Horrible service, took 6 visits and an angry phone call over a 4 month period to retrieve a leather briefcase repair,,owner is a pathological liar, excuse after excuse, all of which were confirmed to be lies. Finally I created a scene in front of other customers ( not my nature) to finally persuade the lying owner to get my $20 job done. GO ELSEWHERE!
They had 2 pair of my shoes for 4 months. Every few weeks they would give me a new date to pick them up. Every time I would come in, they couldn't find them [even with the ticket stub]. Finally, after 4 months I told them I was coming to get them on a particular date and time. When I got there, I waited 10 minutes for them to find them. And they still weren't fixed.

I received a pair of shoes for a Christmas gift. I received a 10 1/2 wide and needed a 10 1/2 regular. I asked the person that had given me the gift where they purchased them so I could exchange them and they said Discount Shoes. I them proceeded to try to exchange them and was told that I could not EXCHANGE them without a receipt. I explained to them that the I would not be able to get a receipt and was told that the policy requires a receipt...NO EXCEPTIONS. They also told me that if the person that had given me the shoes did not have a receipt, they could give me a copy of their credit card statement as proof of sale as well. Like that would happen. I will NEVER purchase shoes from this store again.Do your self a favor and buy elsewhere where you have piece of mind that you can return them if needed.
Payless needs to update it's website because if there was a store in Asheville Mall it closed. I know because I walked the entire mall twice looking for it.
I agree with some about the not-so-discounted prices, but the store is HUGE and there are so many styles and brands to look at. I called today looking for a brand of work shoe , and the woman who answered the phone was not only polite, but she even checked the men's department for me before she gave me my answer. That was more than I asked for. Go check them out!

Pretty good prices for shoes, but I NEVER find anything I really like. Guess that's just me.
I agree with other posts that shoes are only slightly discounted. However, my biggest concern is Mr. Randy Owens, the very rude, disrespectful owner. Sadly, we left the shoes we came for, and with the intentions to never give our business there again. I would be happy to spend double the price to be treated humanly.
I wish I could give them a 0. Overpriced and horrible staff. So incredibly rude and unhelpful. Rather sit on their phones and talk to each other and ignore customers. Especially rude to children and women. I've never felt welcome in this store and will never return after my last visit there on 9/30. Steer very clear of the old tall black bald guy. I don't know who owns this store but they should really rethink their entire staff. I tell everyone I know to never go into this store and will continue to do so.
