I just had the best service and food of any place in Athens GA. at the Waffle House on Barnett Shoals! Ricky the cook is truly an artist and the food was superb and Connor our server was attentive with an attitude of pleasing and very gracious!!! I will certainly go back frequently but may call to make sure these two fine gentleman are working before I go. Excellent job gentlemen!!!! CC
LOUSY service or lack thereof. We arrived past midnight and the place had 3 booths/tables occupied -- not busy at all. After being seated we waited 15 minutes to have our order taken but nobody would come to our table. I was trying to wave down a server but she would not establish eye contact and pretended not to hear me. Got the same response from a second server. LOUSY service. Don't waste your time here. We just left and enjoyed 24-hr McDonald's.
I went into The Waffle House on tonight 5/5/16 and to have dinner. There were lots of people in there. This one lady was sitting alone and I went in and sat in the booth behind her. The wattress came and said that she would be back to take my order. She brought me utensils and a coke. I continue to sit and the lady behind me asked had I received my food and I told her no hell she never came back to take my order. The lady quoted what??? I replied no and she ask do you want me to get her because she's just washing dishes and I told the lady no that's alright because I was just going to leave because I'm not going to pay and wait all night to receive grits and toast. There were others white people sitting waiting on a table. She was trying to get them somewhere to sit instead of taking my order. It was a racial thing. I am going to call fox 5 and talk with me a attorney because I was refuse to be serve.
Eastern fusion meets the South! We pleasantly stumbled upon this place on a busy Saturday night during high school prom season and luckily scored a table in the bar. Even though it was packed, the service was great and there was no attitude from the staff about having our kids with us. (It's a bit fancy for most kids, but my kids are adventurous eaters.)You must try the fried chevre, which is a mix of goat cheese and cream cheese with a touch of mango, lightly breaded and fried. Served with toast points and basil-poblano dressing. So good, though a bit pricey at $10 a pop.I had the special that night - sheephead fish grilled and served over lightly battered veggie patties and topped with greens. It really was exquisite in looks and in taste. My kids had gourmet versions of ramen and grilled cheese, classic comfort food done up in an arty way for the grownups. I would definitely recommend bringing out of town guest, especially your parents if your a UGA student.
