Dental Examination
Radiographs are essential tools to identify decay and other dental problems that the naked eye cannot see. Accurate clinical diagnosis and treatment cannot be safely provided without current radiographs. New patients often have current radiographs from their previous dentist. We gladly accept those records to be used for the comprehensive exam instead of taking new ones and the fee is adjusted accordingly.

Teeth Cleaning
This question will vary patient to patient. If you have a minimal history of decay/fillings, we usually recommend every 6 months. Patients with gum disease or with a high decay/plaque rate should come more frequently, either every 3 or 4 months depending on the severity of the disease. Many studies show a strong correlation between dental cleanings and prevention of heart disease and stroke.
Fluoride Treatment
If you use a mirror to look far into your mouth on your molars and premolars, you will notice that the surface of our teeth have grooves that often go inward toward the center of our teeth. These large grooves create small crevices that can easily trap plaque and bacteria, making it easy for cavities to form. While it can be difficult to see, these grooves can be tiny, which make it hard for the bristles of our toothbrush to get to and scrub away before tartar forms. Once plaque and tartar sit for too long, the acid will start to form cavities on the enamel of your teeth. If patients have particularly weak enamel, they can opt for fluoride rinses or fluoride treatments at the dentist office to try and remineralize and strengthen the enamel on their teeth. However, sometimes our teeth need an extra set of protective barriers. By using sealants, patients fill in the grooves and create a smooth surface that provides an extra layer of protection against bacteria.

Every day our teeth face cavity-causing bacteria every minute. Sealants are placed on top of chewing services to help provide an extra layer of protection between bacteria & our tooth enamel.

Fillings
At Zöe Dental, we aim to stay up to date with the latest technology and updated products to benefit you and your dental health. That being said, long gone are the days of silver amalgam fillings as many dentists have found a more appealing option cosmetically and in regards to your overall health.
Resin Composite

Veneers

First, we carefully remove all the infection from the root of the tooth. The next step is to seal and cover the tooth with a dental crown. Sealing the tooth protects it from further infection and breakdown.
Bridges
The Astra Tech Implant System is versatile; it can be used to replace one tooth or used in multiple sites to support a dental bridge. It also supports full dentures and partial dentures, and attachments are interchangeable.

Root Canal Treatment
Today root canals are much less painful and simple than the days when the only solution was to pull the infected tooth. We use an advanced method that assures root canals are as comfortable and accurate as possible.

Deep Cleaning
The primary purpose of nonsurgical periodontal therapy is to treat periodontal disease, by carefully removing bacteria and other toxins from under the gums and root surfaces. Healthy gum tissue should securely fit around each tooth. However, in the case of periodontal disease, bacteria from plaque buildup can spread underneath the gums, damaging the gum tissue and causing pockets to form between the tissue and the tooth. If you display signs of aggressive gum disease, including severe bacteria and tartar buildup and formation of deep pockets, scaling and root planning is most likely the first procedure your dental care provider will use as part of the initial therapy.

Dentures

Dr. Van-Wagenen chose to further her education by completing a residency program at East Carolina University’s Advanced Education in General Dentistry, located in Sylva, NC. This program allowed her to expand her skills in all aspects of general dentistry, including but not limited to, dental implants, crown and bridge, root canal treatment, extractions, and pre-prosthetic surgery.
Gum Surgery
The SIROLaser™ tissue laser is the tool we use for minor gum surgery. Using the laser eliminates the placement of stitches after surgery. The laser also means less discomfort and provides more rapid healing than traditional techniques.
