon which helped reduce the cost. Simply put: I highly recommend this place. The mechanics are always friendly and honest, and Jose goes out of his way to provide amazing customer service. Not knowing very much about cars, I appreciate that I can go to this Pep Boys and not have to worry about dishonest mechanics or repairs I don't need. Five stars.
When I met Ed for the first time I knew that this was finally a honest mechanic someone that I knew would be around for a very long time. Ed is knowledgeable, reputable, trustworthy, friendly and extremely NEAT!....Being a single woman and only knowing a little about cars, it is very hard to trust anyone these days. I have had mechanics test my knowledge and try to take advantage thinking I don't know anything just because...But Ed was not like that what he quoted me on the phone was what he charged, even offered to go get the parts for me and also did FOLLOW-UP calls like a doctors office, I have never had that kind of treatment before. I haven't had any problems with my car. He was very responsive, and showed up exactly when he said he would. Ed even looked at another car of mine that I am not ready to get fixed right now, but looked at the car for me anyway and told me exactly what I need to get the car back on the rode and believe me when I am ready he will be the one I will call...I HIGHY recommend ED...he is the one. This is the spot to go. I was looking for months for a doom light for my car. Certain used auto parts didn't have my car model year. I even call the dealership and they wanted to charge me $250 (FOR A DOOM LIGHT!!!!) I would rather get in my car in the dark. So eventually I got tired of doing that and looked up C&L Used Auto Parts and gave them a call. I told them what I was looking for and he told me $20 right off the top. I was thinking he didn't even look or put me on hold to check and I know i didn't want to waste gas for a blank trip if they didn't have it. I asked what time you close and went down there. Within less than 30mins the gentleman had the part that I wanted. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! I really want to commend the employees that actually go out in the yard to pull the parts. Because each one that I saw when they came in their shirts were soaked with sweat. Also the employees in the office was nice and willing to serve without hesitation. This is what I call "GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE"
Superb Windshield Repair is just that Superb! I called, got a quote for windshield repair and got a same day appointment. They repaired the chip in my windshield and did an excellent job repairing my windshield. The crack in my windshield was the size of a nickle; it was hard to get out, but the Lebron, the guy who repaired my windshield, knew what he was doing. The staff at Superb Windshield Repair were very professional and skilled. I would highly recommend them to anyone who has a crack or chipped windshield. I am very satisfied with the results. Superb Windshield is a great place to go in Atlanta and surrounding areas for quality, low cost windshield repairs. The prices start from $65. That was the lowest price I found for windshield repair in Georgia. I went to the one at 300 Galleria Pkwy because that was convenient for me, but they are mobile too. If I get another chipped windshield, I now know who to call- Superb Windshield Repair - an EXCELLENT place to go for windshield repairs!
I drove from Athens to here, in order to get my windshield repaired. The reason I drove such a long distance is that LeBron has a great reputation for fixing the cracks or chips on windshield. Unfortunately, my crack is too long (27 inches) to get repaired. So I just talked to LeBron for two hours, about the windshield repairing and his business. He is a friendly, professional, experience and trustworth guy. When I was there, he received several calls, inquiring about windshield repair. And also came a walk-in without appointment. Each time he asked questions about the crack/chip details carefully and patiently. He told me later that because some problems (like mine) could NOT be solved, so he must make sure it is repairable and did not want to waste customer's time. He would try his best to fix the problem, while guaranteeing the quality. Just be advised, if you want to go there, please call in advance to check LeBron's schedule, to make sure he is available at that time.
I totally messed up the passenger side of my 06 scion that I had JUST GOT. I was so pissed off. Stupid small grocery store parking lots. anyways, I was stressing so bad that it was going to cost so much to repair and take a lot of time. I can't afford a lot and don't have a lot of time, so i was driving around for like 4 months with a messed up car. I finally took it to Classic Collision because I saw an add and just decided to go get it over with. I don't think I can even express how relieved I was once I found out that they could have it repaired in THREE DAYS and it was only going to be $850 apprx. i THOUGHT FOR SURE it was going to be like 3k in damages. SO RELIEVED! And my car was effed up BAD, too. I got it back yesterday.... You would have never known I swiped the cement base of a light pole from front to end. hahaha. it looks AMAZING! I was so shocked. and everyone was so so nice, I just can't thank them enough. So thanks guys! hope this brings you some business! :)
This is my first experience with Classic Collision of Buckhead and I am very impressed by their services. I had small misfortune when a storage shelf collapsed in my garage and landed on the hood on my Mercedes GL450. I took the car to about 6 different body shops ranging from very high end ones to more down to earth ones. What made me go to Classic Collision was a recommendation from my neighbor whose kid is a little more than accident prone.I was very impressed with my adviser's customer oriented attitude. As a matter of fact every person whom I encountered at the shop was very nice and willing to go an extra mile to accommodate my requests. This is something that you don't find very often these days. The place was very competitive on price and saved me some cash. I picked up my car today and it looks spectacular. I highly recommend Classic Collision of Buckhead to anyone who is looking for honest auto body business with down to earth prices. A+ business all the way!
I needed an upper oxygen sensor for my Nissan Altima. Mr. Cunningham explained what an oxygen sensor was and fixed it. After starting the car it would barely move. He found that several things could be causing it. He explained the possible causes, until he found out the one that was causing the problem and fixed it. I thought I needed a tune-up, but I needed an oil change and oil filter. During the oil change, he noticed that I need a gasket for for my transmission pan. When he rotated the tires, he noticed a studs had been damaged and I need a new one and a lug nut for it. Overall, I’d Say that Mr. Cunningham is a great mechanic for the simple reason that: He loves what he does, he’s good at it, and he wants his customers to know what he's doing to their vehicles. His prices are really reasonable too. Will I utilize his services again, ABSOLUTELY! Will I recommend him to others? YES! I already have. Thanks Mr. C. Margaret M. Atlanta, GA
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
