My mother wanted to go to the Choctaw Nation Nursing Home. So I placed her there. She had Parkinsons and a artificial valve in her heart to remedy the effects of a prolapsed mitral valve.
I received a call from a nurse at the nursing home saying mother was very disoriented and that another staff person had a "magic" solution for her problem. I stated that I was/am a clinical social worker and that my mother did not require psychotropic drugs. I then stated that I would talk to the person that the nurse on the phone was referencing about the "drug." The drug was then administered, without my permission - turns out it was not majic at all, just thorizine (which I was very familiar with and would not have approved of for her, EVER)!!! Long story short, my mother died because her delirium was caused by an absence of red blood cells. Mechanical valve patients require periodic blood transfusions. So, all I can say for the Choctaw Nation, is that they killed my mother. It is all the Tribe has every done for anyone in my family except for basic clinic services. If you need a nursing home, I would recommend the Antlers Nursing Home. My brother is doing very well there. The building is old but the staff is dedicated and have long-term relationships with the patients.
