Overall

My wife and I purchased a house, which had an existing fireplace that was not functional. We really wanted to get the fireplace in working condition as a traditional wood burning fireplace but the chimney needed serious work, including a partial demo/rebuild of the brick chimney. After getting in-house estimates from other companies, the shock of expensive estimates had made us give up on the idea.

Then we tried A-1 High Hat Chimney Sweeps. Jim Rosinbum came to our house and did a thorough inspection. He listened to our "wants", explained what would need to be done, and laid out a plan of action. In short order, we received an estimate. We were very pleased to see that A1 was the most affordable.

As Jim began his work, we could tell immediately that he is very meticulous and skilled. He was respectful of the intricate brick patterns on our historic house as he rebuilt the chimney. When we threw a curveball at him in the middle of the job (we wanted to exhaust our water heater through a secondary flue) he adapted and made it happen.

I have to make note, that Jim is a one-man crew. There may be some of his competition that can get the job done faster with a large crew (and for more money). However, we found that Jim's attention to detail and pride in his work are well worth the extra time it took. Jim's wife Sue, who does the behind the scenes work, was a pleasure to work with along the way with estimates, payments, and questions.

That's to A-1 High Hat, we are spending this winter by the cozy fire. We recommend them to everyone we know, and will certainly be using them for future sweeps and maintenance.
