Pregnancies can be deemed high risk for a number of reasons, including gestational diabetes, hypertension, obesity, advanced age and carrying multiples. Our team provides extra care and monitoring, scheduling more prenatal appointments to ensure a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

The team at Athens ObGyn believes the first-rate facilities at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center and St. Mary’s Hospital are important patient resources. Both hospitals offer free tours for women who are going to give birth and have neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Pregnant women can also take parenting, breastfeeding and childbirth classes.

Screening for potential health conditions is another component of preventive care. Our physicians perform Pap smears and HPV testing to screen for cervical cancer. Our Athens ObGyns also recommend screening mammograms every year for women ages 40 and over. We offer 3D mammograms in our office, which provide improved screening for women with dense breasts and increased detection of certain breast cancers. We also offer BRCA genetic screening for women with certain risk factors.

When patients need surgery, our physicians direct them to either Piedmont Athens Regional or St. Mary’s Health Care System. Our highly trained and skilled physicians perform minimally invasive surgery at both of these facilities.
Robotic Surgery
During their lifetime, most women experience a health issue that involves gynecology, whether it’s problems with periods or hot flashes during menopause. Our knowledgeable physicians provide patients with the latest information and the most up-to-date diagnostic procedures and treatments for a variety of gynecological issues. If a woman requires surgery, our Athens ObGyns perform state-of-the-art minimally invasive and robotic surgery for many conditions.
Endometrial Ablation
In-office surgery. Patients who require certain surgeries, including hysteroscopy, dilation and curettage (D&C), loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) and endometrial ablation, can take advantage of our in-office surgery setting, allowing them to have a procedure, recover in the care of our staff and go home on the same day.
