Michigan Headache & Neurological Institute

I came to MHNI 30 years ago with migraines. No local doctor could help, so one referred me to MHNI. I spent one day at the clinic with Dr. Saper and his staff. In this visit he diagnosed, treated and freed me of headaches for 30 years! Last year I had a different type of headache: cervicogenic. I came back and worked with Drs. Weintraub and Dr. Moheyuddin. After a facet block (minor out patient procedure) and some meds in a few months and a few revisits, I was headache free AGAIN! To say these people are miracle workers is no exaggeration. They gave me my active life back TWO TIMES. I wrote this review, because I am so grateful and I would like you to help as many people as you can.

This entire experience has been amazing. All my procedures all went extremely well, and Dr Shamas was so good. He was so personable and explained all the procedures to me. He asked personable questions as well, making me feel more comfortable with him. Dr. Saper and Dr Weintraub were two of the best physicians I have ever worked with. It has given me so much hope and the inpatient program worked out my most important issues and I am comfortable going home and continuing as an out patient. This has exceeded all my expectations. I have to acknowledge the amazing nurses. They were all so compassionate and caring. I have never experienced this level of empathy and dedication before. I will truly miss them when I leave.

The stafff was wonderful during my stay. They treated me like family and are so caring. The treatments have been successful so far as well. I cannot wait to continue this journey and hopefully be completely cured one day soon! I would highly recommend them if you are struggling with head pain.

Dr. Kariyanna was very understanding about my needle aversion and I appreciate that. I am very glad that all my doctors at MHNI have been careful to know about and work around all of my health issues.

He is very knowledgeable and answered my most of the questions. his diagnoses was accurate. My headache problem was going on for my most of the life and is significantly controlled. I am very satisfied.

Dr. Saper and his clinical team truly have helped me get my life back in all aspects. This is the first time I have had control of my headaches since they started daily 6 years ago. He was very informative on plans of care and treatments. Daily rounds with him and his team were very effective for communication and I felt that my questions were addressed fully. He really took into account my opinions on what was being done including medications and procedures, and I feel comfortable with being discharged tomorrow. He also has great stories that are enjoyable during rounds and help lighten the mood. Absolutely wonderful experience overall! The hospital floor was quiet, allowed a lot of independence, and I slept well most of the time. I found the self-care classes helpful and it was good to talk to other patients who have gone down the same path as you.

It did not take much time to get an appointment. Once I made it to MHNI, the experience was great, very thorough, and I was transitioned into inpatient treatment within 24 hours. During my inpatient stay, I felt the doctors and staff kept updated on my daily status and were proactive in getting procedures scheduled and creative in their use of medication, implementing some meds that have a dual purpose (i.e., treat insomnia and headache). I am very grateful for the expertise and understanding of the staff.

I feel that Dr Saper truly wants to help me get better. I have so much respect for his commitment to headache patients. He treated me with respect and sympathy.

Perceptive, listener, synthesizes information and offers extremely productive feedback. Provided me with a greater understanding of my pain and, best of all, a remedy for the pain. Freedom from daily Head pain will broaden my horizons and allow greater normalcy to my days and nights. .

Dr. Saper, Dr. Tariq and the team were very good, patient and professional providing many different options for treatment and care. There was only one Doctor and nurse that could have better bedside manner but the experience was one of a kind. I would absolutely recommend this hospital and treatment team to everyone.

Super informative though you have to be sure to ask questions. He really tries to explain why things were happening.

I found the staff to be very caring and understanding, Dr, Saper instilled confidence in me and will not give up on me, as other neurologists have. One nurse in particular, Kerry, was very warm and helpful.

Dr. Saper and his team ran numerous tests to get at the root of my headaches. They are all very caring and concerned about getting at the cause of the problem rather than just treating symptoms.

Great experience, always willing to take the time to listen to your questions and finding answers, this has been true blessing in my life since the headaches have started.

I have had migraines since I was 8. I am now 54. When I arrived at MHNI, my quality of life was awful. I suffered daily with head and neck pain. I had not worked in a year. Family and friends tried to understand, but grew short on patience and understanding. I felt lonely and abandoned - until I came here. The time and focus devoted to my conditions were above and beyond my expectations. The nursing staff were knowledgeable and nurturing. They not only addressed my medical issues, but took time to talk through career and lifestyle changes. They ALL deserve Daisy Awards! JerriLynn (tech) is an angel and an asset to this team. Gayle Antonelli, PA was on top of everything - so personable, smart and helpful. Dr. Saper is a gift from heaven. I am so thankful he chose to dedicate his career/life to this debilitating and overlooked chronic condition. He really 'GETS IT!' My life has changed. I now feel hopeful instead of hopeless. Dr. Saper should 'franchise' this program. It would do well in Fairfield County, CT. I would be first in line to attend - and work there, too! The staff at MNHI has always been so caring and thoughtful. My chronic daily headaches and migraines have made remarkable improvements since my closed head injury over 20 years ago!

staff does a nice job of listening and works well to help patients understand purpose of approach when trying new scripts. nurse line very helpful,.

They take the time to understand each person's problem. I feel that they really care to make you pain free.
