The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services provides individualized care and treatment to youths who have violated the law or who are a danger to themselves or others. It strives to help young people with the involvement of their families reach their full potential as the productive and positive members of the society. The department coordinates with other state agencies, including the Department of Education, Department of Human Resources and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, as well as local agencies to work with young people and their families. The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services conducts a variety of community-based programs for at-risk youths that includes individual and family counseling and advocacy. It supports a speaker s bureau that addresses issues related to gang awareness and substance abuse and delinquency. Established in 1966, the department maintains an office in Annapolis, Md.
