Average. Decided to give this place a try on our trip to Asheville, after reading the top restaurants from online. The decor was mediocre. Quaint, but nice. The hostess was friendly and greeted us warmly. There were two other couples in the restaruant on the Wednesday night we arrived, and rightfully so we were seated immediately. The server approached our table to greet us, and then stated she was going to grab menus and silverware (remember, only two other couples in the restaurant) which took well over five minutes because we noticed her having an informal conversation with the hostess...what ever could they have been talking about? The beer and wine selection were both adequate and to our liking. We started with the Calamria for an appetizer, and I would have to agree with the previous persons review about over-breading and lack of taste. Our entrees, (pollo piccatta alla veneziana , pollo saltimbocca, capelli d'angelo pasta) were reasonably priced, but lacked flavor and were served luke warm. None of the entrees were anything that we hadn't experienced elsewhere and with better results. We did not stay for dessert. The best part of the evening was the guitar player, "Mark", who did a great job of setting the mood with nice renditions of James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, Jim Croce, and others. Again, an average night, but umfortunately not one that we will repeat.
I have been eating at the Bistro 1896 for about 10 years and in my opinion, it consistantly has the best food and the best service. The help is always friendly and the food is excellent. I love to take my friends to 1/2 price wine day on Tuesdays. And I like that I can get a balanced/beautiful meal at lunch for a great price. I also like the fact that if I just feel like having a piece of chicken added to my meal, or I ask them not to make things spicey or spicier, they accommodate me without question. I have heard people ordering who have a special diet for things like diabetes and there is never a question--they will do what you ask. That seems to be a rare thing with some restaurants who just want to do it their way and seem to forget that customer service is what it is all about. I rate the Bistro 1896 with 5 stars, Exceptional! Sandy McCall, Southern Life Realty
We enjoyed the Piano player he did a great job. The service was poor, we mentioned it was warm and ask if the air conditioning was broke, the waiter said he had opened the front door so people walking by could hear the music, he admited it was warm in the restruant but didn't close the door for it to cool off. I ordered a shrimp and scallop dish in vodka sauce got very few shrimp and scallops in it. I did like that you could order a smaller portion which my mom did but then she only got one shrimp and one scallop in her meal. We did enjoy our evening there but the service could have been alot better, they took good care of us but the attitude was so poor it just didn't make you feel good. The food was gfood but I've had much better and thats dissapointing since I had heard wonderful reviews about it. I doubt if we will ever go back there. I will go to Olive Garden first.
I was here for lunch with three co-workers (first time eating here for all of us); and, we all Loved our meals. I had the pulled pork sandwich with slaw on it and a side of fries; and, I topped it with the Eastern BBQ sauce. Wonderful tasting pork, and not dry or fatty. The fries were excellent...I do not like "raw" fries, and these were perfect. Service was prompt. We were out of there in an hour, and that includes the time we sat with a signed check on the table just gabbing; so, it was not an hour of order-eat-check please time. A co-worker ordered the brisket sandwich, and she raved; and another raved over the mac and cheese side he had...we were all commenting on the good food as we left the place. I give it four stars only because I wish for less mayo in the slaw, and a vinegar slaw would be great. I will be bringing my family here.
My kids LOVE this place and so do I. Reminds me of the old days of getting a slice of greasy New York pizza in the little dives we would visit with family. The atmosphere is very relaxed but you won't find a posh setting. The building was a garage at one point and so it still carries a garage feel to it (but in a good way!). Menu wise you can find anything to please the pickiest of eaters. You can purchase anything by the pie or the slice. Price wise, it's fairly affordable. I have picky eaters so we get very basic pizza slices for them. Once you get into adding toppings is where you can rack up a nice charge. Because of that, my husband didn't feel it was really a good deal. But since he is the only one who insists on 4 or 5 different toppings, we still feel like it's worth it.
okay so i know this place is WONDERFUL but today i got some pizza delivered to where i work, now i let this fly by the 1st time but today was just out right disrespectful, i paid on my card and after signing everything writing in a tip, i hand it over to the delivery guy, as soon as he had it in his hands, he opened to see how much i had left him and then out loud said "YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME 3$" Now 3$ seems like a good tip to me, THE 1ST time he came even tho i was going to give him a tip HE JUST STOOD THERE EXPECTING IT AND WOULD NOT LEAVE until we handed him a tip,,,, NOW IS THIS A WAY TO DELIVER PIZZA?????
Wow was delivery fast and the food was surprising good. I've had Domino's in the past and never been too fond of it, but their prices were better than the others in the area, so I decided to try them again. They definitely updated their recipes so that they pizza is more tasty and they have a really cool feature if you place your order online - you track it each step of the way. They delivered in under 30 mins to the Days Inn and our order was correct and the food was good.
I am a fast food kind of person and Lou's is my favorite here in Asheville. I wasso happy when Lou's opened because i was tired of McDonalds so Lou's was the perfect thing to come to this part of town. I have read on other web sites that Lou's wasent the best. WHY went through my mind what is there not good it has brought good food to Leisester so i am giving you my opinion DONT listen to those and give Lou's a shot you will love it.
My wife and I were traveling thru Asheville and discovered this place searching for a Pizza Hut. The pizza is great, large amounts of toppings, and the service was equally as good. Nice family atmosphere with a small arcade. The staff was very polite and welcomed us as we entered the door. Looking forward to our next trip to Asheville and to Frank's... Pleased we missed Pizza Hut:)
When I get a craving for some great lip-smacking Ribs this is where I (and many others) go! This is an unassuming, very casual place with friendly staff and picnic table seating - but worth the trip and lines. I love the dry salt & pepper rub with a sweet tomato sauce on the side to dip and the brown sugar wet ribs. And don't forget the corn pudding and other sides. Yum!
